honestly I'm pretty chill and know that art is a luxury to own and buy, so I'm grateful for everything I do have, but something that irks me is when I commission someone based off their examples and the product looks nothing like their examples, because the artist is only showcasing their best pieces, not their average/typical quality.
sorry to add to the string of pet peeve threads OTL. i just thought this would be a good place for people who buy commissions and who sell commissions to vent their frustrations. ill go first to break the ice.
when artists make you pay through friends and family, its soooo sketch. also when artist say theyll have your stuff done in one week...and never get back to you or do it way after a week. like its happened so many times and i feel like its a 'give me five minutes' type of thing. like just give me your real time frame, no need got give yourself a week if you know its not going to happen.
you all have very valid points! im going to add another complaint of mine since no one has said it yet.
when people whitewash my ocs. sidif thats the main thing that annoys me. like their skin color is very clear in the ref, why make their skin lighter?

When you ask about edits and are told "everything looks fine!" three times in a row by the client.
So then you merge layers, move on, and RIGHT WHEN IT SHOULD BE FINISHED

they have a ten page list of things they want you to change that would have been easy to do if they'd pointed literally any of them out THE THREE TIMES YOU ASKED.
Or when people have really bad timing. This part isn't anyone's fault but it's like AAAAAAAAA
So I'll message people, send the update. No response? Cool! Move on to the next piece and work on it in the meantime.
But SO OFTEN, I won't hear anything from a client for HOURS, and the INSTANT I get the next file open and am working on it instead, everyone answers at once.

I feel that :/ I'm more an artist than a commissioner but at times I did commission someone I had similar experiences. People are often super cold too. I understand it's a commission process and not a friend chat/talk but some people handle communication horribly. I don't want to commission them again even tho their art is lovely. Like you said, using the art feels kinda icky.. even worse when it seems like the artist you commission kinda rushes. And you question yourself and feel like the artist hates you for no reason
i hate when they have rules like "you have to follow my Instagram and subscribe to this and follow this and this and blah blah blah before i even consider you" :c
pickleslushiies i hate that too! they don't have to be my best friend or anything but basic kindness and manners are expected :(
