One word prompts

The large clap of thunder woke Aloë from her sleep. Her eyes opened, wide with fear. The sound of the thunder had sounded so close, like it could hit her at any moment. Seconds later, a flash of lightening nearly blinded her, making her close her eyes in protection for just a second. She sat up and gathered up all her blankets, pushing them into the corner of her bed. Hiding under the pile and closely snuggling into them, Aloe tried to muffle the scary sounds. She wanted to hide away from them, even more she wanted to cling to someone who could protect her, but Aloë never had the courage to run off and find her keeper. It was her secret, one that kept her up all night when it stormed outside. She couldn't tell anyone, though. If she couldn't face this fear by herself, how was she supposed to be able to care for others? No, this would be her little secret.
