Festival of Lights

Sou's festival of lights is held a for a week every summer. The normally heavily lit cities of Sou all darken their lights together. It is a week of contemplation, of reflection, a time to spend with loved ones, to rest. Even the most busy most workaholic people take at least the last couple of days of the week off.

There are a variety of festival activities held throughout the week, mostly during the day and mostly run out of people's houses for their community to enjoy. Some host games, some organizes dances in town squares, many take the chance to cook big meals or experiment with food.

Night is seen as a time for small groups, family, friends, even strangers, gather togther under the gentle veil of darkness. They talk quietly, laugh loudy, and admire the night sky.

Shooting star sightings during the festival of lights are seen as fortuitous omens for the year to come, even more so when seen on the last night. Or rather - there are a complex set of rules that can be used to judge forture based on the sky each day of the festival of lights but most people only keep track of shooting stars.
