Hellions are mortal-based species. In fact, they're nearly identical to mortals (exception of mixed genes) with one exception: they can transform into one creature, referred to as a "Hellion Form."
They live up to three hundred years usually, and have thinner skin and incredibly fast regeneration to help with shapeshifting. In fact, Hellions can regrow limbs. In one experiment, if the head is kept stable and machinery pumps blood for the brain, gets oxygen, etc, they can eventually regenerate their whole body!
OH ALSO AS AN ADD-ON-- animalborns happen as a mutation when the "default form" point isn't completely animal or human, but somewhere in between! all animalborns are hellions, and do have the ability to transform to human / full feral, however, this is similar to the energy used to be inbetween an animal and a human for a regular hellion... which is to say... exhausting.
Most Hellions grew up in the Hellion Kingdom, although animalborns are usually raised in the Crystal Jungle or Volcano Village.
