「LORE」
"The Voices of the Sea"
Long ago, before the arrival of terrestrial organisms, all creatures lived in the ocean. However, back then, none of the creatures possessed any voices so the 'Sea' very was silent and lonely. Yearning for company, the first Serein was born from the sand on the shores, the coral from the reefs and the fish bones buried in its depths. Through it's glass bone tail, the creature was able to create the loveliest of tunes - they became the voices of the sea. However, not only were they the first creature to have music, Sereins were also able to gift voices to the other sea creatures. The 'Sea' was no longer silent nor lonely, it now had a symphony of melodies to keep it company.
「WORLD & SOCIAL」
The central city, 'Primus', where majority of towns and markets occur is located in the centre of the Bermuda Triangle. The area is heavily protected by the 'Sea' as it was where Sereins first originated from. Sereins consider this zone a 'safe zone' where they can seek refuge, rest and trade without conflict. Sereins who live on land, are also able to live with human communities.
All Serein have different and unique personalities, however they all share the same innate love for music and the 'Sea'. They are also able to compose music together, but that is an intimate act only reserved for family members, partners or close friends. When composing music in groups or with a partner, Sereins will wind their tails together. This type of collaboration in composing allows for more detailed and unique melodies.
Sereins are able to communicate to humans through speech if they have learn the skill. However, if underwater, a Serein's speech will sound more like chitters and whistles to humans. They can also use certain tunes as signals/signs. These tunes are developed between individual Serein communities (much like languages and dialects).
Serein communities under the sea can vary from being larger groups (like a tribe) to small families. In order to form alliances or relationships with other communities, Sereins rely upon trading knowledge and goods. These mutually beneficial relations assist Sereins in maintaining peace amongst the different communities. All Serein groups have one 'Alpha' and their second in commands, 'Beta'. The "Alpha" title is given to a chosen Serein by the 'Sea', which is both an honour and a heavy responsibility - their role is to protect and serve their group's less-abled (children/elderly/disabled etc). The "Beta" title, however, is given to another Serein by the Alpha. Their role is to carry on the Alpha's duties if the Alpha is unable or to assist. For example, if a Serein group is threatened by a predator, all the able-bodied Sereins will go out to scout the danger, while the Alpha and Betas escort the less abled to a safer location.

Sereins possess a glass tail that is reminiscent of a flute. The glass, although is flexible, can break easily when force is applied, hence they are quite skittish and will usually keep their distance from other unknown creatures. The holes in their tail allow them to create music. Sereins will compose specific tunes with their tail to also 'Gift' other creatures a melody. Music created by their tails or ears are refered to as 'Singing'.
The holes in their tail are usually circular in shape (✦) however, non-circular shaped holes (✦✦) and mismatched shaped holes (✦✦✦) allow for a larger range of notes and sounds to be played by the Serein. Cracked tails (✦✦✦) can cause the notes the Serein plays to become slightly off-tune at times (always too flat or too sharp). Sereins with broken tails (✦✦✦✦), also dubbed the 'voiceless', are unable to play any music at all. Broken tails also inhibit the Serein from 'singing' with the other Sereins, often causing pity and sometimes isolation. The state of the ears will also often match that of the tail and their coral horns.

Mismatched Holes is where a Serein has two or more different shaped holes (e.g. ❤ and ✚ shaped holes). Note: there is no rarity for the bone tail length and bone tail spines.

The spines of the ear bones can vary in shape and size (✦). One ear bone is ✦ and two ear bones are ✦✦✦. If the ear bone has a skull attached or another special design then it is ✦✦✦✦. Note: the second example is of a single ear bone (✦) that is uncontrollably growing out of broken glass ears (✦✦✦✦).
Serein ears are hollow glass and have bones that grow in them. The bones within the glass ear are extremely sensitive to vibrations in the air and water, helping Sereins to 'hear', whilst the glass ear acts as a small buffer. If the glass ear is broken, the bone can often grow out of it, hence 'voiceless' Serein/those with broken glass ears are actually a lot more sensitive to tunes and music. This can be both a blessing and a curse because they are able to compose the music more intricately but are unable to play the tune themselves. So these 'voiceless' Serein will often end up transferring the composed tune to be played by another.

「MUSIC & GIFTING」
A Serein's music has two purposes: to be gifted to another creature, or to affect a creature. Their music can 'reach' the souls of all living things, by either directly intertwining with the soul during 'Gifting' or to incite a response from the soul. Sereins can manipulate emotions and even heal through using their music to interact with souls. It is heavily frowned upon to use music to cause conflict, such as inciting all-consuming anger, misery or vengence, and these practices are forbidden.
The gifting is only able to occur when the Serein transforms their arm into glass. This is a vulnerable action, because if the glass arm shatters, the Sereins themselves 'shatter' and disappear as well. However, the more times they 'gift' the less brittle and fragile their arm becomes. When a Serein is not 'Gifting' their can retract their glass arm form and all that remains on their skin is a bone tattoo.
Sereins with two tattoos (one on each hand) are both revered and feared. These Serein are often referred to as the "Blessed". Their second tattoo gives them the ability to take away a voice from it's owner, and the transformed glass arm is 'blackened' at the tips which will increase if the Serein uses that arm repeatedly. But because they have two glass arms, the arms are twice as fragile. Like normal Serein, the glass arm that gifts is able to become less fragile the more the Serein uses it, however it will be at the cost of weakening the other arm, and vice versa. If a "Blessed" Serein takes voices until their gifting arm breaks, they won't actually 'shatter' and disappear like normal Serein. This is due to them still possessing a glass arm, despite it being the one that takes voices, but they will go mad. These Serein are to be shattered on sight if they have not died from their madness.

「EYE」
The eye on the Serein's smaller tail fin are able to 'see' their own musical signatures. It can detect creatures who were given voices by them, however will not be able to distinguish the musical signatures of other Serein. Sereins will 'see' a glowing essence surrounding the creatures that they have gifted voices to. The eye birthmark on their body is more like a tatoo which does not have a function, and it can be located anywhere on the body.
