"Why are the authorities just letting kids walk around doing these things? Oh wait, I am 'authorities.' This girl belongs in a therapy facility. We all do, but her especially. Is it not, like, super weird that the hired killer is the one who's saying this? Anyone?"
Haven't we bitten off more than we can chew? As a maid, I've been trained to accomplish the job no matter the task, and yet facing a killer such as her strikes me as suicidal. Yet if it's what milord wishes, I will throw my life away to the she-devil.
"Uooh, look at what those despicable humans have done now... this innocent, wayward sprout, how he has been led astray...! What lies did they whisper in your ear, little one...? You must realize, their cakes and water may taste sweet but 'tis merely an easier way to hide their arsenic! Don't worry, big sister will help you see the light of their dastardly ways! Observe this pamphlet! Once you have absorbed all of its arcane secrets and darke artes, surely you will come to understand the truth!"
...I want to be mad, but shit's just sad. Nah wait, dejecting, yeah that's better. Living in Basierra must be tough huh? Everyone's so miserable and dirt poor that it ends up creating a whacko like her. Least she has King looking out for her now. I'll bring some cake next time for everyone.
"There is nothing about this woman that is not despicable... the theft of the moniker 'demon,' which is already heinous. The plastering of my kin's visage across her wretched flesh like it is nothing more but a decoration. I see that she even wears open shoes so that she might revel in the flesh and suffering of my companions between her toes. I wish to see her gone."
.Such arrogance. I suppose she gets it from her skill with the blade. 'Twould almost be praiseworthy, if she were not a bloated delusional fool. Cultural appropriation in this age is truly revolting. Romeo forbade me from it, but surely her life doesn't count as taking a humans?...So it does? Tch. Should the day ever come, I will gladly take this pretender's life.
"M-my King, it is Ramiel! My name is RA-MI-EL! I have no desire for a uselessly girly and human slave name like thaaaat! B-besides, a demon such as myself can easily last indefinitely without food or water! Save it for our less able-bodied brothers and sisters. As long as a single demon lives under vile human subjugation, this blade of yours will never dull!"
Hey, Lumina, you've been eating well? We don't have a lot of food, so you have to eat up when you can. Yeah, we can give that food to others if you rely on your magic to keep going, but it's not healthy to rely on it like that. Even if you are a Demon, don't push yourself when you don't need to. You're my right-hand, not to mention one of my prized citizens, so it'd be a problem if you didn't take care of yourself and got sick. Or were you waiting for me so we could eat together?
“She’s kinda scary, and makes me feel weird...”
This one is a freebie! I almost feel bad for eating her up! Almost.
"U-uh... She's like, a creepy criminal who has probably done worse than get handsy. I'm glad Stella is still in here with me, because I think she would have eaten me right up otherwise. Goes to show that I still have a lot to learn about piloting this body.”
“Oh? This guy, isn’t he just the most delectable morsel? The food is delicious but the presentation is ugly - come now sweetie, why not shed those outer layers and come play with me?”
"Isn't she just super gross and like, the worst? I disinfect any machine that she's got her grubby mitts on, but I can't get rid of her permanently. It's frustrating. I should build an AI that can trawl social media pages and protect vulnerable accounts from her."
"God, I hate that hypocritical ugly bitch. She's like a buzzing fly in my ear that won't quit. So you’ve saved one or two pieces of garbage that will continue to leech off society until they try to kill themselves again. What a big hero you are! Almost makes up for all the children you helped Daddy slaughter, right?"
“He’s got an irreplaceable skill set and the stuff he makes terrifies me in terms of how different they are in temperament from the creator. And he’ll get moody and weird for a month after designing some sort of crazy self-driving car. He doesn’t make any sense at all, but I’m glad he’s on our side. Though I wish he'd get my name right... is it a power dynamic thing?"
"Steven's got a good heart and quite the mind for analysis. I do think he'd make an excellent student if he ever decided to stray from the path of organized crime."
"I cannot deny his genius and contributions to society. These are objective facts. I, however, cannot deny my deep dislike of this man and his utter lack of self-awareness or responsibility. There's a cloud of privilege he walks on due to his intelligence that affords him the joy of throwing things away when he feels the slightest desire, with no regards to how it may affect others. It is grotesque."
"It's funny, she's so emotionless but I think she hates me because she grew attached to an old thing I made, and she took it personally when I expressed my regrets regarding it. I do understand that doesn't make a good first impression and it's a shame we met that way. She's so brilliant and I'd love to have her in my lab, or even have the chance to talk more."
"Ah, this is my... creator, right? Talking with him feels like admitting I'm not human... at all. So it feels kind of... bad."
"A self-hating android consisting of low quality parts in denial about being an android after not realizing it for fifteen years? It's rather embarrassing."
"I figured a strange person would be the one behind such a strange set of circumstances. To be honest I'm not a huge fan of the guy who basically killed me, but I can't afford to think about things like that if he can help Stella. Though, can I really depend on him...? He’s looking at me like I’m a freak of nature.”
"It's like when a potato in your cabinet starts to sprout after you left it alone for too long. I suppose the form that 773 took is more appealing than a poisonous potato plant?"
“Ah~ Professor, Professor, did you bite your tongue? There’s no way my darling Professor would call me pitiful, right~? But, I’ll forgive you if you promise to take me out on a date next day you’re off♡“
“I hear that the barely functional prototype of 5T3-774 was able to quarantine her within seconds so that’s rather pitiful. I do appreciate how she says things that nobody else would say and her nature as spontaneously formed from thought and desire. The complexity of emotion is something I’d like to gain proficiency in. I do not appreciate her harassing my assistants and setting back projects, however.”
“Reggie is kind of like, one of those prehistoric fish that you try really hard to keep alive in captivity because you know if you released it into the wild it would die because of modern day conditions...or something like that, haha. He’s surprisingly easy to manipulate if you know which buttons to press, so it’s for the best that we keep him safely locked away in some university lab to make stuff to his heart’s content. For both him and society as a whole!”
"He is someone who inspires me like Calliope inspired Homer. What a unique, incandescent existence he is. Every interaction and thing I learn is another page in a horribly engrossing novel. I'm grateful I was able to meet someone like that. It's so very fun."
“The Professor is a brilliant mind and it is a privilege to work alongside him! He does have some odd tendencies, but that’s the nature of genius: you’re understood by few.”
“Aurelie is a lovely, vibrant kid with lots of energy. She works hard and I do think she’ll do something completely game-changing if she keeps at it. I hope she remembers me when she’s famous.”
"A nine-tailed fox is super OP! Having something like this in your inventory is cheating! That girl never ceases to surprise me, haha!"
"In this one's eyes, he is an odious and duplicitous salesman. Spreading his influence as insidiously as kudzu spreading its roots deep and swallowing everything whole... but. So long as milord finds his continued presence beneficial, I will continue to tolerate him. I will keep a cautious eye, however..."
Russet dismissed Sterling at first, but now she views him as someone so close to her he may as well be an extension of herself. She likes how easily he reads her and never misunderstands her. Apart from her grandmother, he’s one of the only few who can get past her walls and reduce her to a fully affectionate, kitten-like state.
"Apparently Russet is considered intimidating and hard to read, so I've heard. She's one of the most expressive and open people I've ever met so it's befuddling. People are thick like that, though. There's nobody else I'd prefer as a partner."
“But the last person who relied solely on your ‘household management’ was defeated and killed. By us.”
...
“Ah. It looks like I’ve offended him again, so I’ll have to handle my own dinner for the next few days. While he’s a pain sometimes, he’s incredibly reliable. I'm glad he's on our side."
“He is the head of milord’s household, as well as every operation with her name on it. This one cannot find any fault in his work, but as someone with experience in running a household smoothly for centuries, would I not be better suited for the position? As a fellow servant, this one shall not speak further, but he wears his heart on his sleeve for somebody who accuses others of ulterior motives.”
Russet thinks Minato sounds very polite and refined, but in actually says the rudest and most heinous things (a perfect diagnosis).
While he gets on her nerves when his enormous pride flares up, generally she thinks he’s pretty funny and useful. She often has to play liaison between Minato and (whoever he is currently feuding with) when Ariel isn’t around.
“Ah, milord’s other retainer. This one doubts the need for her to put herself in danger, but alas there are some spaces where I cannot accompany milord, so she says. But, does she understand that I can easily toss aside this form for a woman’s, as well? Nevertheless, Russet-dono is appropriately deferent to this one and so working with her is the easiest.”
“Minato might rival Cerule in terms of passive-aggressiveness, haha... but don’t tell him that! He’ll just get weirder and more servile, the angrier he is at me. There’s no need to feel indebted to us for his freedom, rather without his presence I’d be dead or one of the Duke’s slaves, as well. But maybe the butler persona has become something of a coping method for him over the years? And, well, no girl would complain at a handsome fox-man serving her a full breakfast in bed every morning! So as long as he’s doing what makes him happy.”
“This annoying, spoiled, loud brat is my great-great-whatever aunt? What a joke!”
“This annoying, violent, crass brat is my generational senior? What a joke!”
“I’ve never seen Greed frown as much as when she’s around. I guess that means he cares, in a way. I’d prefer to avoid her irregardless; she’s far too noisy and annoying for my tastes.”
"I've nothing to say about her because we don't talk. She exists.”
“Ah, Auri, isn’t it fine if my tie is two degrees off center? And while it’s not particularly healthy, it is more convenient and easy to get takeout during late nights at my office... it does make me super happy to have you visit with a delicious home-cooked meal, though. I’m truly blessed to have such a thoughtful and sweet daughter!”
"Utterly deplorable! Look at the state of your shirt! If not for the structure that caring for a ward such as myself provides, I am certain he would end up living in his own filth and only eating take-out. He's the adult, but I'm the one who can't leave him alone!"
"I never thought I'd be a mother. Well, I wanted to have kids, but now that it's happened, it's kind of surreal, you know? I'm sorry that I can't see her grow up, but I know Cerule will show her the love of a parent."
"She is approaching pseudo-legendary status in my household, with what feels like the ability to make it rain gold on alternate Wednesdays. Truthfully, I don't feel much towards a mother I never knew, nor do I find myself craving maternal affection. And the stories are getting tiresome, to be frank."
“My feelings are complicated. She’s booksmart, but she’s kind of a train wreck too. She sticks her foot in her mouth on the best of days, and can’t make any other friends. And yet, I’ve been in love with her for as long as I can remember. Ahh... I can't believe I just said that...!"
“Elvira is annoying sometimes, sure, but she’s the greatest friend a girl could ask for. Anyone who would begin to assert otherwise needs their head checked!”
"Who isn't interested? Hers is an existence doomed to be snuffed out by her own father, lest she grow so monstrous she snuffs the rest of us out. She's like a corpse flower that blooms once in a million years; it's exceptional to see such a deep witch lineage."
"I'm sure he's an important guy, but he's more interested in kissing up to me, a total stranger, than getting to know his own daughter. I don't like that."
