Wes is a cheerful swordsman with big plans to help his Guild win a war and become one of its renowned central heroes. He's a social butterfly with a desire to resolve conflict like no one had ever seen before, and despite his own ambitious goals he still yearns for his friends to find the peace and safety they deserve in their life.

He gladly took the job to support his siblings back at home and had the plans to become the hero who thwarted the dragons and once and for all drove them out of demon lands. He's an idealist who likes to dream big, maybe a little too far above his own possibilities.

Despite noble goals, he's still knee deep in prejudices and has a harder time seeing the larger picture. He can exhibit a dislike or even hatred for people based on nothing but stereotypes and the idea that people won't change. Good will always be good and forgiven, and evil always evil and defeated.

Body

Wes is a tall and buff man, standing 179cm or 5'10 tall and weighing around 90kg or 198lbs. His skin colour is a medium dull light orange in colour and is rather clear and smooth. His weight comes from a healthy mix of fat and muscle, mostly gained through daily exercise and his body's natural build. His entire body's covered in body hair and he doesn't try to hide it or get rid of it, going against the social norms of Kestane.

Face

He has a large face with very defined brows, a medium sized nose with a thick tip, and a broad chin with a goatee. His eyes are dark brown in colour and hooded. Under his eyes he has visible bags.

Hair

He has neck-long brown hair that is dreaded and collected with a black hairband. He puts a lot of time in taking care of his hair to make sure it dreads properly and it doesn't get dirty in the process.

Clothes

For clothes, he either wears his Guild uniform, or a pair of dark blue-greyish pants with a deep red shirt and a pair of brown boots. The sleeves of the shirt are usually rolled up to his elbows.

Wardrobe

Wes is built to last against the cold and doesn't need too dense clothing to keep up with the temperature. Most of the time, you'll find him without his sweater or with his sleeves folded up. Only when it gets below freezing does he wear his long sleeves and may he add an additional coat on top of his regular attire.

Personality

Wes is an outgoing and friendly person, always surrounding himself with likeminded people and trying to expand his social circles as far as he possibly could. He makes a conscious effort to be friendly even to the people he doesn't get along with and has the tendency to be a peacemaker even when the odds are against him. He's diplomatic in nature and feels like it's his duty to put a stop to conflicts, sometimes to the point where he's getting into other people's business.

He's very forgiving and a bit gullible in that aspect; he's too quick to forgive people who did genuinely bad things in favour of keeping the peace between them. If good is always good, then it's always deserving of forgiveness. He doesn't favour tense and formal ambience and does a lot to keep the mood as casual as possible, which also results in him looking past offences. It's hard to get him angry, even when people wrong him really badly he's far more disappointed and sorry than he is angry or vengeful.

He feels a purpose to become grand and to actively change the course of history, and even despite his forgiving attitude still believes in inherent evil that needs to be conquered. Evil and good are separate entities that get different standards assigned to them; there's no way for evil to become good but in some limited cases good can become evil. To him, combat against the enemy is a noble deed of protecting loved ones and a necessity in life, which forms a conviction so strong he wanted to become a successful soldier someday. It's not a form of revenge for what happened in his people's history, just the natural order according to his understanding of it.

  • Good at swordfighting, both with shortswords and a longsword
  • Good at socialising and making allies/friends

Relationships

A2.png

A ✦ Best friend

Wes met A in the first year of his Guild navy training when his and A's friend groups had a mutual friend and majority of the two groups merged halfway through the year. He managed to convince A to follow their group to the mainland for a transfer and has felt the strain over the regret of that decision.

After meeting Garry, A joined Wes in the new small group that ripped away and the two grew closer to each other than they had before now that they were less part of a huge group and became far closer. Wes feels that A no longer blames him for the transfer and now experiences the friendship as flourishing.

Garry2.png

Garry Shilling ✦ Best friend

Garry started out as a friend Wes made when entering a class separated from his large friend group, and Wes naturally gravitated to him as he seemed to have no friends. As Garry's first real friend, the man clung to Wes and slowly pulled him away from his friend group, afraid of the impersonality of it all. Wes didn't disagree with the idea to try out much closer one on one friendships and chose to focus more on this friendship than on his giant friend group.

Wes has sensed some frustrations coming from Garry as he disagrees with his decision to leave him behind for the war in the south. He assured him nothing about their friendship would change and that A would still be around to be there for him, but it's undeniable there are tensions now that Wes is off to war again.

Juna ✦ Older sister

Juna is Wes' older sister and together with her, he's been in charge of taking care of their large family after the untimely death of their mother in a construction-related accident.

Wes is very close to her and because together, they took care of their younger siblings, feels a very strong bond to her. He took up the job at the Guild to take care of his family, but very much so to also channel a good number of money into his family and prevent her from having to take up dangerous jobs like their mother had.

Home Life

Wes was born in the late winter of "781. as the second child to his parents. While his parents were fairly well off at the time, his birthing circumstances weren't the best due to a dispute the two had at the time which was resolved shortly after his birth. His parents often fought but didn't lay a finger on Wes and his older sister. The situation at home was always tense and even though they had never been assaulted, the kids both feared that one day they would be attacked as their mother wouldn't be able to stop their father should he lash out at them.

Over the course of his childhood he got three more siblings; a brother and two sisters. By age nine, his father finally had enough of all the disputing and left the family behind, this time not to return like he did the other times he promised he'd be gone forever. It changed a lot about the atmosphere that only their loving mother remained, but her work alone wasn't sufficient to take care of five children. Wes and two of his siblings had to find work too.

From that young age his feeling of responsibility for his family grew. Together with his older sister and his mother, he provided the most income for the family, but thanks to his physical build when he grew older he could take on more tasking jobs and earn more money. His older sister grew more nurturing towards her younger siblings when their mother couldn't be around to do it for them.

In "799., his mother died when she was crushed by a beam in a construction project she was working at. While stricken with grief, Wes and his sister immediately took over the family as they had built up enough experience to go on without their mother. Still, when it came to money they took a huge blow and everyone had to contribute to ensure they'd again earn enough to stock up for the oncoming winter.

When Guild soldiers came into the town with the offer to provide a fair wage to the family of every able bodied young adult or teen who offered his or her life indefinitely, Wes left his family with the promise of staying there as long as his family needed it. His sister agreed with him leaving the family to go fight as they both knew that for their siblings, this was the safest solution. Wes didn't mind moving far away and joining the military for many years; he saw it both as an opportunity to grow as a person and a great way for him to support his family.

Kestane's Guild

He left his town the next month with the promise to keep regular contact with his family. He travelled overseas with an entire group of newly recruited soldiers and went up north, to Kestane. He was sent to the navy, where he would complete his training. Though he was at a point of no return, during his introduction it was still made clear that while their unquestionable loyalty was in part counted as a repayment for the money their families were sent, part of their pay would still be cut for that exact same purpose and to cover their training costs, leaving not too much left to spend on themselves. It didn't make any issues for Wes as all of their basic needs were covered anyway.
