Azrael was born in a laboratory of a military research facility as part of a project to build the perfect superhuman soldier. He was trained since young in all forms of combat, and studied military strategy extensively. The clones in the laboratory were not treated kindly. Clones who did not perform up to standard would be eliminated and have their organs harvested, if the harsh training did not kill them already. Azrael was among the few in his "nursery" group to survive.

Not only did he survive, but he excelled in all the tests he was put through. Soon enough, he was selected to be part of a special Garrison tasked to fight in the ongoing war between humanity and two other alien races. And Azrael's performance prompted the military officials to appoint him as the commander of the Garrison.

At the age of 17, Azrael led the Garrison to a decisive victory against the Sercaprian fleet, turning the tide of the war in the humans' favor. However, it was at this point that Azrael realized he wanted to be more than just a tool for the humans to win their war. Encouraged by a fellow clone, Bethel, he started to plot an escape for them.

On a fateful day, he finally managed to break out of the facility with the other clones from his garrison. In the process of their escape, they destroyed the space station the facility was located on, killing the numerous scientists and military officials posted on the base. The clone project, or Project GENEsis as it was called, was thus terminated and kept under the highest confidentiality. Yet, the clones remained as fugitives, scattered across the galaxy.

Years later, Azrael was recaptured. In exchange for being allowed to live, he is forced to join the military police force to help combat the rampant crime on Adelphus, the home planet of the humans.

He was assigned to a commander by the name of Waltev Wison. Wison did not trust him and took sadistic pleasure in torturing Azrael to break his will. Azrael was treated like a slave, and subjected to all kinds of abuse.

However, in an abrupt turn of events, Wison was revealed to be a traitor that sold military secrets to the Sercapria. Wison made a quick escape, and was never captured.

Azrael was thus reassigned to the newly instated commander, Joseph Verill.

Commander Verill, or José, as he preferred to be called, was far kinder to Azrael than anyone else was. Despite Azrael's initial reservations, José offered him a position on a Special Ops squad he was planning to form.

After a brief training period as a new recruit, Azrael assumed his new job. The first task José and him set out to do was to capture Waltev Wison. However, the deed was not so easily done.

The Special Ops team was more successful in taking down several criminal empires on Adelphus. Rumours about the military's new deadly superhuman soldier began to spread.

Azrael moved into José's penthouse apartment when José found out that he was being shunned by the other soldiers. Eventually, he started to develop feelings for José, and to his surprise, his feelings were gladly reciprocated.
