Profile

Physical Appearance

Pain's default appearance is identical to that of Neoka pre-TTofH, which is approximately the same as how Neoka normally looks except he hasn't cut his hair short yet. Pain also generally has a more malicious and smarmy demeanor to him, and Neoka tends to take a more serious and irritable demeanor when forced to interact with Pain, making it hard to mistake one for the other even though they are identical.

Clothing Style

Pain wears whatever outfit that Neoka happens to be wearing and isn't usually interested in dressing himself to stand apart from Neoka.

The only time Pain dresses differently is when he is wearing the garb of Shana's Death Rifters. (design TBD)

Personality

Abilities

  • Can Morph into anyone who has, is, or ever will be along with tapping into their memories and skill sets
  • Can also clone himself indefinitely, with each of these clones capable of Morphing at his normal capacity
  • Raynbo rifting - rank 1/5
  • Deyth rifting - rank 3/5
  • Virtually immortal and can recover from normally fatal injuries relatively quickly
    • This highly accelerated regeneration and resilience to injury comes at the cost of a reduced lifespan, which all Nanikans have compared to standard Ela
  • Extremely high pain tolerance
  • Highly agile, flexible, and has very quick reflexes
  • Capable of using swords well enough, but they're not his preferred weapon
  • Skilled with improvised weapons and is generally adaptable to most situations

Strengths

  • Cunning, confident, and opportunistic
  • Ruthless, persistent, and resilient
  • Charismatic, relentless, and dauntless
  • Resourceful, clever, and always thinking ahead

Weaknesses

  • He is technically a separate personality of Neoka's, so he is bound to Neoka's body and choices if he is not in control
  • Aggressive, malicious, and sadistic
  • Suspicious, does not trust others, and assumes the worst out of everyone
  • Extremely touchy about being perceived as his own person, and he lashes out at Neoka for being "weak" even though he ultimately acts to protect them both

Backstory

As the descendant of Nanikai, Neoka was destined to become the Morpher and join the league of Lord Dalia's Court. However, followers of the false goddess of death, Shana, corrupted him with their goddess's power of death during his childhood. The corruption did not seem take effect until much later and lay dormant within him for years. At some point during his childhood, Neoka ran away from home, although he was unaware of his actions during this time. The corruption within him subtly compelled him to leave home and seek out Shana to serve her, but Neoka had no idea how to find her or where to go. He only felt the pull to go to her, wherever she might be. At the time, Shana had not yet been resurrected, so Neoka wandered aimlessly and mostly unconscious of his actions. In the present day he wouldn't be able to give a clear answer why or how he eventually found his way to Emdrica, for he has few memories of his time wandering.

During this harrowing time of fending for himself in the Eternity and through Daliarivon, helplessly following the call of a dark entity he couldn't understand, Neoka apparently formed an alter ego of sorts to cope with his loneliness, fear, and the perils he faced. Neoka has probably blotted out most of these experiences due to trauma, and many other perils were instead faced by this alter ego, who took to referring to himself as Pain. Pain credits himself with their survival and their eventual arrival at the safety of Emdrica, and he also worked to suppress Shana's corruption within Neoka to prevent him from mindlessly following its call. Neoka was then taken in by Sir De Jack Zilvas, and Pain went dormant, having absorbed the corruption and no longer needing to protect Neoka.

Years later, though, during Neoka's teen years, Shana was resurrected. The corruption within him awoke, and Pain was unable to resist the compulsion to seek out Shana and carry out her will. Pain gradually overcame Neoka and gained control, serving Shana during the War and committing countless atrocities. Pain saw it as sparing Neoka from more horrors, since Neoka was not conscious of his actions while Pain was in control. The two struggled for control through the conclusion of the War, and it seems as though Neoka has regained his senses and is attempting to atone for his crimes. Pain, however, is not interested in returning to dormancy though.

Trivia:

  • Pain met Syke before Neoka while wandering Daliarivon and seeking souls for Shana to consume. Pain introduced himself as Neoka just because it was easier, and Syke was always under the impression that Neoka and Pain were not separate entities. Syke encountered Pain several times during the War, and he only met Neoka a couple of times during this period. Neoka didn’t remember meeting Syke, but he figured it was just a memory problem and just played along whenever Syke was familiar with him. After the War, Neoka spent much more time with Syke since Pain went dormant.
    • Eventually Syke does learn there is a distinction between Neoka and Pain, and he recognizes that the person he met in Daliarivon was Pain. Syke states that he loves both of them though. Pain thinks it’s a pretty saccharine sentiment to have, but he knows that Syke isn’t patronizing him.
  • Whereas Neoka has a close platonic relationship with Idramae and jokingly considers him as a pseudo-mother figure, Pain is a little more intimate with Idramae and tends to flirt with him. Pain and Idramae met each other when they were both forced into becoming Shana’s Death Rifters, and Pain spent more time with Idramae than Neoka did. Neoka treats Idramae affectionately and more like a relative, since they technically share very distant ancestors of Nanikai and Amradelta (although the related-ness between them is separated by over 40 trillion years, so it’s verrrrrrrry distant). Pain treats Idramae as a peer and considers him something of a love interest. He doesn’t seem to care that Idramae is quite a bit older than him.
    • "If Idramae is your mom, then you better start calling me daddy." "NO."
