Twelve-year old Sakura sets off with her loyal dog companion Ramzee to slay a sea monster.

Written in 2011 for an English class. It's basically an earlier written version of the Silver Serpent comic I drew in 2012. Many things are different in this version, namely that "Marou" is called "Xastia" and the ending. I definitely consider the comic to be the canon version of the story, but II find it interesting that I visited this story a few times. Re-reading this years later is very embarrassing for me but I'm posting it anyways.

Written in 2011. Very embarrassing.

What could be lurking in the dark depths of the sea? Can one even  describe such creatures? That's exactly what young Sakura wondered all  her life. In the mysterious land of Xastia all sorts of creatures roamed  the mysterious forests and seas.

Sakura desired to observe all  forms of life, whether it's a small rodent like creature or a dangerous  beast. If the Empress had anything to say, it would only be complains  about trade ships not returning. The only news around the cobblestone  palace was about strange disappearances at sea, and as a daughter of a  worker there, Sakura decided to take action.

She strolled to her  older sister Rose who was busy learning about medicines for diseases. "  Rose, I've decided to journey far out on the sea to discover new  monsters!" she happily stated.

Rose seemed shocked at this foolish  statement. "Sakura, you're only 12 years old! You can't just go sailing  to find sea monsters!" Rose scolded.

"Nonsense." said Sakura, "I'll bring my dog and a sharpened sword."

Despite Rose's warning, Sakura hurried outside to her dog, Ramzee, who  as a blue talking dog like creature. "We're going sailing for monsters  Ramzee!" she sang joyfully.

Normally, Ramzee would be surprised by  this, but believe or not this behavior was becoming regular for Sakura.  He sighed and said, "Fine, let's go."

They borrowed a wooden boat  from the deck and set sail on the salty blue sea. There was a strong  breeze coming from the north, and there were few clouds in the sky. They  sailed until they could see no land and only endless water.

They  saw fish leap out of the water and birds fly above in the sky. Sakura  watched the birds feathers float down to the water where they'd hang on  the surface above the sea life.

Soon it was dark out and they had to  stop for the night. The moon was full and bright and the stars lit up  the sky. They went in the cabin part of the boat for the night to sleep.

Soon after they fell asleep there was a deafening noise on the deck. It  was like someone had thrown a massive piece of glass on the deck and it  shattered everywhere. Sakura woke up frightened and decided to  investigate. She peaked out to see what looked like a cat sized snake  with stubby legs and a fan like tail. It had light pink antennas and  completely smooth skin. What ever it was, it was stealing their food.

Sakura ran over to Ramzee and woke him up. "Ramzee! There's some  creature stealing our food!" she whispered with fear. "Well go stop it."  he said not even getting up. She sighed and quickly thought of a plan.  She would lure the serpent off with food and then take the food in the  cabin.

She sneaked around so it wouldn't see her and she grabbed a  salmon and tied a string to the fish's tail. She then tried slowly  luring the creature the creature off the boat. Right when she thought  her plan was working, the creature saw her and said, "Really now, you  don't really expect to get rid of me like that do you?"

Sakura jumped back with shock. "Y-you t-talk?" she asked surprised and scared.

The serpent grinned, "Why of course. What did you expect, a shark that can breath air?'

"Well, who ever you are, stop stealing our food!" demanded Sakura. She  didn't understand this creature. It lived in the wild, but thought it  could socialize with a civil person like her? "Do you even know who I  am?" asked Sakura with doubt. "I'm Sakura of Xastia, my parents work for  the Empress herself."

The serpent grinned deviously, "Like I care what the Empress has to say. I am Silvia, a monster of the sea."

"Monster?" asked Sakura. "You're nothing more than a puny serpent!"

Suddenly with no warning what so ever, Silvia flew up in the sky and  transformed into a larger version of herself. However, now she had about  40 sharp fangs and was at least ten times bigger. Sakura stood there  frightened at the new size of Silvia. "Do you think I'm a monster now  Sakura?" she roared.

Ramzee jolted out of the cabin to see what was happening outside. "Good heavens, what's happening out here?!" he asked.

Sakura shuttered with fear, "The thief is a sea monster!" Why had she  been so foolish to look for sea monsters?  This could become their  demise. "I have to think of something quick!" she thought.

Silvia  slapped her massive tail against the water. It resulted in a great wave  heading to the boat. Sakura acted quickly and got in the life boat with  Ramzee and some food. "Smart thinking.' he said. "Yeah, but that doesn't  solve the sea monster problem." she stated.

Then Sakura realized  something, Silvia was only attacking them because she was hungry. If She  hadn't stopped the serpent out of selfishness, they won't be in this  mess.

"Wait, Silvia!" she shouted, "I'm sorry, you can have our  food." She hoped the serpent would accept this offering for forgiveness.

"You're not trying to trick me are you Sakura?" Silvia roared.

"Of course not." Sakura stated, "I wouldn't try to trick someone as majestic as you." She giggled at her creative language.

"Such kindness you suddenly have Ms. Sakura." Silvia said has Sakura gave her the rest of their food.

"So Ramzee, do you think the Empress will believe this story?" Sakura questioned happily.

Ramzee sighed, "Knowing her, she'll doubt it like your other stories, but that doesn't mean she won't believe it.

Silvia grinned as she shrunk back to size, "I'm sure the Empress wouldn't doubt a heroine like Sakura."
