Life update + purge

Posted 7 months, 12 days ago by FuuMiku

This bulletin as been a long time coming, I’ve literally wanted to make it for months oops. But hey, Dungeon Meshi aka my favorite manga ended like a week ago and it’s time.
I’m going to go over many things that have happened since my last bulletin a year ago and talk about the changes I’m wanting for the future, oh and of course boosting my always active character purge. I want to downsize!! Please!! We reached the 666 characters milestone just a bit ago haha. So yeah, this bulletin is gonna be huge, I’ll spoiler things to keep it organized and split it in three parts!

Health update:

Tldr: I’m doing better but there’s still long to go. I still have energy issues but I’m overall kinda normal now? Maybe? Anyways yay!!

It’s been a bit more than a year since I got diagnosed with coeliac disease & I’m recovering from it slowly but surely! I don’t even nap most days anymore ✌️🌟 For those who don’t know coeliac disease means gluten kills me slowly, almost put me in my death bed with how bad my body got. I’m still generally at an energy and motivation low but I’m leagues better than I was last year, leagues. From a person I met irl’s experiences with the disease, I expect my intestines to be fully healed up in like 2 years, but idk about permanent issues/aftereffects I may have gotten. I thought I might have gotten some brain damage but maybe not, idk it helps that I don’t get brainfog much more. I need to undergo a biopsy :( I don’t want to and it’s gonna take a while to set up an appointment for, but I really should. Other than that, well, I’ve grown very used to my new lifestyle and know what to expect and what to avoid, but since I live with others that eat gluten I still 100% get cross contamination sometimes, I dunno how bad it is, but yeah there are still steps I should do to be safer like getting my own dishes :/

Career update:

Tldr: I’m out of college and trying to freelance becoming a mangaka. Very scary but very exciting. I’ll be posting them online when they’re finished!

Soo I was studying in an arts & letters program in college and I graduated last semester. Our big graduates final project was to make an art project of our choice and I jumped on the opportunity of making it a oneshot comic. It’s 11 pages but I still need to make the cover for it and the first page, which was for setting up the environment so it got cut for time in the production because of deadlines. Oh and I’d like to make little extras for it too. It was a huge milestone for me and I’m proud of it! Even if it’s a lil wonky haha. It was in an exhibition for our graduates class so that was pretty cool too~ There was a mini exhibition for stand alone artworks in another room but I don’t have a pic of that on hand whoops

Before I can post my oneshot online though I need to get a scanner that works. My fam had a printer-scanner but it’s awful. After a fight to the death between it & myself, it was officially declared dead. We also have an old scanner but it’s so old that there are no compatible drivers to be able to actually use it with our computers, sooo I’ve sent a message to the company who’s trying to figure something out but we don’t have much hopes. So yeah I’ll have to get a new scanner soon most likely.

But being real here for a sec, becoming a comic/manga artist & writer has always been my dream. I’ve thought about doing animation or becoming an art teacher and such but I keep going back to this. And with mangas becoming more and more popular in my province there’s actually a push for people here to look into it as a career! I’m extremely grateful and excited for this possible opportunity. It’s not like I have a contract already or anything though, the general journey to become a manga is messy and freelance, so now I’m focusing on finishing oneshots and entering oneshot contests and building up a portfolio + possible publishable stuff before I make contact with a publishing house. Most publishing houses in french are in France though so that prob won’t help either. I’m really bad at organization so I haven’t finished any other oneshot yet, even if I’ve finished a script and know what my next one after that will be. But yes, my plan had already been to take a break from education because of my health anyways, so I’m trying this out! I’m still a cashier + a painting workshop for kids host/teacher on the side though. Ah yes, and I’m thinking of maybe opening commissions again! They’re a nice break from doing comic work, Ild be upping my prices a lot though. Comment if you’d be interested and how much you’d pay for for a certain format and style~!

I’ll be posting my finished mangas on a few websites like Tapas and Mangadraft, and I’ll for sure be making bulletins every time a new one comes out! I’ll most likely upload stories as a character profile on here but I won’t host the actual pages on it. I hope you guys will be looking forward to it as much as me :)

Here are some pics of zines and books for school that I designed and made + some projects! On the right is the oneshot I’ve finished already, though I might try to touch it up digitally. Don’t mind the white spot on the back of my Scratch Your Brain zine, an exhibition worker tore it a bit :’) Also blacked out the part that had my irl name

Career update p2 tldr: I need to stop spending so much time on here to focus on work.

On the flipside: I’ll try to move away from spending so much time on ocs & Toyhouse so I can start posting mangas and comics actually no joke for realsies. I want to become less active in the oc community. Want is a very important word because even if I put in actual efforts to stay away this’ll be HARD for me, ocs are my top hobby and I’m like a barnacle on this site’s hull. But I want to downsize, for one, and I wants to buy less too. I want to make less oc art so I can make more story art. I want to stop checking for notifications every 10 minutes and focus on what matters. I love the community, but goddammit I need to go less in the forums as well. So yeah! Oh also, I’d been focusing on fanart a bit last year and now oc art has taken over again, but I’m still planning to do a fair share of both even as I focus on mangas. But yeah! If you see me being online too much on here you have the right to shame me for it and tell me to go back to work 👋

Character purge:

All my trade details are here like always, but yeah I really want to downsize :’)  You can offer on anyone that isn’t tagged "nfo", but I only actively want characters tagged eo and uft rehomed (that are linked through the other link). Mostly looking for art! But I’ll consider characters, money & vouchers as well or whatever.
You can also ask for these for free, preferably as a WTA and I’ll def consider. There’s no limit but I reserve the right to not give ‘em away, a few in there are still tentative to me.

I’ll try and reply to everyone but I can be indecisive! Feel free to poke me again about it if it’s been a while and I haven’t replied if you want.

Misc: No one has favorited Micha yet and I do not understand it, give him some love if you think he’s cool 🥰 Latest artwork under spoiler because I’m proud of it and it took me SO LONG, cw male nipples

(Also very exciting to hear about the career details 👀 I believe in you)

Congrats on graduation and the exhibit! The sneak peaks of the comic look awesome, I can't wait to see them :D

(Also I found out I can't have gluten about a year ago as well, and it's such an adjustment so I'm glad you're feeling better this year!)

Hey, good to see you again! I'm sorry about the rough time you've had since that change to your lifestyle, but I'm glad things are better-- MUCH better now that you have a better grasp on it AND graduated!!

The art in those pics look FANTASTIC! I'm excited to see what you make!
