Comments on Chapter 1 of BikeQuest

Oh my GOSH, I love Pala's antics. Who... who goes through the internet to find the identity of the owner of a busted bike they found on a hike? Pala does, and I love her for that. I also love how stuff like this is such a recurring thing that Fen is already knows to start packing up and even his mom anticipates he's about to head out.

I don't know how to word this, but the way you write how they speak sounds really cool and natural for them!

aa I've been keeping this comment around in my notifications to respond to it, and I finally have the time haha. Pala will read the whole internet in no time tbh. And yeah, this is how a lot of their adventures begin: (Fen gets phone call from Pala, Pala is really excited about something, Fen thinks it sounds cool and doesn't have anything better to do and goes along). It doesn't happen as often as it sounds, maybe once a week or two, but ofc I like to write about it.

Also, thanks, I'm glad you pointed that out! I speak a local creole of English too, so it's fun to work that into my writing instead of having everyone sound 100% American. Takes way more research than it appears (I actually started reading some Hawaiian Pidgin translations just to get the feel of it ahaha).

(sorry for taking so long to reply to this!)

It's a lovely dynamic! They feel like they could be the protagonists of their own slice of life/comedy?/adventure series, and I love it!

Yeah, having different accents is fun, though getting it just right can be tough. But just that little detail in the way Fen's mom talks adds something that makes everything feel a little more real.

I think I mightve posted it on Twitter before you started following, but I did actually start sketching a comic about the two of them with full intention to make a spinoff web comic about them in the future

And oh yes, I am extremely pleased to be able to include something so close to home in my writing as an accent I've spent my life hearing (and watching get mocked). Thanks for pointing it out, I'm glad you like that detail as much as I liked including it!
