I agree that people should utilize the block button more, but it's not a solution for everything
actual problematic posts and people should not be left unmoderated, it's irresponsible and can lead to more problems
How do you feel [ ANON ON ]
*Update: It has come to my attention that Lulu wants to be referred to as Sudo please refer to them as Sudo
Hey got another poll here
Recently I have gotten frustrated with the moderation state of this site. There are many important tickets left unanswered. There are extremely rude or strange threads being kept up. And people are getting away with blatantly breaking the rules. Some they can easily get around because at this point toyhouse’s moderation is non existent that people can get away with pretty much anything. How do you guys feel about this? I feel like this thread is needed because I know I am not alone when it comes to these frustrations. Sudo* has really no excuse to be ignoring the site if they can be posting on other sites and giving site updates there than their own site. Being busy is one thing but you have a whole site to run and there is no excuse not start hiring for site moderation.
so how do you guys feel about the state of moderation for the site? Or just how this site is run all together? Maybe Sudo* can come back and realize the community is upset about it?
This thread is perfect evidence for the issue with the current administration rn. A CHARACTER WAS STOLEN and the admin writes it off as nothing. The way they treat active character theft is ridiculous. There's so much more going on but this has gotten worse since the last few years this thread has been up.
Also not holding the admin accountable for tickets that have been open for years and not listening to their community is a danger in itself. Its not just a user engagement issue, yeas while blocking can do wonders for this community that doesn't excuse the site's lack of moderation. You can have a block button and a report button for a users safety at the same time. Toyhou.se was a passion project that has grown in monthly users everyday its no longer a small website.
there isn't anything that i can say that hasn't already been said. by this point we have two options:
- Get the admin to listen (take a wild guess as to how easy that would be)
- Build another character storage site that functions as a drop-in toyhouse replacement
in my honest opinion, i don't think unvale and character hub would count as 'replacements' since both have their catches or 'gotchas' or fine print (i'm thinking more about how sheezy acted as a drop-in dA replacement, if that makes sense).
by the way, the replacement would have to be objectively better than toyhouse, because as shitty as the site is (in terms of safety and admin activity at least) what's the point of jumping ship if it's just going to be a worse or same experience as TH itself? some people don't interact with the community and just use it purely as a character repo.
i believe we need to consider that side too when making the site such as improvement to profiles, more features and QoL things to make building characters easier and more fun, that sort of thing. yes, we can clone a site, but we can't clone a community. we also need to justify the site and the decision to migrate to that site outside of "i can run this site better than sudo XD" or "we have mods XD" how will moving to the new site benefit them outside of community related concerns? what are the technical and character repo related improvements the site has that makes it superior to toyhouse? these are the questions we must ask because there are many kinds of toyhouse people that we need to consider.
^^ i've been personally keeping a page in obsidian and jotting down my ideas of a toyhouse replacement because thinking about it and conceptualizing it is fun :)

Exactly!
blocking also only works as long as the user who was blocked respects that boundary; they can easily be circumvented through alt accounts, incognito tabs, having someone else contact the blocker, etc etc. it's NOT an alternative to moderation, especially on a site as large and full of drama as this one.
