Mechanical Dolls

Mechanical dolls or, as they are more commonly called, clacks are the result of some of the most prominent inventors from Londael working together with witches to create hyper realistic humanoid dolls that could walk, talk, dance, sing, or really do whatever their owner wanted. The result of this ambitious experiment was not quite as the inventors envisioned. The dolls, who the inventors wanted only to be able to be confused for having a consiousness, quickly developed minds of their own. They expressed thoughts and took actions they were not instructed or built to do and, in some cases, even failing at the explicit tasks they were built for.

Mechanical dolls are still a new concept to the people of Beledrift and where they fit in human society is still uncertain. In Londael the inital excitment around them quickly wore off in the first years around their creation as investors and the general public realized the dolls were not the fantastical automotons of their dreams but more or less people... just slightly different. Focus moved onto other things. More recently a couple dolls have been gaining fame and sparking a renewed interest in the concept of artificially created life.

Notes

Sleep: Mechanical Dolls don't need sleep the way humans do but regular shut-down time keeps their mechanisms and magic running smoothly. Dolls can initiate this at will and don't need to be lying down or even particularly comfortable but each doll still usually has their own habits regarding it.
