Physical Appearance
Balthazar has the typical appearance of a standard Trapinch, although he is a little on the small side despite being fully grown.
Personality
Balthazar is a fussy and somewhat timid little Trapinch that tends to worry about his much bolder team members. He tends to take things slowly if possible and doesn't like being alone or vulnerable, so he tends to linger closely to his team members or trainer. Unfortunately his team mates tend to get themselves into confrontations or trouble rather frequently, so Balthazar is commonly seen trying to talk them out of things in a flustered manner. He lumbers slowly after his allies and tries his best to support them when he can, but he tends to feel inadequate and not terribly impressive compared to them. Still, he feels very loved by his trainer despite this, and Red never complains about any of his Pokemon. Balthazar always puts his best efforts forward even if he's often forced out of his comfort zone, and he hopes that things will calm down so everyone can settle and just enjoy the sunshine.

Backstory
Balthazar was a rather skittish little Trapinch who got picked up by a trainer after he stepped into his sand trap (and probably got his foot crunched by that chompy mouth). His trainer happened to be Red's dad, and he gave the Trapinch to Red to train. Although small compared to other Trapinches and rather timid, Red trained Balthazar regardless, and Balthazar follows his trainer devotedly to this day. He's not always sure he's capable of impressing his trainer compared to his other team mates, but he always tries his best anyway.
Trivia:
- All of Red's Pokemon except for Kit are named after characters from Romeo and Juliet. Red's Wigglytuff was named after the character Balthasar with a slight spelling modification. In a parody version of the play featuring my Pokemon characters (titled "Row Me Over to Juliet"), Red plays as Romeo, and Balthazar is still a member of his family/side of the conflict. He follows Rosaline around in a flustered manner while trying to also keep Red out of trouble.
- Balthazar was picked later to fill out Red's team of six, and I just picked a Trapinch as something cute on the team while also fitting the desert setting.
- In "Row Me Over to Juliet," Red's dad is on crutches due to a broken leg/foot/ankle or something to that effect in reference to a line where Lady Montague tells Lord Montague to get a crutch instead of a sword because he's too old for this conflict. This played into the canon way of how Red's dad found the Trapinch by stepping into its sand trap. So, Balthazar probably broke Red's dad's foot with that chompy mouth of his.
- Balthazar is not interested in evolving, so he's a pretty high leveled Trapinch.
