Some people have strictly humanoid ocs. Some people have strictly anthro ocs. Some people have strictly feral ocs.

We all have a preferance, even if it's just slightly so.

What is yours? What do you find appealing about your choice? Why did you first "chose" this? I'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions!

As always, Do Not turn this into a nsfw thread, keep it family friendly guys. And if you MUST, black it out. This is just a friendly discussion.

Will be posting mine shortly.

i used to have a lot of feral ocs, but eventually i wound up moving to humanoids - additionally, i love furries, but there isnt any place for them in mooost of my worlds (i have one side one for em), so the vast majority of my characters end up being human. sometimes humans with monster traits (i prefer a broad sweep that changes skeletal/facial structure a bit uncanny-valley-like when i go for that - like ari - not a big fan of kemonomimis usually). i like trying to represent a diverse range of people and its nice to be able to stand back and look at a cast like that.

im a bit surprised at people saying ferals have less options for variety though? it really depends on how you design them imho. i think in theory ferals should have more options, since humans are only one species and ferals are 100s times more species that you can then design many characters with unique traits in each single species, if you wanted.

I mostly have human/humanoid/monster-y characters. I really like designing anthros, and appreciating other's designs, but I haven't really had a chance to connect to any of them. No RPs, or settings or games im interested in have really given me a chance. Unless you count very monstrous humans as anthros, but I refer to it more in the 'furry' human-shaped animal sense, rather than human with animal traits sense.

Ferals I want to love and appreciate and I definitely liked them as a kid (Warriors...Guardians of Ga'hoole...Dragons...). I've tried to be more interested in them.
But nowadays I'm like. what do i do with them. can they have jobs? can they do video game? can they cook a thing?? Of course this varies by setting/realism, and lots of plot drama can certainly happen with ferals, but again...I don't rp with them or really have settings for them so that's not happening. For now i just like looking at their designs.
BUT I guess I like to have ferals when they're like...the odd one out in a group of humanoids. I guess you could count Rome as a feral, even though he's just a big blob

Overall I like designing humanoids and then I can happily adjust how normal or monstrous they look depending on setting.

I heavily prefer human and humanoid ocs over anthros and ferals, simply because they generally are more appealing to me when it comes to relating to them, as well as being able able to develop nsfw stuff about them and the such. I do have anthro ocs, but mostly just for fun and creative ventures. Developing unique anthro anatomy is sometimes as fun as doing one for a humanoid original species, but that's as far as I like it. I'm a bigger fan of creature-like anthros than the more common human-like anthros that wear clothes and the such, and I guess I don't really see the appeal unless there is extensive lore behind it, so I don't have many ocs like that. As for ferals, I grew out of the appeal of ferals long ago and don't really dabble much in it anymore, but I would make one again for lore reasons.

Ironically, I started off drawing ferals, before progressing to anthros, and finally humans and humanoids. All of my characters from a young age were feral, but when I grew out of that state and began expanding, I made some into anthros, and began playing around with humans. It was later in life that I really began to focus mostly on humans, and made brand new characters as the old ones faded out of my appeal.

lophiusdragon

basically my entire life until around high school i primarily drew fakemon

i never liked drawing humans

especially the face

ive always liked the egyption god kind of humanoid, human body with an animal head

i guess its the same kind of appeal as object heads

i dont really draw mammal ferals, i mainly draw like dragons and monsters now

Chyoatas

I have mostly feral OCs, secondary anthro, and all my human OCs are gijinkas of the previous feral OCs i mentioned.

mostly, ive been a g4 mlp fan since 2012. thats what ive been drawing, so. besides that, i just love how much more creative i can be! with human ocs, i usually feel restricted to 'natural' palettes, with ferals, i can have neons and rainbow colors! because its already fantasy- add some pink ponies why dont you? and, since its fantasy, i get to dress cute lil ponies in cute lil dresses and then coo at how cute they are. who could give that up?

that, and ponies are easy to draw. they're simple, squishy, rounded, and fit my cutesy style well. humans dont fit it as well (though by god i try), but ferals and anthros just seem to fit really well with cutesy styles.

So, I have all humans but I also don't have like, a universal preference? I think it really just depends on the setting. I also have like, 50 alternate versions of the same few characters because I am That Guy FDFSFDddd though my pages don't reflect that right now. But like, while my characters are canonically human they have a lot of nonhuman/furry variations too.

In general, I don't really agree that any species/oc type are more "limiting" or less potentially varied than others.

Kirbygal

I like humans; I'm too uncreative to use anything other than it. I pretty much draw and create the same thing over and over but with different personalities lol ♡ Once in a blue moon I may draw someone else's anthro, if I like the design enough. Overall, I just don't like animals, to be blunt, and definitely not enough to use them daily or use them with purpose in a character.

GLITCH-DXCTOR

Not gonna lie, I love and appreciate them all! I’ve been trying a little harder lately to keep my characters balanced. Some of my anthros have feral forms, and the opposite. I’m trying to make human forms some of my animal characters.

I did start off with feral characters, though! Most of my inspiration comes from famous animator LupisVulpes, which is where that all began. Gradually I began getting back into the furry community, where I dabbled in drawing anthros. I saw so many fun concepts in that that I began creating my own anthro characters. With humanoid characters, I have @PicklePantry and @Milkman to thank for that! Seeing the gorgeous writing and designs by them really struck inspiration with me.
