Summary

Taken as a very young boy to join the First Order, Angel was deemed a complete success by his superiors. One of few troopers stationed to act as a full-time judicial enforcer, Angel not only takes care of needed executions, but also oversees high-risk interrogations and spends a majority of his time simply on patrol. While he enjoys the strict nature of his job, he is always yearning for more chances to go off-ship and take on a mission on the ground.

Angel is a very quiet and reserved man. Speaking is difficult for him, and his speech mannerisms reflect that. He is not one to taunt the condemned unless angry, and will dole out whatever punishment is ordered in a cold, clean manner. Despite being generally respected by both his subordinates and superiors, Angel is constantly stressed, and primarily exhibits that stress through clenching his teeth. He is particular about his surroundings, and acts meticulously in order to not throw himself off balance.

As was planned, Angel had effectively integrated his entire identity within the First Order. When things begin to destabilize (particularly with the destruction of Starkiller and the Supremacy), he begins to question his own sense of self. Turning himself in for reconditioning alleviated the stress some, but there is still that glimmer of fear in the back of his mind that everything could come crashing down...and that there is nothing he alone could do to control it.

Design Notes
  • Tall and balanced physique.
  • Hair is always buzzed close to his head.
  • Lip scar is actually a complete split.
  • Wears standard First Order executioner armor.
  • Wears Fedony's button-down shirts after the order falls.
  • The bags under his eyes are prada.
Background

EARLY CHILDHOOD | 11 ABY - 15 ABY
AN-6311 was born to a small communal society living within abandoned mines on a flyover planet in the Outer Rim. These mine-folk were a hardworking and generally self-sustaining society that valued contribution, law, and order above all else. Each member was identified based on what role they served in the community, so like all children, AN was referred to only as Child and was raised by the community at large. He was a restless boy who had not once spoken a single word, and was full of aggressive energy that he released by hitting and biting others almost indiscriminately. This fact clearly garnered concern from the adults in a world where the only source of peace was the strict upholding of a rigid legal code. Crime was not allowed to flourish, let alone exist at all.

Resources were becoming more and more scarce as the years went on, particularly in the form of medical supplies. On one morning in 15 ABY, a potential solution to their problems arrived in the form of a dark transport ship containing a few officers in well-tailored suits accompanied by armored soldiers. They offered to trade some much-needed supplies in exchange for children to induct into the stormtrooper training program. The mine-folk weighed the pros and cons, remembered their little "liability", and offered him (alongside two others) up for the exchange.

The child formerly known as Child was, for the first time, given a unique (if not unorthodox) designation--AN-6311. Every waking moment, the four-year-old was taught the ways of the First Order. His first words -- taken by force from the effectively non-verbal child not long after he was dragged from his home planet -- were "yes, sir." From an unruly mess of a toddler to a generally disciplined soldier-in-progress, AN-6311 seemed like a completely different person entirely. However his desire to be on the attack was still high, and those who supervised the stormtrooper program were very aware of this fact.

CHILDHOOD TO ADOLESCENCE | 15 ABY - 29 ABY
Focused and near-relentless efforts at psychological conditioning quickly began to have their effect on AN, as his superiors told him how much worse off he would have been if he were not taken under their wing. He began to deeply believe that he would have ended up murderous without their guidance, and that any life taken in the name of the First Order certainly wouldn't be the life of an innocent. Every word they said to him sunk far into his mind, warping his identity to fit the mold of what the First Order desired in a soldier. The boy had grown to become a machine.

YOUNG ADULTHOOD | 29 ABY - 34 ABY
AN quietly and efficiently completed his basic training , catching the eye of his superiors with his intimidating presence. He was one of a few stormtroopers selected for specialist training in interrogation and execution. While these were duties that were typically performed by standard stromtroopers on random assignment, it was determined that the existence of specialists would set an example for those who found themselves temporarily filling the role alongside them.

It only took a year for AN to officially finish this additional training at age 18. He worked at first to enforce the legal code on the Finalizer, primarily doling out minor punishments for minor crimes. The only executions he was directly involved in were performed on troopers who had completely snapped beyond repair under the rigors of the training program. Most of these deaths were covered up as training accidents.

Longing to take out a real traitor, AN was ecstatic to find out that he was placed on an away mission to kill a rogue lieutenant who had been selling information and modified weapons to the resistance. During this mission, it was revealed that XR-8548, a fellow trooper in his strike team was aiding the lieutenant. AN picked up on XR's unorthodox behavior, determined his part in the treason, and killed XR before completing the mission with the remainder of the team. His actions in this mission regarding XR were a large factor in earning him his promotion to corporal just a few months later.

The more missions AN was sent on, the more notoriety he accrued. He was silent, tactical, and brutal, eventually becoming known as "Angel" among fellow troopers because he is all too often the last thing a traitor sees before they die. Initially opposed to the nickname, Angel soon grew used to it, though his preferred form of address still remained his cumbersome serial number.

STARTING TO UNRAVEL | 34 ABY ONWARD
AN was stationed on the Supremacy during Holdo's hyperspace attack. While physically, he escaped with only moderate brusing and a few minor fractures, the sudden destruction of Starkiller and The Supremacy, as well as the death of Snoke, caused him to begin doubting the permanence of the First Order. This caused him a great deal of stress, which built up over the course of days before he broke down in front of Ashwill. Soon afterwards, after once again losing control during an interrogation, AN turned himself in for reconditioning, which seemed to do very little to abate his fears.

A few years later, after logistics colonel Fedony Procyon begins to notice that the First Order is at the point of no return, he is offered a position as her bodyguard and leaves the order alongside her and two other troopers. The sudden shift in circumstances was hard on AN, but over time he found his footing. He continues to act as Fedony's enforcer, slowly learning how to be his own person in the process.

Trivia
  • He prefers being addressed as AN-6311 (or even AN), but the "Angel" nickname has stuck and it won't seem to go away any time soon. He is getting used to it.
  • AN deals with a number of communication issues, finding it difficult to speak in most circumstances that aren't heavily scripted or rehearsed. Because of this, he doesn't talk often, nor does he talk loudly.
  • Angel gets jittery and even self-destructive if left without something to do for very long
  • Growing up, AN has been told by his superiors that without First Order intervention, he would have grown up to be worse than he is now. He believes them, of course, but the subject of what person he could have been if he weren't brainwashed into becoming a pawn for the First Order is very touchy for him. The possibility that he could have grown up to be OKAY is just too real for him to handle without challenging his programming.
  • On the surface, AN seemingly oscillates between periods of twitchy, nervous aggression and near-mechanical levelheadedness. In truth, he is easily irritated and is constantly losing his patience with others, but knows how to keep himself from acting rash until he needs to. Because of this, he has a tendency to clench his jaw (all of his molars are artificial because he has broken teeth in the past) and fidget with weapons, which becomes more overt when he is stressed.
  • AN enjoys extreme conditions and temperatures -- primarily the cold -- as they help him feel alive. He also runs to relieve stress.
  • AN is semi-verbal. Speaking is difficult for him and he tends to rely on memorized scripts to communicate easily.
