Batasuna | The Union

Batasuna, originally named Ah'eedah, was founded by a very talented toskal. Her name was Ah'eedah, and so she named her tribe after herself. Soon after settling into her home, she gave birth to twin girls. One was very smart and kind, giving her patience to all who crossed her path. The second sister was rough and brutal, and won her trophies with teeth rather than words. Even though the two sisters were nothing alike, they still loved each other and waited until their chance came to rule the tribe. When the time came and Ah'eedah passed away, the two sisters then realized that the tribe did not wish for the two to rule side-by-side. Many of the scarred and warrior-like toskals decided that they did not want a weakling like the first sister to rule over them. Likewise, the intellectually gifted toskals did not want a brute-ish queen. Without the calm and experienced Ah'eedah to calm the masses, tensions grew. Many called for the twins to fight to the death, while others demanded a contest of wits. Neither could satisfy the other. Feuds broke out between families, destroying bonds and causing fights. Suddenly, deaths began to pop up. Less common, at first, but then the body count began to multiply. The sisters, in distress at this, finally decided on what to do. The two split up, taking their respective families and moving quite a distance away. This was done to avoid further death and to satisfy their people.

Once moved, everything seemed to work smoothly. The warriors hunted game in their forest and the intellectuals found peace in the hills. However, warriors died from infection, broken bones, and diseases; intellectuals struggled to hunt enough game and defend themselves from the treacherous world. It was then that the toskals realized how foolish they had been so long before. They knew then that they needed to rely on one another. However, many of the older toskals were still too stubborn to return back to their missing half. And so, many more died. It wasn't until the first sister died that anybody had any inclination to speak to the other half. A messenger was sent out, informing the second sister of the death of her twin. Grief struck her like a spear. She felt more alone then than she had in all her life. This sister decided that enough was enough; she would not stand by any longer while her and her sister's people died at the hands of foolishness. After many talks, many compromises, and her sister's funeral, the two tribes finally became one again.

They called it Batasuna, which is Basque for The Union. Today, the tribe is ruled by two leaders, one for the intellectuals and another for the warriors. Coincedentally, (or perhaps not), the tribe's current leaders are also twin sisters. Capirinha is in charge of the intellectuals, and she rules with a fair but firm stance. Jade is the ruler of the warriors, and nothing escapes her eye. While they control the big decisions and work, they are aided by a group of 4 elders, 2 from each side of the tribe. The elders do the general policing, as they help solve disputes and dissolve tensions. Under their joint leadership, the tribe has flourished and will continue to do so until the end of their days.

This tribe is fairly religiously driven. They worship the stars, though in particular, the constellations. Even the dullest of toskals in this tribe can point out various constellations. It is believed that when each toskal dies, they leave behind a constellation. If this constellation is prayed to and worshipped regularly, then it is believed that the toskal behind the constellation will gift the warrior with the traits of their past. The founding twins left behind the big and little dipper, and so they are prayed to in order to obtain their power and knowledge, as well as their fairness and loyalty.
