Any advice for those who's posting stuff online?

*Dusts off this account and the forums* Hi uh. Back for a bit to ask for help.

I'm getting ready to start posting my works online again after a traumatic event happened. (Long story short, felt scared of myself and my works, barely made anything for two years, decided to get back into it to accomplish my dream of being someone people remembers for their work) I'm figuring out what I should be doing and actually try to work for this and do serious art/content creation account stuff since I was a kid/teen when the thingy happened and I barely got any attention. I mostly posted art for fun, hoping for my desperately wanted attention and barely got anything and usually didn't care lol.

So, throw me tips, tricks, and other stuff. I wanna make smol me proud.

Sites, plans, and a ton of questions. There's a lot of questions here. And it's mostly art-focused. But gamedev/animation meme people/map organizer answers would be nice too.

Basically, for now, I wanna post stuff like art on Twitter and then move onto other sites with time once I prepare for them. What sites would you recommend to me? I'm out of the loop with most things, so I only know about Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, YouTube, TikTok, Fur Affinity, and DeviantArt for good places to post art.

Currently, I plan to start posting to Instagram later with time, and then maybe make stuff for YouTube and I plan to make games for Itch.io and maybe Steam.

Any advice/tips for Twitter and Instagram art/content creation? I mostly need some for Insta since I've never used it but I wanna hear more on Twitter for some reason...

Any animation meme people and people who host maps (multi-animator projects) here who could give advice/tips too?

I also am thinking of using PostyBirb. I just remembered it existed and it might be a good idea. Is this a good idea? Any good or bad experiences with it? Any privacy concerns?

Also, I discovered Nushara earlier today. How widely used is this site? Have anyone here used it and if so, how is it like?

Oh, any gamedevs here or visual novel creators? (If vn creators have names...I literally just got into this a few days ago...do they still count as gamedevs or do they prefer their own names) Any tips and advice for this too?

My goal is kinda to become well known or have an audience, manage to make this a full-time job, and be remembered for my works. I have a fear of being forgotten and this has just been my life-goal for most of my life now. I know the ups and downs of this, but I don't really want to fail this, I guess? I'd be the dream to make cringy oc stuff for a living lmfao-

What is the best site to post on, actually?

Answer anything you think you can answer and wish to answer. Thank you.

I feel like there's more I want to bring up, but I don't remember right now. I'll update this when I remember.

Postybirb is a great tool; all log-ins are stored client-side, without the dev's server ever seeing them, so on that level it's safe. I do basically all of my posting with Postybirb, it's a lifesaver for multiple galleries and lets you queue stuff up in advance.

For Twitter posting, just be aware that it's an awful hellsite designed to be awful to use; you can't link or use hashtags because it'll reduce your post's visibility, and you need to keep the text short for the same reason. Also, it and all algorithmically-driven sites favor people who are already popular, so don't beat yourself up too much about it.

For gamedev stuff, I've heard that Facebook has good ad hit rates once you have something more visible to show? Don't know myself, I refuse to use the site. For actual vn development tools, Ren'py is excellent, it has a really low barrier to entry for basic stuff (and i'm saying this as someone who really struggles with programming). Ren'py also has its own forum, which is good if you want to look for more advice (some of it may be outdated just bc it's been around for ages, but the more general advice and recent posts should still be helpful). Steam charges to post to the storefront and is from what I've heard just generally not great to small devs, so just... be aware.

e: Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm pretty sure Tumblr also removes posts with links from its search due to a longstanding botting issue.

Thank you for the tips and advice! I'll keep these in mind.

New question: What is the best site to post on, actually?

ClyncyeRudje

Yeah, especially with Postybirb to make the process there much simpler there's no harm in shotgunning across multiple sites.

I think I'll just stick to Twitter, TH, Itch.io, Newgrounds, and maybe DA for now. Maybe Instagram but I don't know how much I should be posting...more than once a week would be too much for me and I kinda want to try Newgrounds since I like a lot of the games on their own (but not the people themselves in a lot of cases. I think the only I can think that isn't problematic in one way or another from what I heard is Edmund McMillen?? And possibly Krinkels but I barely know about him) and it might be worth a shot. And DA just feels like one that might be obvious but I don't know how much it'll overwhelm me to set up another account. Plus it's supported on PostyBirb.

Once again, thank you! (Oh, and let me know if I should ping you two again-)
