Do You Hear That? | July 2020 (by BrynLison)

Raziel didn't know where he was now, the landscape had all but blended together in the night, the only thing that remained a constant was the red star pulsing bright and angry over him. He had lost Rabbit's trail a long way back but he hand kept going in the same direction hoping to pick it back up. He wasn't sure where exactly he was but he was starting to see dead and charred patches in the ground. Had he really walked all the way to the charred plains already? The chestnut forest stallion stopped and looked around, the ground was giving way to charred dead lands. He had indeed found his way to the charred plains and with that knowledge, every muscle in his body tensed and he stepped carefully now. His eyes swept the ground until he saw hoofprints. They looked fresh, his nose went to the ground as he took in a breath. It was. He followed the prints, unsure of just what and where Rabbit thought she was going. The prints were becoming staggered and he could tell she must have been getting tired. He came to a steep hill and could see where Rabbit had slid down through the soot and ash. He saw her then, walking around a long dried lake bed, staggering really as she seemed to be wandering aimlessly. Raziel felt a rumbling before he heard it, he saw the ground starting to rise from the middle of the lake. Rabbit was looking now too and a skeletal leg and shoulder pushed through to the surface. The ghoulish creature was a sight to behold as it clawed its way from its used to be watery resting place. Its empty eye sockets pulsed with red light as its eyes locked onto Rabbit. She screamed and Raziel raced down the slope as fast as he could as the ghoul chased down the creamy steppe mare. Raziel collided with the ghoul and knocked it over, sending it tumbling into a few pieces. The ghoul pulled itself together as Raziel stoof defensive of Rabbit when the ghoul screeched at them "DO YOU WORSHIP THE FALSE GODS!?" Raziel was confused but the ghoul was quickly pulling itself together to attack again. Raziel rushed over and with all his strength kicked the head from the ghoul's skeletal neck which sent it flying and rolling across the ashy ground. The light in the ghoul's eyes dimmed to nothing and Raziel gulped. There was definitely something evil about this star..

Author's Notes

The ground rumbles underneath your Ballator’s hooves. An Earthquake?? No.

Clawing its way out of the ground is the ghoulish skeleton of  what was once a mountain Ballator. They are nothing more than old, stained bones– bones littered with the glowing red buds of the Star Touched.

Adorning the head of the Ghoul is a Bone Crown, the only callback to the Ghoul’s previous life. It shakes its head, seeming almost annoyed that it was woken up from death. The Ghoul glances once at your Ballator, before starting to turn away.

It might have been your Ballator’s imagination, or a trick of the light, but the Red Star in the sky pulses brighter and the Ghoul stops on it’s cracked hooves as it seems to listen. Slowly it turns its head around and, with blank eye sockets, attempts to stare your Ballator down.

In your Ballator’s head, a mix of booming voices asks:

DO YOU WORSHIP THE FALSE GODS?

The Ghoul doesn’t give your Ballator a chance to reply as the Red Star pulses and urges it to attack, giving your Ballator only seconds to respond.

- Depict your Ballator's reaction to the Ghoul's odd question and depict your Ballator escaping or defeating the sudden attack.
