Simple, fun thread because why not (。・ω・。)ノ♡ I think this fits best in the off topic section.

I do think the avatar you give your characters is important. When people browse through your Characters or see them in the random character section the ones with the pretty pic might stand out and makes people click.

What kind of icons/avatars (or whatever you call them) do you normally use ? The most pretty ones, something which represents the characters personality the most? The ones that pop, or even move? Tell me :D

You can also use this thread to share avatar/icon art you made specifically for your characters and their profiles ! (I know some people do) Can be old or new

also please dont just vote and run.... I love reading your answers c:

I generally use what ever art I have made of them that I like the best. It doesn't have to be the reflection of their character, I just have to enjoy the art.

VincentVanGoat

I kinda randomly just pick an art piece of theirs. Sometimes I'll stick with one, and then other times I switch it up, but yeah it's not exactly clear cut how I do it, I just sorta do it.

I pick and choose icons that would work well as an avatar. It's usually the more simplified pieces that works well for an icon.

RadiantRaindragon

My characters' icons are usually made from the art piece I'm happiest with at that moment. Often it's a commissioned piece drawn by someone else that I ended up really liking. Other times it might be something I drew myself.

I usually stick to art pieces that have no background and are fairly simple-looking, since I think overly detailed/crowded images look bad on icons. I also... kinda dislike animated ones; they stick out too much in forums and almost seem like a deliberate way to draw more attention to your character.

Kirbygal

same as a couple others i like to use the art piece i like the most at that time, preferably in color but some of them are only b/w cuz im lazyyyy to color lol
Or if I like someone's else art that much for it to be used for the icon that works too. xD

but as the same time i like the characters in their own folders to be a little consistent with each other XD It makes it look nicer in a way. Such as my astro folder and my magical folder lol

I use stills b/c I don't have animated ones and tbh I rather not have animated ones anyway

I usually use art references for them (but cropped). The only exception was one who needed a new ref for the longest time (and still does) because he acts like his old self in the ref (plus I wanna fix up the design a bit. But nothing too drastic). If they don't have a ref and are just a design (usually the ones I make on bases or the image I got if they were a design I bought back when I used to buy adopts), that'll be their avatar.

I'd rather them not be animated. Plus if I were to make custom avatars for each character, it would take up too much time for me personally. I got a lot of characters and seemingly not enough time on my hand. Or motivation. And it can take a long time for me to draw a single piece.

RustyOldGrill

I like seeing animated ones more but if I had a still image that showed the life of the character more than the animated one I had then I would prefer to use the still image. Sorry if my input isn't to detailed I'm sorta on the fence on this one it depends on the situation and the images.

cryptocorvid

I mostly use whatever my favourite art piece of the character is; I am slowly working on making little wiggly icons (like my current avatar) for at least all my main OCs tho! I’ve only made three so far so it’s super slow progress, but I want them all to be consistent ;v;

aska-ray

I like uniformity so I draw cute and easy chibis for my icons to use as character avatars

while it's nice if people want to view and like my characters that's not a factor for me when i make the avatars... i have a lot of characters so I needed somethign quick but presentable and these icons are perfect. They take maybe ~30min to do for the most detailed AND they all look similar and cute! it's perfect for me

Cliodna

I'm neutral on animated ones. I suppose I'm so used to stuff like ads in day-to-day life that having something moving around on the screen doesn't really do anything for me. :D If it's a good animation then all the better.

As for my own icons I generally use whatever image I feel captures the characters facial features the best, because my icons are generally an image from the characters gallery, cropped to show more of their face.
