RACES

The term 'civilkind' refers to any sapient being on Earth, and is used as an umbrella term to refer to manassi (magical) races and homossi (non-magical) races. Today, there are only seven prime civil races- however there are many subraces of civilkind as well! Click the buttons above to learn more.

HUMANS

"Back to Basics"

Humans are thought to be the oldest race on Earth, predating the age of magic. Because of this, they are the only race that does not possess any natural magic, unless an individual is born as a majiphyte. While they may lack magic, humans are adaptable beings who have found ways to engage with the magical world around them. They are omnivorous mammals that follow a normal human lifecycle.

Attributes

Humans are not inherently magical, but may inherit magical abilities if they are related to a manassi or majiphyte by blood. A strong magic concentration in a human causes unique traits, such as horns, non-red oral pigmentation, claws, etc. Humans born in the kingdom of Burrosen can easily be distinguished by their pointed "elf" ears, a trait developed through out generations due to the large magic concentration in the underground kingdom. All humans who inherit magic abilities will develop fangs/enlarged canines, although fang growth may be stunted if said magical ability is supressed. Human majiphytes can only inherit primeval abilities, even if one of their parents is a manassi. Half-humans, however, do have a small chance of inherting a parent magical ability.

MUNI

"Down to Earth"

Muni are one of the largest living manassi, with an average height of 8 ft. They have a unique relationship with their magic, as they rely on magical flora and their spores in order to perform magical abilities. Many muni feel a intimate connection with nature because of this and can even sense changes in the environment like weather, magic, and the like. They are omnivorous mammals that follow a standard (human-like) life cycle, with young muni being referred to as 'pips'.

Attributes

The average munn will have a large and bulky body type, with thin builds being possible but rare. Muni have small, wide-set eyes with large irises that lack a visible pupil. Their hands are paw-like, featuring retractable claws and distinctive pads for better grip. During adolesence, muni grow horns that will eventually curl into themselves to form a swirled shape- though mutations may cause these horns to form into different shapes altogether. A standard munn will have rounded/cupped ears and a cool-colored complexion, often green or blue.

As manassi, all muni inherit a form of natural mana unique to their species, although it may not always manifest into an ability. Thanks to their mana, muni have a chance to develop botanical magic. They are able to control plants to move and grow at unnatural rates, bloom, or even release their spores. Over-exertion of florakinesis may cause plants to wilt, so a munn most learn how to use their magic carefully to prevent unnecessary damage. Due to the magical properties of muni bodies, magical flora may begin to grow on a munn who frequently uses their magic, typically on their horns or in their hair.

Magic exists in a non-tangible form found in the air called mana. Mana is not visible until it is compressed through a spell or other magic-bending means. In order to use magic, mana must be absorbed, which is not necessarily hard or tiring especially for those who are naturally magical. The hard part is channeling the mana to do what is wanted, which takes a great deal of energy. Those who are naturally magical are capable of storing mana, and are therefore able to cast magic when mana is not found in the surrounding air. Mana, unlike other gaseous elements, does not fill up the space it's in entirely, and instead tends to cluster and leave empty spaces, making it hard for artificial magic users to gather mana at times. All modern magic can be classified into two categories, Natural and Artificial.

Magic is a mysterious energy found nearly everywhere in the world, from living beings to crystal formations. It can be used to cast spells, perform inherited magical abilities, enhance tools and technology, and so much more.

Despite it being so crucial to countless lives, not much is known about where magic originates from. The only reliable detail known about the beginnings of magic is that it didn’t always exist, and it changed the Earth drastically when it came to be. Written records from these times not only detail these events but describe a different, more powerful type of magic. This type of magic is known as ancient magic and is much different than the magic used today. Ancient magic was capable of much more things, but it was far too dangerous to use. In order to make magic safer, Queen Carmen enlisted the help of Sol to dilute magic using a spell, creating the modern magic widely used today.

DRAGONS

"Beasts of Habit"

Dragons are often considered the odd ones out of the organic civilkind, being vastly different from the others. For one, they favor a quadrupedal stance, with bipedal dragons being fairly uncommon. They are also the only living race that reproduces through magic rather than natural means. They're often regarded as very reclusive and snooty, due to the nature of ancient dragons and draconic society. While their diet depends on their subspecies, most dragons tend to be omnivores.

Attributes

Despite dragons only being able to reproduce with other dragons, they have a wide variety of traits throughout the different subspecies. From scales to feathers, and even fur- there's really no set "standard" to what a dragon looks like. In that regard, there are technically hundreds of different types of dragons. All dragons inherit natural magic that allows them to withstand extremely hot temperatures. Dragons are technically facultative bipeds, meaning they are able to take on a bipedal stance if needed/wanted, although most dragons prefer to stay on all fours as that is what they're accustomed to. Dragons don't have much of a need for clothes as they can be restricting and unflattering on a quadrupedal build. They tend to prefer smaller accessories like shawls, jewelry, etc. Bipedal favoring dragons are more likely to wear clothes as there are more options readily available for them.

Ancient dragons were much larger than their current counterparts, with the average height of ancient dragons being around 50 feet. Their natural mana was much stronger, allowing them not just to withstand extreme temperatures, but granting them the ability to breathe fire. Over generations, this mana has weakened, causing modern dragons to be much smaller and lose their pyrokinesis. Many "traditional" dragons blame the loss of their magic on societal change, and model their lives after the ancients in an attempt to regain their magic. Ancient dragons were immortal but only a handful are still alive today, residing in draconic hollows due to their immense size. These draconic hollows are essentially gated dragon communities that were created by the ancient dragons to better accommodate their size and to keep non-dragons out. These hollows are still home to many dragons, although the architecture has changed to fit the standard size for a modern dragon.

MAGICBORN

"It Came From the Beyond!"

Magicborn are less of a species and more of an umbrella term for the few non-organic sapient species that inhabit Earth. These groups vary greatly, but all share one origin and similar functions. Magicborn are the closest thing to living magic, their forms ranging from intangible to almost organic. They do not produce offspring and tend to live indefinitely, depending on what they are.

Attributes

Magicborn only have incredibly vague memories prior to their "birth", describing their time as non-sapient magic like having a dream you know you had but can't remember. They don't experience bodily needs like organic civilkind do, having no need for air or normal food- although many magicborn (mostly familiars) like to eat just for fun/taste. Magicborn do need to sleep, but not as often as mortal beings do, with most only needing to sleep once a month.

With the exception of some older/ancient types, magicborn are created with the help of an organic being. Most develop a familial bond with their "summoner", especially familiars, and rarely leave their side. It's rare to see a magicborn who doesn't travel alongside a mortal being. Those who are solitary tend to live in rural areas or in covens, as it can be hard to find work as a lone magicborn in an urban area. Unfortunately, there are many places that will refuse service to magicborn unless they have a mortal accompanying them, as people tend to see them more as beasts or tools rather than people.
