Do you count your art toward a character's worth?

I've seen both sides of this argument and I wanted a general consensus on it. Would you count your own art toward a character's monetary worth? You have put in time and effort into it, but it costs you nothing economically. I'm conflicted on it and I'd love to know opinions!

Nah cause I don’t know my arts worth lol also I really don’t make full pieces often so yeaaaah 🫠

I always count my typical commission prices towards a character's worth, unless it's a sketch without color (since I do those for free anyways and don't offer commissions for them) or something simple I don't offer as a commission, then yeah.. I'd find it silly to not do so, I make fursuits too and if I spent $1k+ on materials and time on a character to make a whole ass fursuit there's no way I'm ever selling that for the single or double digit number I bought that character for just because someone thinks my labor is worth nothing to them lmao. There's nothing that makes visual art any fundamentally different to a fursuit other than the fact that one's a physical item and the other's a digital one.

Your art is worth something and your time is worth it.

Yes I do. Especially when it comes to high detail paintings and ref sheets. I don't use my full comm prices because I would probably get rid of even less characters then lmao. I lower quite a lot.

Random doodles or low effort art? Nope.

very low effort stuff i dont count but i do believe that everything else should be added to the worth of the character as it was my time and effort that added to the character profile and gallery and i feel i should be compensated for the work i had done. When i sell a character with art made by me i normally add the base value of my commissions but if it was a very detailed peice i will add more.

Like several of the people here, I count art I’ve created towards my character’s worth if I’ve put a lot of time and effort into it!

As well, little doodles and crapposts don’t count in my eyes, since most are pretty low-effort on my part 😅

Thanks for making this poll! It’s super interesting to see peoples’ opinions on this

ShadowOath

Yes of course because if you were to sell the character it comes with the extra arts you made. So it has more value than it did beforehand.

While I don't actually put time into counting my characters worth(cuz I'm not gonna sell them), if I did then I'd include most art done(except for stupid doodles and memes ofc). Cuz it's all stuff I put time and effort into, and said time and effort would go to waste if I get nothing out of it in the long run. The art I've done has value, even if it was for myself.

End0scrypt

Depends on what type of art as people above have said.

leafyblues

Traditional, no (bc its usually a silly doodle i whipped up in a minute), but for digital art I would add my would-be comm price (since my artstyle is pretty un-detailed, and they're as cheap as £3 for a chibi)
trade-only chars don't count for this ofc, they stay trade-only.

Only if it’s a very detailed artwork complete with shading, background, a dynamic pose, and fine details.
