im being so serious rn like please genuinely fcking quote me on this and link it to me next time u see me opening art trades like a jackass :o[
art trades have always been one of my favourite things to do in the art community, and it probably always will be. in all honesty a lot of the time i moreso enjoy giving the art rather than receiving it. but oh. man
i have so many ppl that owe me their side of the trade at this point that i dont even bother adding them to my public to-do list. it would be a 5 min read just looking at all their usernames, i have multiple trades im waiting on from 2022 and even 2020 T_T
its not even the fact i dont remind them. i do and i either get ignored, told theyre going through art block while they open trades and requests and are pumping out 89 drawings of their ocs a day, or in one case blocked and blacklisted for 'harassment'. i dont think reminding you 2 times in 8 months abt our art trade counts as harassment but whatever
also in all honesty its just. its not worth it. i try to put a lot of effort and time in all my trades, only to find myself receiving rushed art w missing hands n limbs, uncolored parts, very wrong significant details
or we'll agree to a fullbody and ill receive an icon,,, again, i very much prefer giving art but when the disrespect is so blatant it very much does make me feel like a dumbass
if ur reading this and u owe me art from 6+ months ago id rather have u flat out tell me that youre not intrested in doing ur side anymore. ill gen appreciate the honesty leagues more than being lead on and i wont rlly hold any grudges against u cuz of it, i get just not feeling inspired about a character.
i uhm dont care if im being seen as unkind in this rant,,, me not allowing ppl to walk over me and disrespect my effort shouldnt be seen as unkind. ill just stick to trading with my dearest friends and mutuals

You're not being unkind for ranting about this, having to finish your art trade right after the others do should be a common sense among artists (UNLESS they're in a harsh situation/have irl problems)
I'm so sorry for hearing about your experience with the unprofessional artists, it really annoying especially after you spend your time and effort for your part of trade, you doesn't deserve it, especially with that awesome art of yours!

no literally i 100% support this. as someone who has been on the end that can't fulfill, theres so much accountability that has to be taken and it is embarrassing and it does such especially when you forget about something but that's no excuse to ghost someone. I'm so sorry you've had to deal with SO MUCH of this. it's really annoying.

People always give themselves more work and refuse to admit, I swear most problems on this sight would be solved if people just admitted they couldn't draw something or that they bit off more than they could chew. Like people will understand, maybe be annoyed but it's better than ghosting someone and making yourself out to be a bad guy. People would be able to come to agreements on what to do if they just said something. Art trades can be so fun and yet people sorta make em not fun, I did a custom trade once with a at the time friend. 3 for 3, I did mine within 3 hours and they never did theirs. Still use em for a story too, we love people :)

Fr, I don't get how people can scam others and still use the characters or art. Like??? Especially if you got beef with that person, ain't that a whole other reason to not use it? But I guess some people don't care lol. I think the dead giveaway was also that they'd change what they were giving me, like I asked for characters based off of certain pokemon and they'd either forget the names or be like "I'm doing this one instead". Just sat there like cool ig

Iv dealt with stuff like this before, unfortunately getting short changed on th happens a lot...
I did a trade with someone in like 2018 for like... 10 pieces of art in exchange for my character and they rushed at least half of them, some where less art then they were supposed to be (like some half bodies instead of fulls)
I ended up giving them the character but chewing them out and blocking them so now I'll never take more than 2 pieces for a trade again lol

DUDE this is why i just roll my eyes when ppl offer ridiculous amounts of art. like yeah u say that in the moment but i dnt trust it 😭 i had a guy offer 4 chibis on smth, i was like only 2 are good and they insisted on 4 and never even got one done, they just ghosted me.

no this is so real omg its why idk if ill ever do art trades with nonmoots 😭😭 i did a low effort like 5min custom trade with someone i barely knew ONE TIME and they left all chats and ghosted me, thankfully we agreed to not share until were done so i was barely affected but its like ☠️ ok. and apparently thats super common for this site

TBH I WOULDVE BCZ MY FRIEND GROUP STOPPED INTERACTING WITH THEM BY NOW, BUT IT WAS A REALLY BAD 5 MINUTE DOODLE OF A CHARACTER THAT 100% WOULD NEVER SELL EVEN FOR LIKE $5, SO IT WASNT EVEN WORTH LMFAO😭 GIRL HAD ME RELUCTANTLY DESIGNING A CIVIL WAR OC (UNION OBVIOUSLY I WOULDVE INSTANTLY DECLINED IF IT WAS THE CONFEDERACY) BECAUSE I WANTED ONE LOW RES ANGEL DOODLE THAT WOULDVE TAKEN MAYBE 10 MINS FOR THEM 😭😭

Nah that’s completely valid, esp when you’re doing your part of it and people are just ignoring you and doing all other pieces of art.
I love doing art trades too but knowing myself I only choose to do them when I know I can complete them, and if i happen to forget to and the other person does as well i’ll end up doing so but checking in with the other person too
It’s so saddening when u put your all into something and someone else just doesn’t bother with it.
Like sometimes art trades are the reason I make friends, it means the world to me when i can draw something for someone and get something just as awesome back. It feels like a fun little gift exchange rather than a chore
and if it ever feels like a chore to anyone, DON’T DO ART TRADES!!

This is unfortunately a common experience. I’ve noticed so much lack of communication in the art community lately and it’s really sad. Its not just art trades either its happening to a lot of us who PAY for commissions. It’s so hard to know who to trust, but I feel like we can’t isolate ourselves either. I wish it was easier. 😭
