For me, I take photos when I see things that interest me when I'm out and about, and mix it with photography i see on tumblr/pinterest (though  i try to stay off of socials these days). I have a long, long backlog of design inspo this way ^^ 

I sketch a lot of designs in batches (10-20) when I have a day where i feel inspired, and usually only finish about half of those that i think are best. Those are worked on over the following weeks, bit by bit.

i open up for offers every few weeks via bulletins! usually on fridays thru sunday :)

I have a set of colors I really enjoy working with:

I'm going to be honest, a lot of my design colors start with some combination of these. Then I'll add other colors I think would go well - usually I try to keep pretty limited on the main palette and choose one or two small accent colors. I think most artists have some colors they especially enjoy working with, so I'd say lean into that and really explore those colors.

If I know I'm going for a completely different color scheme before I start, I like to prep another palette of colors on the canvas and tweak them until it's a good starting point.  

And once I've got a better idea of what I want an individual design to look like, I'll mess around with curve settings + hue/saturation/brightness to find what I like the most.

I've been meaning to make a bulletin about this!! I'm super okay with it, even flattered, when it comes to general style/proportions/themes/etc. ^__^ 

As long as it's not a direct copy of a design I sold to someone (I don't think it's fair to the buyer in that case).

Aw man no worries I always like talking art!! (and this is something I've been meaning to make a bulletin about soon anyways!)

In procreate, which is where I sketch out most of my designs first, I like using the built in water pen brush and the sketching pencils!
I do tweak these from time to time so they're not quite the original settings. But I always recommend making duplicates of brushes to change the settings up anyways!! You can really make some neat and unique effects.

When I'm on PC, I use Clip Studio Paint. My favorite brush that I use for almost anything is the Woody Pencil - it's a free custom brush (which you can find in the clip asset store) made by Rompi. If you just search "woody pencil" it should be the first one that shows up ^__^
I also really like the gouache brush that comes with CSP for mixing colors.
