mostly I pay people TBH i don't do trades quite as often. I've spent at least 5k USD, maybe more on this character since I got my job a year and a half ago.
art trades are a two way street, if you don't get yours done no one will trade with you tbh. I mean I would be really upset if I did a trade with someone and they just never did the art if that's what you meant by that?
also it's an art type thing too, I know you mostly work with bases, and that's another thing, most people wouldn't want a base art drawing in a trade unless they were using a base too.
(and of course like no offense or anything, I enjoy working with bases myself a lot :0)
I think what helps me is trying to do sketch practice!
I like to sit down and give myself a time limit and try and draw as fast as I can in that time frame! it helps me get better at doing stuff quick but also helps in general becasue it gives me lots of time to practice ^^
