sorry for the poll but i'm curious as to other peoples opinions/thoughts when they find their characters in other people's 'dreamies/dream designs' folders?
i think i'm still undecided on my opinion currently, i'm flattered/happy that others like my characters as much as i do, but it also makes me slightly uncomfortable i think
would love to hear your comments if you feel like sharing ~

yeah that makes sense! as long as they're being nice it can be a good thing ; v ;

so far i've been very lucky and haven't had anything too bad!

I actually would love it if it ever happened!! It would make me feel like I can actually do character design lol

aw, yes i can see that being a nice thing! ; v ;

I personally don't mind having my characters in a dreamie/dream design folder, so long as I'm not getting constantly asked if a character is for trade/sale because of it!

Like I personally have one on DA, but it's really just there as a guide to what kind of designs I like! To be honest, I should probably rename that folder to "designs I like" rather than "dream designs", even if some of them are dreamies of mine (I'd never go and harrass someone for the designs though! That's just rude!)

yeah that's my only worry with them i suppose, but i've only experienced it a little bit so it's not been too bad luckily!

on TH i just fave characters i like and don't have any separate folders for them, on dA though since i fave both characters and art i have a folder called 'amazing designs' just for easier sorting purposes but it's in no way a wishlist/dreamies folder, like others have mentioned in other comments it's mainly just to look back on and see my kind of design aesthetic/designs i lean towards for reference?
but yes i'd never harass anyone or bug them about the designs as they all have good homes ~

Mmm I got some designs that are in people's dreamy folders and such but tbh I don't really mind? Like, it's flattering and I'm glad people like my ocs, as long as no one harasses me trying to trade/purchase them.
I myself have a folder I place designs I find particularly appealing or that I want to keep track of (as in, seeing new art or stories because I love the characters, not to purchase since they're likely never going to be resold or if they do, are going to be way out of my budget haha) and this folder helps me a lot when I want some vibe inspiration so I can see stuff I like.
As long as people making the dreamy lists are aware that some designs will never be available, for me it's all gucci.

yes i think these are my feelings also?
and the conept of having the folders to keep track of designs you like to look back on and see new art of is such a nice approach, i like this purpose for them!
luckily most people seem to be aware of what you mention, i just hope it stays that way i suppose

I like when people like my characters that much!

If they are not like harassing me trying to resell or trade my character I really don't mind

yes, i think it's a nice feeling to see them in there!
it's the potential harassment part that scares me about them i think

I don't think is something You need to be scared!

You can always do bewares and all of that and you Will always have support ^^

i wondered if people felt this way too, so tysm for sharing your thoughts!
i've related somewhat to the 'pressure to consider rehoming them' part, especially when i see the same character added into multiple people's wishlist/dreamie folders.
it makes me worry that maybe i'm not good enough to own them and others are trying to show they'll take more care of them then me i suppose?

yes i have no issues with people favouriting my characters at all and that makes me really happy, it was just the concept of the folders that left me a little uncomfortable.
i've seen some people's 'wishlist' folders just full of UFT/S characters and these i have no issues with either, i feel maybe these are the kinds of characters that should be added to them rather than those that have no mention of being UFT/S like you mention.

My characters have never been in a 'dreamies/dream designs' folders, so I don't really mind lol

I also think it mostly depends on the person how to take it, like I would be flattered if it happened, but if someone just starts harassing me to sell them, then that's a big NO

yes i agree! it can be flattering to know others like your designs too, but the potential harassment is always a concern sadly ; n ;

speaking as someone who has a lot of ocs and also has a folder for these sort of designs, i dont personally mind

but i can definitely understand why it would make someone uncomfortable!

the reason i do it is because i like being able to look at characters i like and check up on them (not necessarily just to stalk and see if they're for sale -- i also just like to see if the owner has gotten more art of them!). i also like to look at my folder of designs as a reference to see what im looking for in a design, that way i can make the perfect one for myself without outright copying a design XD it helps to save them for customs too! i gave a whole sta.sh file to my custom-maker to use as reference and she said it was really helpful! >//

ooh, tysm for explaining it from the perspective of someone with a folder like this!
i like the concept you mentioned of making the folder so you can check on the characters for updated and new art and so you can see their development with their owner rather than having it to keep tabs on them for future resale purposes, ty for highlighting this reason!!
and the custom reason makes sense also, it can help designers get a feel for the kind of themes/palettes you lean more towards and help them fit your ideas more ~

No problem at all ! :D Yes yes !! Thank you! >//v//< It makes me happy seeing characters get love yknow? The only thing that sucks more than not having a design you really want, is seeing the owner not use them to me SLDKGSDGG but ynever know if theyre just using them in the background or something..I know i certainly do LOL. Plus I can definitely appreciate art of a character i like hehe.

For sure! i definitely like seeing examples of what people like when I'm making stuff for them myself!

oh yes i can definitely understand from that point of view, if you've designed the character yourself i can see there being potential uncomfort because they're more personal/catered to you

from creating this post i've come to realise that it's definitely the phrasing of the folder that's what makes me uncomfortable and not the actual folder itself i think!

On most cases I don't mind? It's kind of flattering and stuff like that is especially useful for trading as well! thooooo it is uncomfortable when people add your personas to wishlist folders... like oh do you want me cause im not available

oh my gosh, i hadn't even thought about people adding my persona to those kinds of folders! yes that would make me very uncomfortable too!

the idea of turning off favourites on designs you know you'll never part with is such a great idea, i didn't even know it was an option to only turn off for specific characters!

i agree with the phrasing of the folders, maybe this is is the part that makes me uncomfortable? 'MUST HAVE' and 'WISHLIST' makes me very uncomfortable as i worry people will try to do anything to obtain them and the 'wishlist' makes it sound like they're shopping?

but yes, the 'designs i like' folders i find much nicer as i like that others share a love for the characters i love too and have put a lot of time in effort into spoiling? it makes me feel like i'm doing a good job i suppose?

as long as people are respectful then i agree that the folders aren't really harmful as long as they're phrased in a kinder way like you mention

thanks for adding on about the trading part, i do see how these folders help you get a better idea of what kind of designs to offer people and in a 3WT it would be very helpful as long as it's all agreed!

I suppose for me, I dont mind it as much because for me I'll see characters that I find have so much personality and I adore. And i admit if they do ever go on sale I'd go in to buy them but i have no intention on going to the person and asking them if they'd wana sell them when it's clearly not going to be or no sign of it. In a way it's also inspiration for me to develop existing characters or just think of ideas I could apply to my existing characters. (I really only look at the character design not their story).

I know some of the characters I have are on peoples dream design list, and I dont mind it as much since I know the designs are in demand and its harmless. As long as they arent persistent in trying to grab at lit or make it known that they want it. I've had people ask me repeatedly for a design or be put on a list of people I could sell it too or just unfavorite it and re favorite it fairly often and it's annoying so I just kind of block them temporarily. Otherwise I fond it harmless as long as it doesnt step in towards harrassment.

ooh, i like this way of looking at it, i hadn't thought of it this way!
i guess part of me is worried about the 'harrassment' side of it like you mentioned when it comes to these folders, i've only had a small experience with it but i think that is what's started to make me a little uncomfortable with the concept of them as it was not nice to deal with and made me private/hide the characters for a while.
so far though it's not been too bad and most people have just silently added my characters to the folders and i've only really stumbled upon them randomly in the folders when i see UFT/S posts and they want to show what kind of designs they like/would be interested in. i thought that might cause harassment of people trying to obtain my designs as 'fodder' i suppose to get the designs they were interested in from the journals, but i've yet to experience that luckily.
i was just curious on others people's thoughts, so tysm for sharing yours!! this makes me see it in more of a positive way ; v ;
