Simple, fun thread because why not (。・ω・。)ノ♡ I think this fits best in the off topic section.

I do think the avatar you give your characters is important. When people browse through your Characters or see them in the random character section the ones with the pretty pic might stand out and makes people click.

What kind of icons/avatars (or whatever you call them) do you normally use ? The most pretty ones, something which represents the characters personality the most? The ones that pop, or even move? Tell me :D

You can also use this thread to share avatar/icon art you made specifically for your characters and their profiles ! (I know some people do) Can be old or new

also please dont just vote and run.... I love reading your answers c:

i usually use stills because its uh hard to make animated icons

and i pick whichever drawing of the character i like the best, usually of my art just for some consistency ig

I'd really like to have matching icons for characters in the same folder or story but idk if I'll ever get around to that lol

Stormeko

I choose my favorite art of the character as the icon! I'll switch it around sometimes between favorites to keep it kinda fresh. Matching icons only go for Lucas and Ari since they're a couple. Icons for them will always be a couple pic. I don't think I'd ever use a pixel icon as it though since those are small. I also can't see myself ever making matchy icons for everyone. I like showing off art I got from others more.

I would use animated icons sometimes if I had many. I'd probably just use blinking ones. But as long as it wasn't a fast moving one it'd be a possibilty as an icon.

Whixy

I love animated pixel icons! Actually, I have a folder where the major part already has their icons (made by me). https://toyhou.se/Whixy/characters/folder:1010899

I love old-school looking ones so those are 32bits. However, icons are different for each folder. 32bit headshot pixel icons for my anthros, I will do 64bit fullbodies for my monsters and ferals, and also RPG-like sprites of the same size for my DnD characters. My Story characters will just have an static artwork, but maybe I'll do a custom frame for each different story.

Most of this is a work in progress tho lol

I just crop out the newest best looking art they got. I prefer to use my own art for avatars to keep it all in a consistent style, except 3 avis because I haven't draw anything solid for those chars yet and that art I've got is so much better anyway, I can't top that lmao

CrabbyJade

for now i'm using ms paint doodles until i make something more icon worthy

TheSaturnianWildcat

a while back i went and did new icons for all my ocs so things could be uniform, it took a month but i feel good every time i look over my characters so it was well worth it!

Poodlebird

Between the two, I can definitely say I enjoy viewing animated avatars, *in Marge Simpson’s voice* I just think they’re neat! Sometimes I can stare at them for hours pfft.

Anyway, when it comes to making them, I usually use stills for like... all my avatars. I’m way too lazy to create animated icons for all 140+ of my characters so yeah, I usually just take their ref, zoom in towards their head, and call it a day. Occasionally I do create headshots just for their Toyhouse icons, such as with a few of my Deckrealm characters, but sometimes I’m too lazy for even that dkwkkwkdkwm.

mossyrocks

would animate my characters' avatars but i'm still a beginner in animation.

Architeuthid

I've started drawing uniform icons for my characters, cropped into a different border/shape for each setting. It looks nice and it's fun!
