Mian the Phoenix King was a just and true leader to the Phoenix  Family. They held a calm disposition to themselves due to the element of  water they carried in their blood. (Which in turn carried onto Yufeng)

Their wife, Daijing, was a quick tempered woman who's anger was unmatched even by their daughter Yufeng.


Fenghuang Sheng, The Fair Phoenix Prince
Oldest brother of Yufeng, who was known for their cunning aptitude. And despite being the weaker of the two siblings with their flame, where they lacked in strength they made up for with their quick wit.

Fenghuang Tao Yufeng, The Phoenix Princess, Conqueror of Dragons
Yufeng was a once feared warrior who fought upon the front lines of  her families many battles against the Dragon Family. Slaughtering many  of their kin and gaining the title of a ruthless conqueror. Though fair  she was, she resigned her heart to no one but her family, and perished  during the final stretch of the war which consumed most of her other  relatives.

Feng Li Mei and Feng Li Chún are twin cousins to Yufeng.

Feng Liang Qiao, Ruler of Anyang
Feng Liang Qiao was brother to the Phoenix King, and fought as his general by his side.

The Phoenix family was a once well respected family of power. Because somehow they'd obtained the ability to reincarnate themselves. While the practice remains unknown, it allowed one's self to return quickly within the right circumstances. Retaining their memories, power, and overall age much like before. To the point it became interwoven into their family's bloodline.

However

There was a war a long time ago that occurred between the Phoenix and Dragon families. Where the Dragon family won, and left the Phoenix family to perish where it was thought they were gone forevermore.

This was due to the Dragon family severing the connection the Phoenix family had to their power of reincarnation. A ceremony which required a good handful of family members in order to channel the elements required to restore their fallen to their original selves.

Without anymore family to do so, that left most to simply outright perish, forced to go through the longer process of reincarnation. Much like Fang. However with Fang, while she may of lost the majority of her power, she still retains the 'connection' one has to her family lineage, and with enough digging it won't be long until she is able to regain her former self.

So long as one feather remains, so too shall the family rise again.

The Ceremony

'The Ceremony of Flames' was what the family called their practice, which involved certain aspects used in order to reignite the flame of their fallen. By using the elemental powers of each family member which corresponded to the fallen, they could bring forth their spirit from the land of the dead and essentially force them to reincarnate, mind, body and spirit.

The War

I think what ended up happening for the war could've probably been  something akin to a misunderstanding, maybe two lovers from both  families got caught and the dragon family disagreed and killed them  both? (Maybe because the Phoenix family was considered weak or something  at the time) Sparking the controversy between the two which eventually  led to the war. The Phoenix family cherishes their loved one's passed  the traditions of such, being as close knit as they were they had to.  That's probably how they came about the 'secret to reincarnation' was a  family member studying like mad to find a means to immortality so their  family could forever live and grow strong to protect each other once the  war started. (Which lasted a LONG time)

Connections to the True Samadhi Fire

Yufeng's ancestors believed that the original phoenix's, the ones who once ruled the skies, honed their mastery of the elements through the use of their fire. And with it, gained a sense of immortality that allowed them to live eternally in this world. Each feather housed a different elemental flame, so long as the connection remained strong, they could burn to ash and bring forth their life once more just as they were before.

Yufeng's family had since honed their own take on this, in the form of 'The Ceremony of Flames'. Having since mastered the True Samadhi Fire, but kept it secret for the sake of their family.

It wasn't until the war between the Dragons and Phoenix started up during Monkey King's Journey to the West did LBD foresee her future with the fire, and how it could be used to burn her into nothingness. And in turn utilized a spell which erased the memory of the fire from this world. Ultimately causing the downfall of the Phoenix Family, for without their ability to utilize the fire, they were left at the mercy of the Dragons and slaughtered.

The Dragons stole two aspects of their fire, the Fire aspect, and the Water aspect. However the Earth was taken before they could get it, by the last surviving member of the family, Uncle Daiyu. Who took it and hid themselves away from the world in hopes of one day reigniting the flames of their family legacy.

(Unbeknownst to them, that in severing the fire, it would ultimately seal their families spirits away, keeping their spirits intact through the talismans they once wore)

Eventually the Immortal Ruyi, Brother to the Demon Bull King, who had been researching about the fire in hopes of gaining power through knowledge, found out where one of the aspect's had been kept. And snuck into one of the Dragon's temples and in turn stole the Fire aspect, before retreating into depths of the Flaming Mountains to keep it safe, having since foreseen what LBD was planning.

The final piece, the Water aspect, still remained in the hands of the Dragons to this day. It in turn allows them to control the sea's, as well as a lot of the waterways throughout the lands. But without the other two pieces, the piece on its own is ultimately useless aside from enhancing the water powers of one individual.
