A bit of writing toying with the concept of Vehtel's shared "mindscape" and how to represent it.

Cast: Kiron, Kahtyo ,Xroah, Skorr, and Kirro.

A Failed Operation

Scenario:

Vehtel, Skorr, Kirro, and the other Anarchists of Griiyl attempt to overtake a small facility. Things go array after Kahtyo encounters a trap within the facility's security.

Kirro's voice spoke in Kiron's ear. "We've encountered a problem, there's more defenses than we thought. What of your end?" She, of course, was meaning to speak to all of them.

Their current position; Standing in a maintenance room with all sorts of wires spread across the floor. "It's a bit more complicated than the simulation lead on..." Kiron responded, though most of it was Xroah's doing. Kiron and Kahtyo were focused on dealing with the whole power situation. They had to cut off the matter manipulation field so that the others could proceed.

Their shared, semi-false reality [existing for narrative's sake] faded into view. An infinite console of wires, buttons, levers, and blinking lights confronted Kiron, who was kneeling down at the more reality-based tablet.

Kahtyo stood, tampering with the wires in front of him. In these scenarios, his visor was transparent, revealing his eyes. This was all just a visual representation of his influence over the machine.

The program was complicated, with all sorts of protective measures. The both of them tackled it's being, stripping away at it's very coding while avoiding traps. Xroah stood a little ways away, vigilant in reality.

"I'm sure you'll pull through. I'll stop bugging you, that should help." The doctor spoke again.

Kiron continued to type on the tablet which was connected to the machine by several wires.

'Incoming.' Xroah spoke. The mindscape fluctuated for her, revealing significantly more of reality. An eatharyian guard was approaching, and would soon just phase through the wall.

'Need assistance with the math?' Kahtyo asked.

'I'll be okay; just focus on that.' She prepared the equation beforehand, allowing numbers to circle around her.

Reality could be manipulated with nothing but math. Such methods would later be commonly referred to as magic by humans. The eatharyians however, did do it first though. 'Energy manipulation' just doesn't sound as cool.

As the guard leaped through the wall, armed with a large railgun, a pillar of fire thrust upwards, activating his clothing's protective shield which came in the form of a shimmery barrier. He was startled, not expecting a trick used in sport as a weapon. As a follow up attack, a portal opened up beneath him.

He was dumped outside the facility, where their marker was.

Xroah held out her hand, watching the pillar of flames scorch the poor guy.

Kahtyo stumbled backward, attracting the attention of the both of them.

'Kahtyo!?' Kiron called out.

Their connection with him was severed.

'Fuck, what happened!?' She yelled to Xroah, practically panicking.

Within reality, nothing had changed. She simply stopped typing for a moment.

She calmed. Not by her own means.

Xroah approached. 'Take a breath... Don't worry. He likely tripped something and overreacted... I'll investigate, keep working on breaking the program. We have to hurry!'

Kiron nodded. Right... He might just be avoiding another trap.

Kiron continued her typing. The program wouldn't be able to hold them off for much longer.

A small black object pierced Kahtyo's false reality, and in response, he shut down his link with the others, fearing it to be a trap.

Sure enough, the program had successfully attached a virus to his being.

The hole it made was quickly patched up before anything else happened.

He stared at it for a moment, trying to keep it from continuing with its course of action. This failed.

A copper chain launched at him, and his response was to defend himself; he held his arms in fornt of him, but the chain ended up  wrapped around his wrist, limiting his abilities.

'Nononono...' he muttered, fear in his eyes and expression. He tried to pry it off and regain his movement. Not happening.

"Still not down?" Skorr asked from the comms.

"No. Xroah and I think Kahtyo ran into a trap. We're still arranging for confirmation. He shut everything down, but still has control..."

"Do we need to abort?"

"No."

"Vehtel." He wanted them to look at the other aspects too, not just at their determination and want to fulfill their task.

"Fine. Give us a bit."

Xroah tried to reach out to him. He timidly allowed his reality to come back into hers. Her image stood in front of him and held his hand.

A weak connection was established, just to be safe. She now knew what had happened.

'Kahtyo, just relax... Keep it from doing anything. Don't let it get to you...'

He closed his eyes and nodded, breathing deeply.

He wasn't good at dealing with real emotion like this. With Xroah's assistance, he was able to remember how things should be handled. He carefully sat down, looking at the black oblong object pulsating with a copper glow.

'Should we abort the mission?' She asked, holding his hand to calm him. 'Focus on probability. On the situation. Don't let that thing obstruct your view.'

He once again nodded.

The situation became clear, running in the background.

'The odds are against us. The group has made mistakes, more so than predicted. The facility did not live up to expectations. We should abort, and hope that we did not reveal too much.'

'Okay. Kahtyo. Stay calm. Stay safe. Please, keep in touch if you can.' She knelt down and kissed his cheek before fading from direct view.

"We should abort the mission." Kiron gave her confirmation through comms.

"That's what we were all thinking. Abort mission via protocol 3. be careful Vehtel."

"Will do." Kiron stood and set up a black box, placing it right on the tablet.

'Guess we'll have to find an easier target...' Kiron mumbled.

'Or maybe just one that's less prepared.' Xroah replied.

Xroah relayed the information necessary to get them out of here.

They soon teleported away.

Kahtyo sat down, staring intently at the object. It had activated, and now had but one goal; take control over his being. He was able to hold it at bay, but that was now all he could do.

It was scary. It left him powerless. Fearful. Only Xroah's support kept him calm.

Skorr would try to get it the hell out soon. Once he set things up, and once the doctor took care of the burn he had received. They hadn't expected a plasma weapon from mere security guards at a small facility.
