DESCRIPTION:

Cetawings are a cetacean-based fanflight with long dolphin tails, fin arms, and small armored scales along their back & appendages. They communicate underwater via echolocation, thanks to their chest & tail concaves.

FAQ:

Who owns Cetawings? tobiano & fruitwolves co-own Cetawings together!

What’s the difference between Deepsea & Shore? Deepsea have more muscle, darker palettes, & gills to breathe underwater. Shore are typically colorful, sleek/lanky bodytype, & don’t have gills- they usually surface, instead!

How come the flight is so versatile regarding traits? We aim to have a flight where you can have fun designing & not need to pay for minor traits as well, like horns or pupil shapes- You simply buy a MYO, & you can design freely! We're strict on basic species anatomy though, which is fair.

Whats required on a Ceta, regardless of Type? Concaves on chest & tail, fins on their elbows, a dorsal fin, scales on their neck & limbs, & a cetacean tail. If Deepsea, they need gills. Horns, ears, & sail vary! Visual reference for Cetawing Biology.

LORE:

The Beginning

Cetawings came to Pantala unexpectedly, as the pod was simply migrating to their summer home when a tempest hit, stranding them on the shores of Pantala. Initially they needed a few days to recover their strength, they had every intention to move on once their flight had healed. However, the longer they remained on the new continent, the more they fell in love with it. Pantala provided plentiful sources of food, shelter in both land and sea, as well as a warm temperature their summer home did not. Paradise, the current pod leader, after speaking to his council and gathering public votes, decided it was best to stay there. As a tribe, they set off to look for a satisfactory area to call home.

They found their permanent home on a secluded coast, just off the Leafwing forest- hidden behind an ancient-looking cliff. Their urge for the ocean was undeniable; Slowly, they took to the water. As generations came and went, Cetas began exploring more of their new ocean home, venturing deeper and deeper into the depths. By this point, Paradise was long deceased. He was succeeded by Manta, his niece. Blood relations never guaranteed a spot as leader in Cetawing culture; Instead, they were decided by the tribe through a majority vote. Manta was only related to him by coincidence. She took the tribe down to a quiet, lonely trench, near an underwater volcano, in hopes of seeking out new material and a possible trade.

Slowly, the other Pantalans were becoming aware of their new neighbors. Manta foresaw the need for leverage, when the time came to formally introduce themselves. Eventually, a faction emerged who wished to return to the shore, as they became restless in the deep dark. They longed for the shining sun, and the sweet fruit that surrounded the beach. After appealing to Manta, they gained permission to resettle on the land above. A group led by a Ceta named Scylla took to the shore once again, only this time, it wasn’t abandoned as it once was before...

First Meeting

Upon reaching the surface, they were surprised to discover that the beach was now populated by an unknown group. They resembled the foliage that surrounded the shore, their scales varying shades of green, yellow, brown- and a few oranges. They were lanky in their limbs, and unfriendly in their gaze. Their eyes darting between the Cetas and the sea, with a hostile glare. Scylla was initially unsure of how to proceed, so she kept her tribe to the sea, waiting for the unknown dragons to make a move. Finally, almost a moon into their resurface, the new dragons finally approached them. A hatchling and it’s mother were playing with a hermit crab near the tidepools. Scylla was watching them with a careful eye, as they were the only members of her pod away from the main group.

As they were playing and lounging in the sought-after sun, a party of the new dragons approached them. They seemed non-threatening, but Manta put no faith in that, remaining the case. She rose from the water, backed by two other Cetas, to greet the presumed ambassadors. It was tense initially but, they became introduced. Leafwings, was what the tribe called themselves, and they seemed to open up to the Cetas fairly quickly. The following week, Scylla officially met with the Leafwing queen, who introduced herself as Queen Monstera. She was unordinarily kind to Manta, offering a trading relationship and even a possible alliance- if Scylla could provide a large enough army. Delighted at the premise, but slightly wary of it's intentions, Scylla thanked Queen Monstera, promising to consider her offer.

Back with her tribe, Scylla consulted her generals and advisors. They all agreed it was a fruitful opportunity, but, rather suspicious- considering the little the Leafwings would receive in return. After all, they were still far away from a streamlined society. The castle was half built, the new farming fields had only begun production, and the town located in the coral reef had only recently been finalized. As it stood, it looked like they could give the Leafwings nothing in return. The following day, Scylla returned to Queen Monstera prepared to forefit the deal. As one might have guessed, Queen Monstera was not interested in dropping the Cetawings, as they had something she wanted- They had access to the sea. In exchange for free trade between the tribes, the Leafwings offered protection and technology. Cetawings would provide them with military backup, ocean resources, exotic pets, and extraneous things like shimmery pearl dust. Scylla agreed to this deal, and their alliance prospered from then on.

The Hive & The Pod

Word of the new alliance between the Shore Cetawings & the Leafwings spread quickly- Manta had mixed emotions upon hearing the news; on one talon it was good Cetawings were welcomed by the neighboring tribe, but on the other talon, the Shoreside Cetawings were breaking away from the derrivative pod. Manta decided swiftly, that the Deepsea Cetawings needed an ally of their own- Recently, the Deepseas had cultivated a new metalworking ability. After having found metal & precious minerals around the underwater volcano nearby, they utilized the heat from the underwater vents to metalwork. Manta wagered that by using this new skill, the Deepsea Cetawings could barter an alliance. The only question remaining was- with who? After gathering information Scylla received from Queen Monstera, the Deepseas learned of the other Pantalan tribes- Silkwings, and Hivewings.

Hivewings seemed to be the best choice, as Silkwings were mostly peaceful and only interested in spinning their silk & chemistry. Hivewings, on the other fin, were fierce warriors, keen on expanding their territory & prowess. Manta had something they could use; Whereas the Silkwings wouldn't be interested in their weapons. Perhaps in the future, they could trade their minerals to them, which would benefit their knack for chemistry- But, until then, they'd stick to what they were best at. The only problem now was securing a meeting. Manta sent an emissary to the Hivewing kingdom. Angler, a petite and clever young messenger. He delievered Manta's message of peace, along with her trade proposition, to King Orbweaver, regent of the Hivewings in his mothers stead.

An In-Depth Look:

DEFENSE:

IMG_2274.jpg IMG_2274.jpg IMG_2274.jpg

Cetawings have 3 defense mechanisms- Their primary is their gleeking ability, followed by their double set of teeth & mastery of underwater combat.

They can shoot either a scalding, lukewarm, or freezing projectile of water to blind/harm an enemy- The temperature varies per dragon. They do this by storing water in a pouch in their throat, & heating it/freezing it with their body temperature. The average Ceta has sharp accuracy, & will often do this to blind/confuse an attacker. Cetas, like sharks, also have 2 rows of teeth in their mouth. They use these to further serrate & wound their prey/enemy. Their teeth frequently come out & re-grow, so Ceta teeth are a commonly used in their fashion. With not only their dorsal & tail fins, but also fins on their arms, they are swift & agile- By using their wings like a manta, and their fins for balance & speed: They're even more efficient than Seawings! Overall, they were designed to be lethal underwater.
