I use around 1290 x 720 or 1920 x 1080! and I use Paint Tool SAI 2.0 for drawing and animating (and Vegas Pro 17 to edit the frames together) but I also use FlipaClip to make animations sometimes :3
mm yeah! xD actually the reason why I use small canvas sizes it's because my computer was so slow that it was impossible to work on a larger canvas LOL I have a new computer now, but I guess I just got used to work that way :p
