How are you.

I've been snooping around on them. Sometimes claiming people for the fun of it. I'm just looking to discuss whatever comes to mind, I might even lock this thing after a while.
The only thing I ask is that you don't go out of your way to complain or talk about a specific person or be disrespectful in any way. This is meant to be more of a 'I think this aspect of forum games is kind of silly' or 'I think there's a trend with these games' type of thing.
Personally, I always feel like I should avoid certain games or just wait till some other person shows up. I'll see a character I like and think it'd be interesting to claim, but the aesthetics or whatever make me unsure about involving myself. I feel like they're always anime-esque or too good for my characters, so it just feels weird to put my plain old middle-aged men into the picture.

me,as an art game forum regular, i kinda like either active or not in the forum cuz i try to hunt for one at least good oc design so i can draw them(or not) or i just bored and wanna draw some ppl oc and i kinda enjoyed it alot idc how long i have to wait to be claimed but at least i want people draw IC more than my others character(but i dont want thread to be dead so i let people draw my other ocs,i dont mind them i just still liked it anyways)i do rarely claim same person cuz i wanna keep thread alive or something..

art game forum kinda keep me up cuz AF is long months away so that would helps me get higher than 202 attacks xd

normal forum game kinda idk..i participated one thread and it was good

muichiro

forum game regular and a (sometimes) long post writer here.

i can attest that most people do not care if you don't write a reply of six paragraphs to match the six paragraphs above. a lot of times, the people who write the six paragraphs know the person they're writing to or have prior IC interactions to branch off of, which leads to the ability to write a lot of information. i am happy to just get a paragraph from people as long as it relates to the context of the thread and has a balance of both of our characters involved. don't let an unspoken rule or your own demands deter you away from something that could be fun.

BATATA

While i'm not super active in forum games i sometimes do like to post in simple, relatively low effort ones such as the "assign a pokemon type to the oc above" and such. I'm not comfortable enough in my writting abilities to write in higher effort/rp one tbh, those really tend to get very long replies which does intimidate me lol. Art games on the other hand, while they do seem fun i don't post in them because the only two times i did i killed the threads 💀 I still should try again though once i have the time and motivation, maybe it'll go better this time, after all it's been a few years since i last tried...

not to sound like a toyhouse boomer but i miss the old forum game culture :( the only "high effort" forum games were the ones specifically labelled high effort, and those were few and far between. anyone could just hop in and play a handful of games in a quick moment. it was fun and low stress. ive tried a few times in the past to get back into forum games but the shift to everyone writing paragraphs upon paragraphs for every game has pushed me out of it completely since ive never been good at writing long. ive seen so many people complain about putting in so much effort only to get a few sentences in return and im :/ since i know i could never consistently put out all those paragraphs they want. i guess its fine so long as everyones having fun, i just miss  being able to participate.

paramedic That's actually really relieving to hear, tysm for sharing your perspective on that!!

im late BUT THANK YOU SO MUCH MUTONIAN pony is my favorite hehe <3

the hot topic seems to be post length. i'm one of the six paragraph textwall people and honestly on the flip side, i often feel awkward or embarrassed with my long posts even if i'm replying to a long post, but i just don't get much fun/enjoyment out of short games since i participate in forum games because i like writing and reading. i tend to imagine people look at my textwall and are like "literally what is wrong with you" JFKDS but yeah sometimes i pop into the shorter ones but not that often/i dont get too much out of it most of the time.

im sorry to hear that people feel discouraged cause of length, that's part of why i feel Cringe tm for having such long posts because i dont want to discourage anyone; i personally don't care how long a reply is to me so long as it feels like they put effort in (i.e i can tell they read my character's profile)

ROTTENDECOMP

Very occasionally I pop into a low effort or simple forum games! They can be fun when Im in the mood. I stray away from roleplay and direct interaction threads though. I have very little interest in talking with other people ic or in great depth... too tired for all that. "Drop a little comment, then leave" is my preferred type of game 👍 Even if I was a little spunkier, I'm the type of person to solo and MMO as much as humanly possible so... I dont know if I would be more chatty. 😭

I'm more into the art game side of things. Nowadays I usually just do pixel heads in the xtreme low effort thread but every once in a while I do something else. :^) I like it because its like art trades but I dont have to talk to the other person all that much. 💀 Its just a fun way to get some art of my ocs and also give someone else a little something in return :^D And like impeack said, scratches that Art Fight itch a bit.

I used to be a forum games regular, but I’ve tapered off due to irl responsibilities sapping my creative juices and overall energy levels :,) Right now, I prioritize the private role plays I have, but I might hop into a forum game if I get struck with inspiration or if something in the more low effort ones spark my interest haha

But I do agree that they’re a lot of fun, and personally, I love the IC role playing ones! Even if I no longer actively participate, I like to randomly open up a thread and read it like an old man does with his morning newspaper. They’re a great avenue for further fleshing out and getting a ‘feel’ for a character, and it’s always exciting to see how other people will react to your OC! Plus, sometimes you get interesting ‘tidbits’ from an interaction that aren’t listed in a character’s profile, and it’s like you‘ve stumbled upon a hidden gem 🥰

when i first got toyhouse (a few months ago, im still pretty new) i mostly went on the forum games, because i liked reading a lot of other people's opinions on my ocs and their assumptions of them. id usually avoid the rp-related forum games since im not much of a roleplayer myself, but ive read through some and they're pretty cool!! for me specifically, i tend to turn to low effort forums since im not much of a good writer to make whole paragraphs of somebody's oc i know very little about (,:

I LOVE forum games, if it's not obvious KEKEKEKEK, though like with a lot of people I haven't been active because of real life obligations.

being here for years, I've seen the drastic change from 3 sentences = high effort to 5 paragraphs at 7 sentences each = medium effort on a good day. I can definitely understand why that can be overwhelming and drive others away, and I can also understand why it can be super fun and exciting for others. Getting that for a reply is awesome, it feels like someone basically gave you fanart in literature! On the other hand, even though we're always saying, "you don't have to match length!" there's that unsaid feeling of, "But I HAVE to or else it's rude" and that can ramp up the doubts and anxiety

I think generally people are pretty adaptive and responsive to concerns with the writing forum games. People used to talk about their concerns with the length of posts and now we have more casual games that have invited people over (and it's also been a blessing for me, whose brain is fried after work and can only focus on short games). We also have lengthier games for those that do enjoy writing without limits.

However, I will say that there are some games across several forums that I felt could have been better as a private RP or a World. Some of these feel like although the idea is good, it's clearly intended for a select few characters. That might add to this clique feel some people have brought up.

i used to be active enough to spend my time. however the writings i made feel silly and bit "cringy" but worth. nowadays there is not much of a plenty of fun amazes me. also the school brrrr.

NinjaNightCrawler

Not too fun for me tbh

There's either too many rules, I just can't do those "the OC above is X" games, or nobody claims me ever hhhhghghjfjfj

Some are ok though like the low effort ones but thats just about it for me
