Chapter 2

After a serious showdown between Devin and the main coordinator of Ikaika's shelters, everything ended and the K9 bomb went off. The bomb was said to spread an illness among all werecreatures to give them a slow and painful death. When Devin's friends took an authorization card off a staff member, they escaped through the door and ran to Devin, who was lying on the ground. The commander was dead. There was a gaping bite wound on his neck, presumably that came from Devin.  Then, Jack appeared out of the sandy mist of the day. His friends were bewildered. Now, he had a large scratch scar on his stomach, and was nude. He walked over to Devin with something in his hand. Then he crouched down and looked his friends in the eyes. He held up a syringe with a long needle, and red-orange liquid inside it. "Inject this into his body. It'll fix him up good." What he held was a vaccine for the disease that the K-9 caused. His friends stared. "Hurry! He doesn't have much time.." Devin was curled up on the ground, barely breathing with a bloodied face and mostly ripped clothes, and coughing up a great deal of blood. His blood-soaked hair stuck to his face and covered his eyes. His friends hurried and took the syringe. "W-Where do I inject it?" Frantically asked the one holding the syringe. "Anywhere, hurry!" He stuck the needle into Devin's neck. "...Don't worry, Devin, you're gonna be alright now." He pushed the plunger with his finger, and injected as much of the liquid as he could. He carefully took the syringe out. Devin soon lost consciousness. "He'll be awake again in a couple hours." Jack stood up. "It'd be best to get him to a patient room and let him rest." As he turned and began to walk away, one of his friends asked "But what about you? You've been infected too, right?" He kept walking and didn't look back. "I'll be fine, Devin's the one who needs it." The friend dropped the empty syringe and questioned him further. "But Jack, you'll die if you don't get more of the vaccine! .....Y-You've... got more, right?" By the time he got the question out of his mouth, Jack had already vanished behind the curtain of sand. His friends had no choice but to carry Devin back inside, past the crowd of people watching. They now understood the situation before them, Devin's scar being fully visible. But yet, they felt sympathy, and made way for him and his friends heading back into the shelter and into the hospital area. The four friends found an empty room and laid him onto the bed gently. The other three friends set up the bed for him and got everything set.

After he was all cleaned up, one of the friends, Haiti, who had medical experience, attached Devin to a heart monitor, IV, and oxygen machine. After that, Jason dismissed them, as they had fulfilled their goal and had other injured people to tend to. Out of his own worry, Jason stayed to watch Devin's condition, falling asleep as the day went on. Several hours later, night came, and Jack had returned to meet Jason in the patient room with a personnel outfit on. "How is he?" Jason jumped out of half-slumber. Jack looked over at him, who was sitting in a chair in the corner of the room. Jason wobbly stood up and made his way to the bed beside Jack. "He's doing better...I think. I haven't heard him cough anymore since so that's good." They both observed him for a minute. His breathing and heart rate were steady. He hadn't moved or shifted his position since he was put into the bed. Jack sighed of relief. "That's good.." He said, barely getting to end his sentence without a cough. Jason turned quickly to Jack as he started having some kind of attack. Then he remembered. Jack never had any of the vaccine, and the bomb effects were just hitting him! "Dude!" Jason exclaimed. Jack held his stomach and almost fell to the ground before Jason caught him. He had to leave the watch of Devin and take Jack to his own room. He ran and carried him to another empty room across from Devin's, and hastily put all the hookups on him. He held up his palms, ready to do anything else for his friend. He knew no other options, so he ran to the door, looked back, and shouted "I-Im gonna go find some more of that vaccine! You stay here-" Jack's nearly broken speech cut him off. "No, Jason." Jason stopped himself. "There is no more of the vaccine." Jason turned to Jack in shock and disbelief. He slowly stepped back to Jack's side. "What... What do you mean??" Jack gave no reply, and was now struggling to breathe, even with the oxygen machine.
