This style of animation is called tweening/puppet or interpolated animation, basically the software uses keyframes to define the starting and ending points of the animation, then it automatically generates the inbetween frames it involves creating a character with separate parts that can be rigged using either bones or meshes I used a free software called Animeeffects to animate these, you can download it here! http://animeeffects.org/en/
