Hey got another poll here

Recently I have gotten frustrated with the moderation state of this site. There are many important tickets left unanswered. There are extremely rude or strange threads being kept up. And people are getting away with blatantly breaking the rules. Some they can easily get around because at this point toyhouse’s moderation is non existent that people can get away with pretty much anything. How do you guys feel about this? I feel like this thread is needed because I know I am not alone when it comes to these frustrations. Sudo* has really no excuse to be ignoring the site if they can be posting on other sites and giving site updates there than their own site. Being busy is one thing but you have a whole site to run and there is no excuse not start hiring for site moderation.

so how do you guys feel about the state of moderation for the site? Or just how this site is run all together? Maybe Sudo* can come back and realize the community is upset about it?

IIRC correctly (and somebody can correct me if I'm wrong), TH was meant to be more of a "passion project", so I can kind of understand the motivation of moderation to be lacking, but that really doesn't excuse the lack of moderation overall, especially when TH has grown so big.

I'm sure everyone agrees that the site needs more moderators, but sudo (their new preferred way of being referred to) did state the issues that they've come across in regards to hiring more mods (i.e. funding, security, and infrastructure). And honestly, I can get it. Hiring moderators costs money, and you need a solid "standard of guidelines" on how moderators should behave/ handle things, then it takes even more time to train the mods to follow set guidelines/ learn how the site (particularly backend stuff) works.

I'd much rather have to wait for mods than have bad and/ or power-abusive mods with ill intent or otherwise don't know what they're doing. That being said though, I don't want to "just wait" and have things get progressively worse. I think it would be best if sudo temporarily "closed" parts of the site (ex. no access to majority of forums, closing invites, etc.), or hell, even leave the site as "read only" until new mods are hired. This should (hopefully) allow sudo a chance to breathe and focus on hiring mods (preferably outside of TH).

We need more moderation. I love the site and there’s no other site like it but if things don’t change things will only get worse. From minor FAV4FAV spam, Grug spam, and dekudogs to reuploading irl images as F2U resources to genuinely dangerous people, known scammers, trolls, and discrimination getting undealt with to the point where drama blogs and forums exist solely to talk about this site only (I don’t agree with those, but they exist because we’ve allowed them to and we created this mess in the first place). I won’t ever leave TH, but I know many people will of things keep getting ignored/piled up. There’s only so much every individual can take.

I didn’t know that Lulu changed their name to Sudo. My apologies I’ll try and fix it this in the post thanks for bringing this to my attention

to be completely honest, I´m very neutral. yes we do need mods when it comes to theft, , forums and many other cases. But as someone who sees and uses this site primarily as a simple fun storage, I´m not really in a "omg we need mods asap ahhhhhhhhhhh"- mood. As long as the site stays and is usable, I´m okay with it. Now don´t get me wrong new updates and more organization, mods and the sort would be incredible but it´s not that I´m going to leave without it.

yea, the site NEEDS more moderation. I get that its still in beta and a side project, but the owner needs to realize that the site is growing fast, and when a site grows, more security and protection needs to be applied to ensure that everyone is havign a good time

Yea, the bans in SOME instances gets solved pretty quickly if its on the serious side (like actual illegal activity that can put the sites reputation at risk if they do nothing about it like most popular social media), but on the other hand, its mostly dead. It takes months for a moderator to actually respond to report tickets and alot of the times the issue never gets solved. Ive seem multiple instances of people getting wrongfully perma-banned for no reason, and moderators taking YEARS to do anything, some are still open cases. Im not saying that the owner is lazy, far from it, but like, if youre too busy with irl stuff to manage the site, why keep it running in the first place? Heck, I wouldnt mind it if the owner placed ads or donation boxes to raise money for more moderators. Anything for the site to be structured properly. Im glad a raid or site breach hasn't happened yet because if it did, then the site would collapse emedietly.

Though, i dissagree with some saying that “its the worst website in the world”. Id even say the moderation is slightly better than deviantart and thats saying alot, because at least it doesnt take 50 steps to submit a report. I like the site’s minimality because im tired of being on greed hungry websites with 500 gajillion ads and abusive moderators, and i apreciate the owner’s transparency for the most part.

My concern right now is that Sudo has been putting too much time on the site infrastructure than the site itself. The moderation in its current state is very weak, meaning there's WAY too many problems with the site right now, including people uploading "F2U" resources that they don't even own, fave farming, drama that's better off in private (Dw this does not include controversial issues such as Pedophilia, Racism, etc.), and mini-modding. Speaking of that, despite the unprofessional moderation, I hate that mini-modding is slowly becoming normalized within TH, when pretty much so many people know that this is just bad internet behavior in general. I am not leaving this site, but with more and more problems being piled up on this site every day, I became less active, and the only things I do nowadays is either lurk the forums or just upload stuff of my characters (including new ones). I've been here for 5 years, and it sucks that a useful site has gone to shit.

Unfortunately, I'd rather just suffer on a site with minimal moderation and so many problems on its plate.

Basically we need a balance between no or lack of moderation and too much of it/minimods. Both extremes scare me lol.

I think Avistella is hitting the head on the nail here, TH was meant to be a project not a paying job. Sudo prob didn’t expect how high a demand there was for a site like this, it has grown a lot bigger then the average hobby project. Though I do think some people forget Sudo is not forced to do anything, talking about that they can’t be active other places when there is so much here, is kinda eh imo. Not that I dont see how many unanswered tickets, rule breakers and etc there is on this site. This site needs mods, active mature non biased, prob not former members and getting pay for their job, mods. They will need training, and Sudo can’t just hire anyone. (If you have to hire people, you have to have a income = P2U users, not just donations) Closing some parts down, or the whole site is prob the best answer there is.

This site can’t run on F2U options anymore with the amount of members, tickets, forrums and how many options there is on this site. So I hope they find a solution, and motivation from seeing how many members who really do like this site.

This place is a hot mess.

Just a few extra hands to help out with most of the trash on the "popular" page (IP theft "original" characters, "F2U" stuff swiped off google, and "I'll draw your OC" fave farming) and to lock up some PSAs that get out of hand would be nice.

I'm also still of the idea that invites need to stop until we get modding. If the way to get in has to close and people as a result start to value their accounts, maybe we'd have less rulebreakers.

While I get it, I think lack of funding is a poor excuse. Plenty of people, including myself frankly, would be more than happy to moderate as volunteer work-- if places like Reddit and Discord can have unpaid moderators and then I think Toyhouse can handle some volunteer mods. Even if it meant just moderating the forums and not handling tickets if Sudo wanted to continue doing that themselves.

Sudo knows that the website shouldn't be going without any moderation but hiring a moderator team doesn't seem to be a priority for them. With no moderation though, the forums are basically an anything-goes wild west and anyone who wants to troll could totally take advantage of that. Additionally, as far as I know, anyone who is banned could simply make a new account and invite codes are easy enough to come by.

I agree with Pepperly. Invite codes need to be halted until we get some mods that can take on and solve all the backlog of tickets. I know Sudo is busy and has to be overwhelmed because they are dealing with the site as the only mod / admin / owner / coder / etc and I fear that months going by of no updates or communication is signaling a burnout from them. We need mods to pick up the slack here, not just for Sudo and their mental health, but for the well being of the whole Toyhouse community. I think this site in its current state is spiraling out of control and if it keeps up it will be a place where no one will want to be, no one will feel safe, and you’ll see mass amounts of users leave the site until it’s barely active or the only ones that are active are the ones that continue to evade punishment and keep causing chaos.

Goober_

Neutral as hell, idc theres no moderation, I dont realize it

shriekwind

i've been using this site since 2016 and holy shit things have gone downhill

i really do wish there was more moderation, but it's unlikely anything will be changing soon

TheEliBlog

It would help if we could delete tickets, what’s the point in me having tickets if they are going to be left unopened for the next 3 years :/

Deleting tickets would be a safe saver.
