This is the most pathetic gem Arthur has ever had the displeasure of meeting! Sure, they've represented him before and done... a fairly good job... it /did/ save him from the prosecution when he blew up that old robonoid by mistake and nearly shattered a whole batch of quartz... but still! So annoying! Somebody oughta knock some damn sense into the rainbowvomit bastard...
The doctor has been let into his closest fold of trusted gems and for good reason. He is likely the most entertaining and intriguing creature Lox has ever the pleasure of meeting... and saving. Lox stole this gem from the choping block due to their aligning values. Now the doctor takes down everything there is to know on his psyche. To watch him scramble and light up at the mere mention of something horrifying Loxocemus has done... like his own personal jester, it never fails to bring a smile to the emerald's face. He enjoys their sessions as much as he enjoys watching his pearl during them. And of course, he lets him sit in on his experiments. It would seem the only freedom Andries isn't allowed is to be alone with Archie.
Dr. Wezel finds Lox to be the most thrilling subject he could've ended up with. Fucked up and insane in the head with a corrupted Nephrite hanging off of his shoulder-- not to mention the Pearls he keeps around! It's a treasure trove of subjects to research and study with VERY little limits. No ethics guidelines, either! He's so pleased with his situation that he doesn't even pay any mind to the obvious threat that Lox is to him and everyone else. Just as long as he keeps himself behaved around the corruption, he's right as rain and free as can be. What more could a downright insane scientist need?
One of his few surviving /favorite/ pilots Pericles proves very useful in spite of his defects. As nothing more than a pearl-keeper, though. Lox tosses his pearls into the ship of this gem more often now that Archie is around, rougher and rougher as his mood worsens. Sometimes he looks at Pericles and wonders if he only really keeps him around to watch his fear grow and his vision worsen. The truth is, Loxocemus is aware of /something/ between Archie and Pericles, something that drove Archie towards his late wife. Lox now grins at the idea of such long punishment. What more humiliating than keeping pearls who can barely keep themselves upright? Stars, he sees the way his pearl lights up at the idea of Pericles. What beautiful and ultimate punishment it will be when he sends him his shards....
Awful news being that Pericles doesn't fear Lox. Smart enough to be cautious? Sure. But he'll not shy away from the man unless one of his awful, awful snakes are hissing. Out of all the Nephrite that remain, it's Pericles with the most strength left... supposedly. Most of it is posturing and some of it is the burning hatred that's slowly, surely forming the more and more he watches Aventus suffer at the hands of Loxocemus and his immature lashings out. His awful experimentation as if he were a toddler shoving all their toys together and seeing what colour they're left with. He finds himself seething with his anger. So appalled that a man could hurt so much and yet still act like he's capable of love. Pericles truly, honestly believes that Loxocemus is a monster beyond redemption and that all gems should get as FAR away from him as they can.
Oh... Pericles is just too sweet... Aventus wants nothing more in the world than to take him as a lover and run far, far away. He's coded to love the man they both must be wary of and is cursed to love the only thing allowed to lead him away from that monster's presence... it isn't fair, not to Pericles. Aventus tries not to let his affections bleed through too much because if Pericles knew the depth of his longing he's sure they'd both die fleeing this fate. Instead, Aventus will keep to himself until he dies as lonely as he lived.
It's begun to hurt, watching Aventus suffering. While this started out as nothing but busywork, he's quickly grown attached to the Pearl, wanting to make him smile, laugh. To see him finally relax. Pericles tries his hardest not to let it show, but he finds himself less and less willing to let Aventus go back to his owner, wanting desperately to TAKE him. He knows that'd just hurt the Pearl, though--- instead, he waits for the request that'll never come. Those words he desperately wants to hear from Aventus, asking him sweetly to take him away so they can move on from this awful place... He knows he can't do anything, as much as he shoves those thoughts from his mind. Heartbreak is just around the corner and he feels it.
Nothing but a pathetic obstacle, at first. Lox didn't care that his beloved nephrite was seeking brief flings elsewhere... well, he did, but that hardly mattered when Tallulah came. Love and marriage and foolishness, her whole court was poisoned with it. And she managed to get her filthy slurry of temptation down Alcibiades' throat. Was it any wonder he swore to take her life in exchange? Any wonder he ensured her last words were nothing but agony as she swore her undying affections for HIS nephrite? Any wonder he twisted her body to something unlovable in the name of his eternal allegiance for the man who wore her matching ring? Any wonder her ghost still haunts him from the rotting now-organic-tainted-corpse he keeps by his bedside...?
Tallulah wasn't nearly as dense as her husband. Knew better than to trust the Emerald... but, as a Morganite, she was foolish. Believed herself safe enough from the way Leviticus would look at her. The PURE hatred in his gaze didn't shake her, the way he hung around Archie like a shadow didn't even bother her-- Archies love was hers and hers alone, never did she doubt his affections. It was foolish... SHE was a fool. All the way up until her passing. How soft a word for something so cruel... If Archie knew the EXTENT of which she suffered, he'd never forgive Lox.
Abel is wary enough of the Emerald to keep his wits about him but he's not afraid. Far from it. General Loxocemus is not too dissimilar to the Sapphire himself. Ambitious, egotistical, and a bit murderous; it's no wonder Abel and him get along better than most. That's not to say they're the BEST of friends, no. They just somehow manage to be a functional pair. Far better than the destructive they could be-- the destructive most would ASSUME them to be. Abel finds the Emeralds plight to be amusing and even HE doesn't know how it'll end. What better a show for a Sapphire than one he could not possibly predict the ending to? He considers Lox to be a tentative friend, if not just a source of entertainment.
Abel is something of a friend to the emerald. Not many can handle the strain of tiptoe-ing around Lox's insanity, but Abel seems to do it well enough. Well enough to keep the general entertained, of course. He indulges Lox just enough not to deter him, and what more can a lonely, ancient emerald want from a fresh new sapphire who collects such pretty things? Sure, they've awoken in the same bed a few times now and then but their hearts both belong to other men, and, for the time being, they seem to be the most stable and /normal/ relationship Loxocemus has ever had. Friends with benefits.
Leviticus---- /Loxocemus./ A name unfamiliar to his tongue that nonetheless carries the same feelings. Confusing feelings, that is. His life fell apart after the death of his wife, exacerbated by Lox leaving him behind as he supposedly dropped off the face of the court. Archie wasn't invited. Confusion as to why, he doesn't like to think about it. Deciding to keep his mouth shut and his attention on his current survival, he reasons that if Lox wanted him, he'd of said so. No use arguing, right? He's a partially corrupted, mentally damaged Nephrite. Far cheaper is it to replace him than it is to invest in his repair... He only wishes that it didn't hurt so bad.
Alcibiades. There is no-one in the world more important than his nephrite. His. For years, thousands of years Loxocemus has bided his time yearning to take him as more than just a lover, but to keep, closer than even humanely possible. From the moment Archie emerged, Lox followed his every movement, every breath, every step, but now, his prize is finally set just before him. And he will take it by any means necessary. Many have tried to warn him. More have died trying. Some may call it obsession but Lox truly believes it is nothing short of true love.
He doesn't quite know why Vilkas fears him so much, nor why he fears Lox so much. They all know the Emerald, don't they? He's not nice but he's never been cruel-- Not to him, at least. He assumes the same goes for Vilkas. The man followed willingly after all, didn't he? That thought alone sours his relation to the Nephrite a bit on top of what's already there. Archie isn't jealous-- so he says-- he's just... disappointed. He was left behind, assuming Vilkas was asked to go. All to be afraid? What for? He doesn't want to know the answer, doesn't want to repair whatever friendship they may have had. He's afraid to discover the why, even despite the many, many questions he's still got about it all.
Vilkas too was once close with this gem, but was forced apart from him when he followed Loxocemus. He was Vilkas's confidant, the one he trusted with every detail and secret and whispered word. But now.... Vilkas fears Alcibiades. It's almost as if Circe took with her any ounce of bravery he had left. Knowing how close he is with the General is more than terrifying, and being so acutely aware of Lox's misdeeds that he has witnessed them firsthand? Surely Alcibiades has, too. And if he doesn't know what horrors Lox is capable of by now, he is a fool. It is better to assume he does and justify his own terror.
He often wonders why things went the way they did. Looking at Circe makes him relive the moments, anxiety welling in his chest that he can't ever abandon or put aside. She herself is a cruel reminder of what they all went through, even if that's not quite true. While he doesn't blame her, and most likely never will, he still finds it difficult to reconcile the way he feels about the event and her appearance. The two closely intertwined together in his mind. He tries to keep his avoidance of her subtle but it's often anything but. He hates himself for the way he feels-- something he can say about quite a lot, recently.
Alcibiades is nothing more than a former ally, now. Once upon a time they were close, when Alcibiades was not shadowed by a beast of loathing. Circe cannot shake the cold of that shadow, nor the heat of his rage, and was sworn long, long ago to never be near enough to feel that pain again. She values his dedication, and has always looked to him as a superior example of their cut, persisting with his wounds... but even when they are assigned the same directive she cannot help but shiver when he takes a step close enough to her. What if Loxocemus is around the corner, anticipating every word from her mouth....?
Archie truly, honestly, /really,/ hates Silas. Not murderously, no, but it's close. An extreme dislike of the rainbow vomit looking gentleman, he tries to keep his distance. Especially considering the butterfly's obsession! Archie is a solitary man, keeping almost entirely to himself, working nonstop. He doesn't need any admirers watching him from afar or thirsting after him up close...
Oh, Archie... he's beautiful. Silas can't take his eyes off this gorgeous gem. He spends many a night fantasizing about Archie whisking him far, far away from the reflective rabble, returning him to his prism and making hot, sweet... dinner. To share at a picnic. Naked....
Cain is as fond of Kenan as he is of Abel. Kenan being the one who actually did take him from Marcello, he owes the lapis a debt of misplaced gratitude. His eyes often turn to Kenan seeking his approval in equal measure, and he would do anything to please him, including wait on him hand and foot like any pearl should. Is this love? If it isn't, no other feeling has a right to be so strong.
I don't have fancy words. I never did. I'm.. not sure what to say here. What do gems normally say? He's, um. Really pretty. When Abel told me he foresaw owning Cain, I just thought.. How lucky. He's so lucky. I rarely care for the gems he ends up owning but Cain is.. Um. Can I leave now?
______________________________________________________________________
It's difficult to actually know what Kenan thinks exactly, unless he says it himself. Rarely does he feel like he can really express himself, though, both with the pressure of living up to Abel's expectations, and with the fact that it's not exactly common that anyone cares for what he of all gems has to say. Not that he's very good at expressing himself in the first place. His looks never say much about how he might feel, and it's no different in Cain's case either. You would never be able to guess how much care there is in his little gem heart for the pearl. He's even a bit jealous that Cain even matches Abel in name.. Not that he would ever /dare/ voice that.
Abel got Cain because he liked the way the Pearl looked. Simple as that. He pointed and Kenan made it happen, as the Lapis often does. Truly though, he does find himself feeling /something/ for the Pearl... but it's not love. Sure, he gives gifts out to his favourite possessions and he occasionally graces them with attention when he believes that the time calls for it or when he's in the mood but so rarely does he actually, genuinely mean it. Cain is just one of the prettier things he uses to adorn himself, a distraction. Occasionally he'll find himself speaking, only to realize it's to an empty room. Cain, Kenan, any other gem might be there but they aren't truly /there./ His relationship with Cain is as empty as his affectionate words are.
His captor, and his savior. Cain owes this sort of freedom he enjoys to Abel- which, isn't much, but it's more than he had serving Marcello. Constantly vying for his approval and his eye it is becoming harder and harder to keep Abel's attention. Someone else clearly has his focus... but for now, no matter, as he still claims scraps of affection left in the wake. After all, who wouldn't care for someone as shiny as Cain?
It's a concerning case, these two. With Marcello, he finds himself irrationally pissed off, murderous even. Far more than he'd normally be about any other gem. Not even when his possessions are shared does he feel as mad as he does around the Zircon. More in tune with the way he feels, he knows it's because he actually longs for MORE than what he gets. No more at peace and himself does he feel than the quiet after the nights they spend together. Longs for far more than angry clawing and cruel words; Possessive, he knows he wants the Zircon in his lap more than any Pearl, more than even the finest gem in his collection. He finds his gaze wandering, the urge to brand his name on Marcellos skin, carve his mark into the mans gem itself. Far too destructive for his own good, it's anyone's guess how long they'll last before Abel's jealousy gets the best of them /and/ the gems around them.
Marcello cannot place his feelings on this sapphire. While he feigns nothing but loathing, he cannot help but lay alone day and night thinking about they could be. Most times he lashes at Abel he ends up waking beside him, and the mixed feelings grow terribly more imposing every passing moment. He's convinced, at least, that Abel really wants nothing to do with him, which he'll cling to for the rest of time if it means he can deny he wants to lock them both in his room and never look at another gem again.
Bunny had thought little of her assignment when she first came to be, ready to wait hand and foot on a lapis to entertain at will. And yet, nothing. A few performances, maybe three or four over the first few decades, but he seems to have been pushed from Julien's mind. Bunny tries not to mind. She makes fun where she can, anyways! Thats what spinels are for! Luckily, there's another lapis who seems to want his company far more, and she's always here....
Julien has pretty much forgotten about Bunny. It's not that she's a bad Spinel, it's that Julien is a brat who needs something new to play with every few days. He enjoyed his entertainment for a time, but now he ignores him. Such little attention has lead him not to notice Bunny's friendship with Sylvie.
Despite Julien's dislike of gems outside of his court, there's something about Marcello that pulls him in over and over again. He only sees Marcello in intervals, inviting him to the Paragon Palace every once and a while. It must be done on his terms, or not at all. While Marcello isn't his only toy, he is definitely his favorite by far.
Julien is just a treat. Like a gaudy dessert, he can only be enjoyed every once in a while to fully appreciate the richness. That's how Marcello sees him, anyways. Rarely do they see each other, with Marcello being on court duty and all, but when they do, the rake of a zircon does what he does best. Of all the gems he's pulled this one seems to be the most beautiful, so... best not to ask another bite until that gorgeous lapis puts the fork in his ready hand, lest he be met with an already empty plate.
In his fitful sleep, the world crumbling beneath his fingers, inching ever closer to his destiny, she is there. Watching. His skin burns and his vision blurs, ever crawling, his hands almost upon the grave. Flames lick his flesh, he cannot still his heart. He will complete his purpose. He will resurrect him. The silhouette of some abandoned god will not steer him away. If this divine visitor was worth any of his mind, would they not help? Night after night they watch him burn, hands far too unsteady to grip the chalice. This will not slip through his fingers. Not now. He would sooner give his life for the ritual, let this damning mortal body rot away.
Jericho, for the most part, keeps his interactions with the fellow staff brief. Perhaps a quick greeting here and there is all he really offers. Becoming somewhat of a professor did call for a closer studying of subjects he might be asked a question or two over... he began to frequent the library when he had the time. He couldn't help that over time- perhaps the slow wear of years on his attitude- Vera would become a friend. Having so often come across each other, how could Jericho not admit enjoying his company? His recommendations are always right on the nose, he isn't too loud, he cares about the books. There aren't many things at Garreg Mach that bring a smile to his lips, but... admittedly... finding Vera asleep in a new spot of the cozy library never fails to do so, and he doesn't mind picking up a few fallen books here and there. Perhaps in gratitude for his companionship if nothing else.
Jericho is a great reader, so Vera never minds his presence! Jericho always returns his loans with great care, which Vera appreciates immensely. It's nice to be around someone with similar ideals. Jeri seemed reluctant to interact with Vera at first, which he didn't mind - It's the books that people should be there for anyways. Now, though, things seem a little bit different. Sometimes they chat, and on occasion Vera awakens to find Jericho working on little things around the library. Veritas knows the truth! Even though you act cold, you're soft at heart. Maybe someday Vera will go down to help organize the Abyssal library! Though he doesn't know if they have a librarian already or not... It might be more of an imposition than a help... Either way, someday he intends to repay the favors he's been given.
Vanore was the first student under him who made him... consider things. He observes her now and then, wondering what drives her, what makes it so worth it. Whatever the case may be, he senses their dedication. He offers help where he can. After all, if one is so dedicated to making this sickly dungeon of a home a better place, why should he not do what he can? A blossoming mind, a strong will, should always be supported.
