Solaris

Solaris has somewhat of an unknown past, all that is known is that he had watched the birth of ‘the universe’ and survived the Barren Plague, becoming Elder after the previous one had died. What most don’t know is that he had had a wife and child whom he loved more than life itself. The Plague that came from the new world had taken their lives alongside nearly everyone he could call family or friend. Broken past the point of anguish, only the desperation and hopelessness of the remaining angels were enough to force him to take charge, needing to stay strong for them.

There is a shroud of uncertainty following the events of the Plague and the discovery of humans. At some point in time, Abraxas, leader of the demons, had announced his intention to eradicate the species, blaming them for the Plague’s creation. Solaris defended them, saying it could not have been their fault. A battle ensued from the Devil’s hatred, one with enough power let off to tear into the fabric of reality itself, the Boundary. They eventually were brought to reason by their own people, leading them to call a truce in favour of not killing more in the crossfire.

Solaris had secretly been devastated after this, the fractures in his only friendship left had deepened after that fight, even if he understood the pain behind it. Barely a few months would pass before those fractures shattered completely: the day Abraxas attacked the Overworld without warning or reason. With hundreds dying by the minute, Solaris had no choice but to protect his realm and fight back in a way that resulted in both sides being at war with each other for many years. Each day he felt such rage, guilt, and pain that this had happened, each day he felt his soul wavering under his angels’ deaths. With time however, both sides had suffered so much, and the dimensional stability was wavering again, bringing the fighting to an end.

With further years needed to recover and rebuild again, the two dimensions were truly cut from one another, seemingly permanently. All the understanding and empathy he had felt for the Devil had been replaced with a numb hatred, eating away at him as they ended up secluded from each other for good reason. Many, many years pass, and new generations of angels and demons grew to hate one another as well. Solaris had been made aware of experiments the Devil had been performing on humans after a while, further deepening his distaste.

A few hundred years later, while Solaris had been completing paperwork, Abraxas appeared in the Overworld again, randomly. With a cold sense of dread Solaris immediately appeared there, noting that the Devil was acting strangely before being attacked. It had barely lasted a minute, he apportated them back into the Underworld to keep casualties down only to be surprised that a human of all things was there. She ran to the Devil’s side and admonished him for the attack….he calmed and didn’t move further. Solaris, in complete shock to see the monster his once-friend had become was actually listening to a human, left with a final warning not to return. He could not believe his eyes, rethinking about the moment over for many days. Why had he attacked in the first place, and why was that human there? He would have to push aside his reservations and investigate at once.
