real talk! (oversleeping)

Posted 5 months, 11 days ago by zidanetribal

hi here's a random bulletin for you lovely folks. only i'm talking about actual shit so it is not as entertaining

i've had this problem where, if i don't have some kind of alarm set, i could sleep for more than 12 hours unintentionally; like today i slept for 16 hours 💀 i genuinely dont know if this is of any medical concern or not but i'm kind of worried that it'll affect my life a bit too much for my liking. that all said, should i like, be seeing a doctor if this has happened quite a few times recently?? and if youve experienced something kinda similar id like to hear about it too if you wouldn't mind. it's just eating away at me :(

Do you work a lot? On my days off I can easily sleep around that much time, though I only get like a couple chances a week to do that. It happens even when I'm well rested, so I've always assumed it's still my body recovering from lots of stress/work/activity.

It wouldn't hurt to talk to a doc about it, though. It'd be better if you can do those Teledoc/nurse hotlines since they won't charge as much.

i do work fairly often; it's only a part timer but at the same time i do college full time :,D i've also gone under the assumption that it's just my body making up for stress/overexertion

i'll see if i can reach out to a doc abt it though if it persists

Hypersomniac bich.

Nah but uhhh, maybe if you're staying up too late, thats whats causing you to oversleep but if its not, then its definitely the medical condition. Id personally ask a doctor about it for a diagnosis.

So I have a sleeping issue as well, but the reason I sleep so much if I don't set an alarm is because I rarely get quality sleep due to my anxiety induced insomnia. So I would definitely mention it to a doctor of some kind merely because it could be something else, like in my case, in that rather than needing the extra sleep, the normal sleep you get isn't quality sleep, so you never get fully rested. Also if this only started recently I'd recommend looking into a different mattress or pillow as turns out that was partially why I was always tired out of the blue as it was affecting my sleep as well. And finally I also recommend some sort of sleep tracking app, while not 100% medically accurate it's helped me a lot with figuring out when I get quality rest versus not, I personally use Pokemon sleep as it helps with the anxiety aspect but ik there are a ton of apps out there to choose from. Anyways that's my experience with sleep issues and clearly everyone is different but hopefully some of this maybe gives you an idea on where to start :D (so sorry this is so long I didn't realize how much I actually wrote 😭)

It's never happened to me, but it has for my sister. Mostly due to I believe medications or a total of lack of sleep. However, if it's outta the blue and you have had a record of getting good rest and it's TOTALLY freaking you out, I'd say it'd be good to seek out a specialist :')

yeah i do take meds for my adhd/depression but neither are supposed to make me drowsy as far as i understand; i'll try and seek out some specialist maybe
