Magic


Magic is mysterious and yet alluring to the Kith. They acquire it over their lifetimes and expend it to protect themselves. Magic comes in different varieties--Flavors, which start out generic (Beast, Air, Water, Kithbody, Plant, Fungus, Energy, Mind, Earth) and become more specific over time. 

 Magic is found in ruins, within the flesh of arcane beasts, the corpses of other Kith, and the space planes.

As a spirit gains more magic, they may choose to either keep the various forms of magic they collect as a versatile but shallow performer, or concentrate their power on becoming a great magician in one field. With the former, they're able to use more kinds of magic, but the magic is more easily taken by rogue Demons; with the latter, the magic coalesces closer to the spirit, growing more specific but also exponentially more powerful.


There are four known ways for a spirit to gain more magic:

  • Hunting some down in the wild.
  • Being gifted magic, or taking it via trickery or consuming a defeated foe's essence.
  • Committing acts that spread your Stead, like a seaweed spirit planting a vast seaweed garden.
  • Gaining followers.
There are murals in the ruins of all four kinds of spirits that depict spirits exchanging and mutually gaining magic in some sort of complex dance, but nobody's figured out how to do that yet.
