YUMENARI LORE: DELUSION YUMENARI
DELUSIONS?! WHAT ARE THEY?
DELUSIONS are a newly discovered type of Yumenari that have been living on top of Mount Nemuri for millenia! Somehow, they've managed to escape notice from the rest of the cove for centuries, using their powerful and ancient arcane magics. These Yumenari, unlike their counterparts, do not deliver either dreams or nightmares. Instead, these mischievous and even sometimes malicious beings give lucid dreams, daydreams or even sleep paralysis. As many Delusions hate humans, they tend to make these visions as unsettling as possible...
Delusions are formed of a mix of clouds and miasma, much like Nemuri herself was, but they are formed of the most potent Miasma in the cove. They do not need masks to survive the Miasma, and the Miasma where Nightmares live has no effect on them.
They think of themselves as different than the rest, and most think of themselves as being better than the others in the Cove. They don't even call themselves Yumenari, though they are the same species! They disdain the way Yumenari are obsessed with humanity, who they think extremely lowly of. Even Delusions who feel sympathetic towards normal Yumenari still tend to think negatively of humans... These Yumenari are like polar opposites of their counterparts in the Cove!
Unlike normal Yumenari, they do not have decoration traits, as they disdain humanity. Instead, their traits are a result of their extremely powerful miasma leaking out, leading to strange growths, markings, and spectral images appearing on and around them. These Yumenari also take much longer to gain more tails, as their Miasma is already so powerful that it takes a much larger amount of buildup to give them extra tails. They are also generally much, much older than normal Yumenari. This means that even if a Delusion only has two tails, they may be as old as 500 years old already!
DELUSIONS AND NEMURI...?
DELUSIONS ARE EXCEPTIONALLY RARE YUMENARI, as they are the children of the sleeping Goddess of all Yumenari, Nemuri. Nemuri makes them herself on the rare occasions she is awake, and Delusions, like cloud pets, can rarely be spawned from Nemuris' magic as she sleeps, forming themselves slowly from her excess magic.
They do not answer to any of the normal laws of the Cove; in fact, they answer directly to the goddess Nemuri, and won't listen to anyone else. Since each Delusion was personally handcrafted by her, there are much fewer of them than normal Yumenari, and they feel much closer to her than normal Yumenari feel to their own creators. Most Delusions even think of Nemuri as their mother! Perhaps that's why they're so eager to listen to her despite their contrary personalities.
Because these Yumenari are basically immune to the laws of the Cove, they are free to wreak havoc wherever they please. Because of their powerful hypnosis magic, even if humans witness their magic they can simply make them lose their memories of the event, which keeps the secret of the Cove safe. Of course, they would stop their actions if Nemuri asked them to, however, she seems to be in favor of the chaos. In fact, she encourages it!
She does seem to spoil Delusions quite a bit...
