Sudden Attack - Dire Days Extra 1

Coming over the next rise, the storm on it's way as they were climbing up to the base. The feeling of being watched continued to follow the group as they came over another rise, no sign yet of the eyes that were watching them. Hyoga was starting to settle down now, ignoring the feeling and hoping that it would soon pass and leave them alone. Caelas was really agitated now though, not comfortable and hoping to find the source to get rid of it, he would not settle until the feeling was gone, unlike his pack-mates. He glared at the rocks around them, watching them for any movement, anything at all, though the increasing wind prevented him from seeing very well and very far, blowing snow around in his line of sight. A flash of tan fur finally caught his eyes though and he let out an angry howl as the shape vanished behind another rock, following them, studying them before it made it's move to attack, but he had finally spotted her as she slunk around. A piercing yowl soured through the sky as a sudden shape charged them, claws out, teeth showing and eyes filled with fire and a look to kill. It flew smoothly through the air straight at Shokou where he sat on Hyoga, so fast that Hyoga was unable to stop the flying creature from knocking Shokou off until it was too late. Shokou was stunned by the sudden attack leaning in the direction opposite the cougar, he partially fell off from unbalance, partially knocked off by the large cat and the force it held. Her claws did not pierce his thick coat though, the insulation cushioning the attack and preventing the claws from reaching Shokou's skin, though this was also due to the strange angle caused by him falling out of the saddle. It hissed as it hit the ground, landing on it's paws, but soon falling onto it's side, sending up a puff of snow. Through the snow the cougar leaped again, this time going for the nearest tokota, Shaka. He did not seemed to realize he was being attacked at first, but the claws flying towards him kicked him into gear. Shokou leaped up and pulled the ropes free to allow Caelas and Shaka to move, as well as Hyoga. Shaka lifted his front legs into the air, flinging the cougar into some rocks nearby. The cougar yowled in pain, hissing at the black tokota who was now on his toes and ready to fight, he would not put up with allowing a cat to attack him. Hyoga was the first to charge though, pouncing forward with great speed, and sliding to a stop, sending snow up in a great cloud to blind the cat. the cat hissed as snow got into his eyes and he leaped into the cloud.

Howls and hisses were flung into the air as the two tussled in the light snow, kicking and biting at each other, the cougar digging her claws into the thick fur of the tokotas, but unable to get them deep enough to do too much damage. Hyoga slipped, falling over as the cougar lashed at his face, making him dodge to the side. The cougar leaped forward, arms wide to get her claws into his face, but he kicked out his his hind legs, hitting her in the gut and sending her flying back into the snow. Shokou rushed to grab a large stone, ready to throw it if needed as he watched his tokotas fight the cat, wishing that he could do more to help them out. The cougar leaped out of the way as Caelas pounced, eyes looking as if he wanted to kill the creature that had been driving him crazy for many miles. He missed and the cougar hooked his cheek with her claws, making his howl in pain and leap back. He growled even louder, charging forward again and not caring about the claws. All he saw was red. He pushed back the cougar, forcing her to back up more and more until Shaka and Hyoga were right behind her. Shaka had calmed down and left the attacking to Hyoga, who rushed forward, leaping onto the back of the cougar. The cougar growled as she felt the large weight on her back, she tried to fling it off, but found it was too heavy and she fell to the ground. Hyoga pinned her down and placed a paw on her head, preventing her from biting. She hissed, her eyes filled his fire and anger as she struggled, trying to free herself from the weight of the tokota. he lowered his head, wrapping his jaw around her neck and holding it there. It was soon over and she was laying there, still and quiet. Hyoga pulled away, looking down at the attacker, feeling kinda sad that he had to kill her. He looked up at Shokou, waiting to find out what to do. The handler sighed and he dropped the stone he was holding, walking over to his tokotas. He looked down at the cougar, then knelled next to her, looking her over and running his hands through her soft fur. He went over to Shaka and pulled a tarp from one of the bags, wrapping the cougar in it and tying it closed so that the cougar would not fall out. He did not wish to leave such an amazing fur there and decided that he could skin it and keep the fur when he got to the base. He lifted up onto Caelas' back, trying it down to keep it in place and moving a couple bags onto Shaka to even out the weight they were carrying once again. He looked to the sky, and then looked at Hyoga as he tied Shaka's lead shank back up to the saddle Hyoga was wearing.

He looked back at the tarp wrapped cougar one last time and sighed before he mounted back into the saddle, sad they they had to kill the creature and waste time when they could be gaining more ground before the storm hit. He picked them up into trots, wanting to hurry to the base. Caelas slowed them down though. The weight was still not even, the weight on Caelas was still too great compared to the weight that Shaka and Hyoga were carrying. More time was taken as he stopped, removing a few more bags and attaching them to the back of his saddle, deciding that Hyoga would help share some of the weight of the supplies. The ropes holding the cougar were adjusted according to what was taken off and he checked to make sure that it would not fall off or out of the tarp. In the saddle again they picked up the pace. Soon the weather started to worsen and he passe by a place that could provide shelter, but he decided that he needed to try and make it to the base, he continued up the slope and over the next rise, the weight on the tokotas was evened out and they were moving much quicker, but they did not seem to be moving quick enough. The snow started to fall, and the wind picked up, slicing the air like knives. The storm was upon them and it was too late to run for the safety of the valley, or to try and find a place to hide. They had to keep moving through the storm.
