(Feb 2019): Nando is Bassi's dorky, eccentric sweetheart and Bassi loves and admires him dearly.
Prior to Nando's death, Nando was one of Bassi's closest friends, as well as his fairly new sweetheart. The little demon boatswain was responsible for Bassi not getting thrown off the first ship they were on, Le Petit Oiseau, and even took Bassi as one of and taught him useful skills like reading and writing. While Nando managed to be a frequent source of frustration, which Bassi accurately figured to be intentional on Nando's part, he still had a (sometimes) charming nature and truly seemed to care passionately about his work and those around him.
In spite of Nando's obnoxious ways, Bassi came to admire him and, in time, love him dearly--as well as Nando's eventual sweetheart, Sceptre. Bassi never expected to have either of them, but ultimately ended up with them both. And Bassi was happy to be so loved in return.
But then Nando died in a dragon's fire and Bassi took over Nando's role on the ship. the loss of such a dear friend and partner was unbearably hard on both Bassi and Sceptre, but they managed to continue on with their lives and learned to live with the grief. Until Nando returned.
Bassi is amazed, glad, and overwhelmed to have Nando back, and is very concerned for Nando's anxious state. Now all Bassi wishes is to keep close to him and know he's safe.
