"This one will never understand, but milord has claimed this scoundrel as one of ours. Why she has deemed him out of all his peers worthy of life after burying all the others - such reasoning eludes even those who have survived on this earth for over a millennium. Perhaps his knowledge of mythology is deep, but it is not worth the endless impropriety and blatant disrespect. This one would like nothing more than to alter his form so the exterior matches the interior, but milord has expressly forbidden me from turning him into an insect. How tragic, for that vulgar violet shade would surely look less garish as a carapace. Should the lout show any signs of treachery, this one will be ready to retaliate by a hundredfold, but alas... milord is perhaps too adept at choosing allies."
Wow, being a full-blown Kitsune and /still/ losing to a bunch of kids is pretty impressive. Not to mention going into servitude for them, maybe he just has a thing for bondage play and slavery? Hahaha, I'm only joking, I would never disrespect such an awe-aspiring being~. I'm satisfied with our relationship, it's like one of those office dramas I've started gaining interest in. They always have those two coworkers that hate each other and try to sabotage the other, but in truth they're actually best friends and just playing pranks. We're prooooo~bably just like that.
"Patrizio... does he know how much stress he adds onto my day? Does he ever think about that before causing an international incident or unleashing some centuries-old curse or making a stupid bet with a deity... actually, is it okay to call someone like this an ally? I feel a tension headache coming on just thinking about it. Is he trying to say he wants to spend more time as a group together? Dinner, a movie, hiking... there's so many other better, harmless activities we could do. Maybe I should just start preemptively sending Ariel over to save myself grief. Or Minato."
Hahahaha, my apologies, I was just remembering the last mess Sterling had to clean up for me. Did you know cursed video tapes are a thing now? Really, I was quite surprised, I can hardly understand this "video" technology, but to think curses had advanced enough to affect them as well. Needless to say, it put a rather big damper on our movie night. Ah, and the time before that, when we went on a camping trip, and the site happened to be next to the shrine of a long-deceased god, who's rage from humans forgetting him started to affect the lay of the land. Oh now that I think about, before even that when I took everyone out to eat, and the sushi place was /actually/ housing a rather massive smuggling op that was exporting Mermaid flesh, and the order was mixed up so we ended up eating it. Except the smugglers were being scammed, and it was /actually/ sea hag flesh, and so we all got violently sick for the next week. Ahahaha, rather fun times, those. Honestly, where would we be without our beloved Sterling? We'd surely be hopelessly lost in this storm we call life. Though, it does make me wonder, just why did all those things happen when all I wanted was to share some joy with my comrades?
Russet thinks Patrizio is pretty funny. She finds that he is abrasively obnoxious with one hand and subtly thoughtful with the other. She appreciates that. Even though she's much shorter, she wants to pat him on the head. However, she lacks patience for any archaic views and self-destructive tendencies he may still hold onto after all this time. She thinks she can literally wrestle these habits out of him so she keeps an eagle-eye out for signs of them. It shows that she cares, though. Or, she's pissed.
When I think of Russet, I'm reminded of Hans Christian Andersen's, "The Little Mermaid." If you added more of a bombastic twist, that is. I can only hope she doesn't end up as sea-foam, hahaha! She's, hmmm, how do I put this? If I'm putting it in my own period's words, she's incredibly crass and wholly unbefitting of calling herself a woman, and if I'm putting it in this period's words... Gorilla, might be the term? Perhaps "Brawny" is the better term? I'm still quite unfamiliar with modern vernacular, so do pardon any errors on my part. Ah, not that I find these traits of her troublesome or negative, on the contrary, I think it's quite charming! It's a very unique form of self-expression that I find rather refreshing, it makes communicating with her a joy I could keep at all day. Ah, but there is one gripe, I still have trouble between reading whether she's amused or angered, and most often than not I find it's "angered" in my presence. I wonder why that is...?
"Oh, Patrizio! I wasn't too sure about him at first. Can you blame me, though? We got played for fools and he made out like a bandit in the end! Though, I'm exaggerating; we weren't played so much as we were fine at the end. Sure, he looks like a stock image of a mafioso. And he's got a rather unwholesome air about him. And his pranks sometimes... often, go too far. But still, he stuck around and helped his people transition to the modern world when nobody would blame him for leaving everything behind. He's even saved our skins a few times. What's the saying, again? 'When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time!' So I trust Patrizio. And I really, really hope I'm right to trust him! There's some things you go through with people so that you can't help but like them afterwards, and it means a lot that he's stuck around when it counts."
Do you know where the name Ariel comes from? It's the name of an Angel from Hebrew origin, meaning "The Lion of God." They often get mixed up with an angel of a similar name, Uriel, but I digress. At first glance this name might seem unfitting from a damsel as beautiful as herself, but then you have to wonder, just how did that girl end up in her position? Angels, something often associated with kindness, warmth, love, light, justice, but most tend to forget their origins. A "Lion of God," something with the ferocity to hunt down its prey, hailed as the king of the jungle. An Angel who beckons forth for to her followers with her light, and a lion that mercilessly tears apart its enemies. Don't you think it's a rather fitting name?...Hahaha, I'm only joking, I've had far too much to drink if I've rambled this long! Ariel's a wonderful character, without her I and everyone else under me would still be trapped in that bore of a loop. I owe her much for finally allowing us to try out these modern wonders, all this "Wii-fii" and "streaming," it's all quite a blast! I do worry for her mental well-being, it isn't easy being a leader, especially under these circumstances. I hope she knows if it ever starts to trouble her, she can come to me for advice. I have decades of experience over her after all, hahaha. Besides, isn't that what friends are for?
"Yuuya's a good boy! But, doesn't he have too little regard for his own wellbeing? Ahaha, I know that's rich coming from me. If he could meet my younger self, I'd never live it down! Maybe that's what makes him my son, though? Nee-chan left the emotional matters of Yuuya's childhood up to me. Even strong and emotionally resilient people have problems, too! If he doesn't have enough concern for himself, that's what his moms are for. I wish Yukina could see what a great guy her son grew up to be! I like to think that she's watching over all of us, ehe."
"Ma is the best! She's exactly what I picture a superhero to be like! She feels so safe. As a kid, she was the only person I could touch without my condition kicking in. I've always felt comfortable telling her anything. Whenever she smiles, I feel like I don't have anything to worry about anymore. I want to be just like that, one day."
"To be frank, I was quite worried about raising a cursed baby who we stole from a rival clan. While Shuuka is good with children, I did not consider either of us parent material. It is fortunate that Yuuya grew up so splendidly, but I would say it was more luck and Yuuya's good nature than it was any effort on my part. I'm very grateful I had the opportunity to raise Yuuya. As a parent, I ought to give everything I can to my child, but I feel like I've gained a lot more than I've given up over the years. How odd."
"Mom's awesome. Her cooking's the best. Between running the shop, taking care of the house, and feeding everyone, I really don't know how she gets it all done in one day. Her smile is so pretty, too! But she's shy around strangers, so you'll just have to take my word for it. My favorite thing about her? No matter what problems I had as a kid, she always took me seriously. She'd always have a handy spell, anecdote, or encyclopedia entry and she'd try her best to help. I didn't think much about it growing up, but now that I'm older, I'm finally realizing how amazing that is."
"Ah, I definitely feel for Miss Xian. She's lived a harder life than most, and I'm glad that she has a second chance to make up for things she never got to have. She's a lovely person, so I'm glad that it was her, of all people. But... she's a supernatural. If she ever reverts to her original self, or if she hurts a civilian, I'll be the one to put her down. It's not that I'm doubting her character or anything! Just... this is what it means to be an exorcist, you know. It's not something I can ignore."
"Hmm... it's selfish, but I think Yuuya is the best when he's not worrying about other people's problems, when he just lets himself live in the moment. He worries too much. I don't think you should be too upset about things that you can't change, and focus more so on the things that you can. But, Yuuya can't see it that way. He's too kind. I don't like to see him suffering, but I don't dislike that part of him, either. I hope I can help alleviate some of those feelings as his friend."
"Elvira is like... a secret monster! What I mean is, she's an uncanny genius when it comes to understanding other's hearts. If you told me she was the Buddha in a past life, I'd believe you! She's simply the best. If there's something bothering me, Elvira cuts right to the heart of the issue and I end up feeling better, like clockwork. It's like, quality over quantity with her words. She's definitely magical, yep, yep."
"To call Yuuya a fool would be redundant. He evokes the imagery of a skydancer, those inflatable characters you oft find advertising in front of low-class establishments. Gaudy, distracting, tacky... need I go on? If it falls over due to wind or some other external force, it never stays down for long, popping back up with the same insipidly cheerful, slack-jawed expression. Yes, it’s a perfect comparison.”
"You know the saying, 'the prettiest rose has the sharpest thorns?' Well, on most days Aurelie is nothing but thorns, pointy and prickly. Underneath those thorns is the smartest girl in the world! But, you know... ouch. Luckily, she's got lil' ol' me to stop her before she takes things too far. I doubt she sees it that way though, haha! But, seriously... even though I said all that just now, I don't want you to think she's a bad girl or anything. She speaks about helping others like it's a foregone conclusion, like there's no reality where she'd do anything /but/. That kind of confidence, I'd give anything to have even half of it."
Today’s tea is as impeccable as ever, my dear Lars. Thank you. However, I simply can’t forget the taste of that elvish honey we sampled with tea the other day. Was it not simply delectable? Hmm, why are you putting on your coat? There is no need to obtain some at this instant, you silly man. Fufu, I’m quite pleased that you would go to such lengths, though. How the stray I’ve taken in has become such an excellent, eager attendant. Why not sit down and enjoy a cup with me? You work far too hard, so allow me to pamper you for once. Plus... I want to pat your ears! The fluffiness really soothes the soul! They’re not ears at all? Wro-ng! Now, please do lower your head!
Owner feeds me, provides me a roof, and gives me a purpose. It's ideal, working and living with someone as elegant and driven as her. She's taught me much, and I fear that even serving in this lifetime will not be enough to repay her for all that she's done. I have much to thank her for, and so little time to show her my gratitude. Truly, how regretful. However, and I am loathe to admit this, I do have one complaint. Owner is a... lonely person. She has trouble building proper connections, and I fear I'm her only true companion. How will she ever find a compatible partner and find true happiness? And the people she does choose to connect with, such as that charlatan and his dopey son, are... less than ideal. What does she see in that rabble? I'm afraid this alone is the one point of owner I'll never understand.
“Cakes Man, I require five of your most potent Cakes and Brews! The Sorcerer of the Arcane Midnighte Shadows was quite enamored by my offering of the chocolatey one you provided me upon my previous raid- er, no, not that one, the one with the sparkly pink bits on the edges, yes, that one! Cakes Man, for your service to demonkind, you and your kin shall be granted clemency when the new regime reclaims the realm from its human usurpers!"
“Wow, your vocabulary is really good, Miss Ramiel. I don’t quite understand what you’re talking about, but I’m happy you and your friend enjoyed my chocolate-raspberry gateau. Maybe a coffee cream cake too this time? I also have a butter lemon cake that just came out of the oven, please take some of that once it finishes cooling.”
“Vincent and his sister, they’re both good kids with good hearts. I say that, but we’re about the same age, aren’t we? Haha, they just both give off that feeling of earnestness that’s quite refreshing. I’m sure he’s been touched by divinity or something, if he can make pastries that delectable. I can’t help but think about how much Ariel would adore everything in this shop. One day, if it all works out, I’d like to bring her here and watch her gain around ten pounds in a sitting.”
“Everyone speaks as if Miss Professor Homewrecker is an upstanding adult, but I know the truth! Yes, yes, she’s the type of twisted pervert who bullies innocent demons for her own sadistic pleasure... tying heavy stones to their backs and forcing them to wash her underwear... don’t worry Papa, I’ll save you and put an end to her tyranny!”
“This kid says a lot of wild shit, but that’s what kids do I suppose. At least she seems energetic and healthy.”
