YUMENARI LORE: CLOUD PETS
WHAT ARE THEY?
CLOUD PETS are manifestations of excess magic and miasma created in the Cove. While they are sentient, it is only to the extent of an animal in the Human Realm. They do not have the same level of intelligence or sapience as a human or a Yumenari, and they are not capable of speech or complex thought patterns. However, they are capable of carrying out simple tasks, and can be given small jobs by their owners.
Unfortunatly, Cloud Pets cannot exist outside of the Cove. While they do not need to eat, drink, or sleep; they must be surrounded by the magic of the Cove in order to continue to exist. If they are brought out of the Cove, they will soon dissipate into nothing. Common Cloud Pets would dissipate within minutes, while legendary pets may last up to an hour. However, any amount of time out of the Cove is painful and distressing to pets, even traumatizing, and not recommended, even if they can survive it.
They can also be created purposely by the Gods or by powerful Yumenari with many tails when they release a great amount of magic. However, pets can also come into being randomly in an area that is saturated with magic, without anyone directing the process. There is no real difference between the two, except that when a God or Yumenari directs the process, they can control the shape, size, and color by the amount of power they put into it, as well as sheer willpower. As well, a pet created by a Yumenari will be loyal to that Yumenari, while a wild pet, while friendly, must still be given time to form a relationship with a Yumenari before they are willing to follow them.
CLOUD PET LIFE CYCLE
CLOUD PETS CANNOT DIE OF OLD AGE and can only be destroyed by being forcibly separated from the magic of the Cove or by choosing to return to the magic, much like Yumenari themselves.
Despite this, this doesn't mean that they'll never leave their Yumenari friends. Nothing is forever, and many Cloud Pets often choose to move on, whether it’s to find a new purpose in life or to start their own family of Cloud Pets by adopting those that have been newly born from the Cove’s magic. While each Yumenari’s relationship with their Cloud Pet are unique and special, many of them are fleeing in the first place, wandering from house to house, and friends with everyone!
So a Yumenari may be bittersweet to see their friend go, they know that they will always remember them and might see them again someday.
FERAL CLOUD PETS ?!
ONTOP OF MOUNT NEMURI, Cloud Pets are percieved differently by the Delusions than by the rest of the Cove. Known as Miasma Fiends, they are often seen as pests, despite being the same species as our beloved Cloud Pets; stealing food, getting in the way, playing pranks, and generally causing trouble all around… much like the Delusions themselves! While some Delusions might form an alliance or acquaintance with the creatures, they never really called them "friends" until coming into the Cove at large and mingling with the Yumenari there.
