What would you do for your heterosexual life partner? Implant a forest spirit into your soul in a longshot attempt to ameliorate the symptoms of a lethal curse he's gotten himself afflicted with? Yeah, that seems like a good idea and in no way a martyristic overreaction.
Heron's taken something into himself. Ancient forest thing with a lot of names. Green Man. Leszy. Big Leafy Bastard. Much like the Lorax, he speaks for the trees. Unlike the lorax he's not just gonna sit there and be a little bitch about it: nature's back, and he's fucking pissed as hell!!!
Heron's physical and magical powers will increase in unpredictable ways. Forest creatures flock to him like he's Snow White. Wood that's dead and cured remembers what it once was under his touch. His body is changing, sprouting leaves, antlers, scales. And his mind is gradually being engulfed by The Forest's will, as a moss-eaten skeleton slowly crumbles back into the earth.
Xaanik is the one who originally granted and now currently oversees Heron's new condition, producing countermagic to keep The Forest at bay, to stop him from losing himself completely. He will be of little help to his friend if he's a nonhuman entity which only cares about protecting the woods. The transformation cannot be stopped, only slowed. Heron may retain shreds of himself for decades, years, months. It is hard to say exactly, or to draw any definitive lines.
It doesn't matter. Heron's pretty sure this is what he's always wanted anyway.
Powers he has no real control of so far but will eventually:
- Shapeshifting
- Voice/Sound Mimicry
- Command of plants and animals (humans included...), and the life and death thereof.
