[art thread] salida draws! ...sometimes

Posted 3 years, 6 months ago (Edited 2 years, 8 months ago) by salida

All of these art sharing threads are really nice and seem like a fun way to share and talk about your work..... so i'm making one :D I can talk FOREVER about art related stuff because I have a lot to say but I'll see if i can keep it brief...

As for a little introduction: my biggest interest is of course art, it takes up a large part of my brain (perhaps too much) and otherwise i like to play vidya games... I don't really have a big project i'm working on anymore and instead i like to draw little comics or illustrations of my ocs. Not quite as much commitment as the webcomic i was intending...

I hope to be some kinda illustrator or storyboard artist in the future. You can find my social media links here, i used to be pretty inactive on social media but ive been trying to upload art and be active again ^_^;; im currently in a weird art spot. The program i use is clip studio paint on my laptop :) recently ive started drawing on procreate too.

hope you enjoy your stay :]

aaaaand for today... im working on that redraw i said i was gonna do. theres more to it on other layers but ill share the thumbnail for now. went for a kinda opposite approach in several ways, including it being a landscape canvas instead of portrait. a vertical oriented canvas feels a bit restrictive to me? like theres only so many trees i can add before it becomes cluttered, but i think a horizontal oriented canvas gives me more space for that kinda stuff. i want to have a lot of trees but not too many that they overpower the focal point, which is something i ran into when doing a couple thumbnails before. i'm not even sure if thisll even be my final composition, im planning on brainstorming some more ideas and studying some landscape artists to help me. I'm also planning on another piece that mirrors this one but i havent started on that yet past a very crude ms paint sketch i made so i wouldnt forget about it. Faz5MZI.png

EDIT: i am including the mspaint sketch because i think it looks funny. i quickly wrote down some composition notes from class cuz i want to apply it to the future drawing

This is gonna be my last post for a while bc im taking a break to get some personal stuff done! Drawing some poses from pinterest right now. i still have some refining to do for this sketch cuz i see a lot of things i havent gotten quite right.... its really nice to see that even if ive only done a few anatomical studies, theyve still helped me a noticeable amount when constructing bodies (getting the curviture of the spine better and a better understanding of how it works, for example). i'm excited to see what i'll be able to accomplish once i've studied way more o_o

been quite a while since i posted here! once i step off of social media/online spaces i find it addicting to be off and i have a very hard time coming back ;__;

tonite i was gonna draw fanart for a game i just recently finished, but i saw a reference image with a fun pose and redrew it as my oc instead :U my ocs always prevent me from drawing fanart lol. living in my head rent free as usual!

Posts are gonna continue being pretty slow bc of school u__u

i actually havent like... genuinely drawn something in quite a while. glad i could put something out today tho... heres some silly stuff i drew that started off as an excuse to draw muscles and arms bc i have a new-found love for drawing arms and muscles... as well as arm muscles specifically haha. and i am yet again using the su cream pencil brush for almost everything i dooXT5TBA.png

Been another hot minute since i posted... almost an entire month in fact! this time i drew forrest in a really nice classic lolita dress i found online. i would never buy or wear clothes like this ( i hate dresses lol) but its nice to draw and admire :)

Using the marker pen for lineart is way easier and prettier than using my usual turnip pen. the turnip pen has a lot of variance in line weight bc of pen pressure so i have to do several strokes to get the proper line weight or thickness and its kinda annoying... and i find these simpler lines MUCH easier. my school semester will end soon so i will hopefully be able to draw more and post on here more often :O

time for another update! this time i don't have much to say, i'm just gonna be sharing my 2020 art summary! (under a spoiler cuz its bigggg)

this years been insane for reasons completely unrelated to covid... and its really interesting to look back on it. i look at some of the stuff i drew earlier this year and go "no fucking way that was drawn in august...!" but time is really weird like that u__u

every past yearly summary ive done has very palpable improvements even if i show only one piece per month... and this year is no exception. i'd say this year has the absolute most improvement of any of them, thanks in part to me finally starting to do studies instead of improving by coincidence. its not included here but looking at my anatomy from just ONE month ago is so crazy to me. ive improved so much in such a short time and its really motivating ;__;

this might end up being my last post here of the year so... i hope all of you have a nice day and a good holiday season :D

17 days into the new year and i realize... i planned on posting the first drawings of the year but totally forgot. better late than never i guess??

these two were drawn and completed on january first :) clip studio paint lets you import photoshop brushes now, and i found a really nice lining one. Its got a lot of pen pressure potential...or whatever youd call it? and a nice texture to it as well. feels very very nice to line with, even if i have to redraw lines a couple times because of lack of stabilizer. if anyone's interested its called "Kyle's Inkbox - Brush Beauty 2" finding cool new brushes i enjoy always makes me eager to draw lol

first drawing was something originally sketched in my sketchbook, i usually don't use several different shading laters but i think for this one it worked out well :) took me a while to figure out how to get the background to look like a bedroom in the morning but i think i pulled it off decently? and the second drawing was more of a "winding down in the evening but i still feel like drawing" kinda piece

Hello again! Originally this was gonna be a bulletin... but then i remembered I have an art thread and it would be better off there.

I have a comic i want to make that's 18 panels in the first part alone. I've had a very messy first sketch of it done for a couple weeks but i'm.... too intimidated to work on that right now. It's pretty ambitious with the subject matter and poses and blocking/composition and everything. I'd have to practice some more anatomy and specific poses before I start really working on it.... But this one i'm working on is only 6 panels and focused more on the dialogue and feelings/emotions rather than the actions taking place. itll be a nice way to practice and figure out if i like the lining + coloring method i stumbled upon while drawing this ximena piece

Came up with the concept at like.... 3 am or something last night, as a lot of my ideas come. I started this about 2 hours ago and im already halfway with the first sketch layer (luckily i wont need like 3 or 4 sketch layers for this one, unlike the 18 panel one u_u) so i feel like i'm in a nice rhythm... I erased the dialogue and panel notes to keep the topic/theme/whatever a surprise... for the intrigue :]

i've been experimenting with my art lately because i'm in one of the usual "everything i draw sucks!!! i'm stagnating!!!" moods. right now my method of experimenting is copying artists i really love and admire. this... does not look like the art i was trying to imitate and it was not what I was going for but i quite like how it turned out anyways :) its about time i draw cooler poses

synth thank you! i was thinking of adding a couple textures to this (i actually forgot to overlay a texture now that i think about it LOL) but i think it looks better this way :)

I love your art,,,  Your style would be PERFECT for a comic.

finally forced myself to finish this comic ive been working on :) i wish toyhouse had a comic upload feature or something bcuz i drew every panel separately and i had to paste em onto one canvas to be able to post it... i was originally gonna post it as a literature but that wouldve been awkward to me. oh well!

comic under a spoiler bc its a big file lol...
