Profile

A frail girl with a lot of health problems related to repeated abuse. She only realized she had alters around the end of high school, whereas before she had just had a weak grasp on her disjointed identity.

Symphony's main hobbies include maintaining her excess amount of hair, journaling, photography, flower pressing, sleeping, and watching videos of dance (especially ballet). She also goes on errands with her mother, pretends to be nuerotypical, and nurses headaches.

Backstory:
Symphony has been experiencing abuse from her family since she was little. She spent much of her childhood heavily dissociating, and was very sickly and mentally unstable. She has been in and out of hospitals since her tweenage years, but managed to graduate highschool despite her health issues. Throughout this time she went through many dramatic shifts in her identity, has dealt with varying stages of amnesia, and has struggled to understand who she is.

  • N was around for most of elementary and high school, K was around for middle school and intermittently at home, Symphony was around for almost all home life and hospital visits.

Ongoing Story:
While applying for college Symphony was able to fill out the paperwork on her own, without N's influence. She put down her intended major as Family Social Science, always hoping to help families like her own. But N, her primary alter, wants to go into elementary education, and became confused and conflicted when discussing classes with her counselor.... Symphony now fears her selfishness might cost her the little stability she had as N begins to suspect things and question the gaps in her memory.

When N starts investigating their life she finds K's blog in their internet history. Then everything goes to hell.

Narrative Arc:
Symphony's arc within Did I Dissociate deals a lot with diagnosis as a strengthening of control. Being mostly aware of her DID since childhood, further understanding and embracing her DID is what grants the freedom to have a happier, more fulfilling life.
Connection is both a loss and gain of control. (Meeting Zyariana is a step up, being able to make friends independently...K's blog and the connections made through that is a loss of control that invite chaos (both positive, like ER's financial donation, and negative, like getting involved in Dedrick's drama).

 System Specifics

  • Low inner communication, varying levels of denial, generally self-sabotaging.
  • Lots of memory gaps and repression. (However, journaling has been heavily utilized by Symphony and K)
  • Small but chaotic system.
  • Generally masks well as one person, no desire to change this.
  • Lacking a lot of skills, despite having had therapy and outpatient programs since childhood.
    • On disability (SSDI), but it goes directly to her parents due to her being mentally unwell. Not formally diagnosed with DID.

N:

K:

Unlisted:
A violent persecutor (big source of Symphony's stress, frequently saying cruel violent things and but is far more likely to hurt their body than anyone else), an alter who is less personality and more empty, trance-like void state, parts that have come and gone (especially during middle school), probably others. They have not done much internal system work and their full roster is not currently known.

Theirs Profile
Age: 21
Major: Family & Social Science (junior undergrad)
She has a lot of mental illnesses, but hides them well in front of others. In fact, most people that know her describe Symphony as a very happy and positive person. While kind and gentle, she is growing more tired and meek, and has been considering dropping out this year. Her strength as well as her facade are waning; she is in the beginning stages of giving up.
Watching ballet makes her cry, every time. She is a true believer that it is the most beautiful thing in the entire universe and, if she had more energy, she would definitely be dancing.
