About

Coryn was a young man living in the modern world as the second eldest of five children. His sisters were starting to get into Genshin Impact, and joked that Coryn would be a good match with Kaeya. He admittedly thought Kaeya had a nice design, but ultimately shrugged off his sisters' joking suggestions. When he went to bed that night, he found himself in a strange dream, before waking up in Mondstadt...

...specifically to the sight of Kaeya's face. Oops.

He was told about where he was found, within a block of ice inside of a ruin hinting at the existence of a Forgotten God known as Corynacht, but records surrounding the topic are few. Yes, even in the Knights of Favonius's library.

Kaeya, being the one to help Coryn out of the ice he'd been found in, offered to travel with Coryn in order to find the answers to this strange mystery, and so, the two would begin only one of several journeys together.

Character

When opening his mouth, Coryn seems like a complete asshole with his graceless speech, his lack of filter, and his sarcasm. Despite this, he really does care about people, and will begrudgingly admit that while he might think some people are assholes, he doesn't want them to die. With certain people, he will respect them more than others, giving politeness when needed, so it's not like his mouth is going to lead to anything truly stupid...right?

What most people underestimate about him is the fact that he is actually very intelligent, being able to come to conclusions about certain topics rather quickly, and can actually be rather eloquent when he wants to be. His abrasiveness stems from times when his family refused to take him seriously, and decided from his teens to wear a mask of such. Being an asshole, to him, is easier than letting his true self be known and thus being hurt.

Additionally, while he is hot-tempered, he can also be especially passionate, especially while infodumping about his interests or things he remembers that may be relevant to a conversation. It's this passion that helps to fuel stories that he tells at night, sometimes to entertain the pair while they travel.

His internalized homophobia makes it hard for him to warm up to relationships with other men at first, even with being with Kaeya all the time. Admittedly, it's less that he's against men having relations with other men, but more that he struggles with the idea of himself with other men. During his time with Kaeya, he begins to warm up to the possibility of himself being in love with his traveling partner.

Story

Mondstadt

Coryn was found with strange, dark-colored clothing, some of which was shown to him as he was getting his bearings on the situation, and some of which he was already wearing. The colors and patterns weren't exactly fitting of any of the known civilizations in Teyvat, since nobody could tell where a person even came from with those. Jean graciously helped Coryn select clothing that gave him more of an image of Mondstadt, and he was given errands soon after.

Kaeya, as the one who'd found him and brought him out of the ice, volunteered to be the one to travel with Coryn. This especially helped as Coryn soon learned that, while he had a catalyst, he didn't yet have "magic" with which to use with it. It wasn't until the duo reached a Statue of the Seven that Coryn realized what he could do.

That is, he resonated with the Statue of the Seven, unlocking his constellation and the ability to use Anemo.

When returning to Mondstadt, the two came across Venti, who was in the area with the inevitability of Windblume coming soon. It was Venti who gave Coryn more information about the Traveler; a girl in search for something lost, who also had the ability to resonate with Statues of the Seven in order to obtain their element.

With a clearer path, Coryn resolved to find the Traveler and get some answers. Kaeya, who had been by Coryn's side, volunteered to join him. "We'd certainly make a good duo, wouldn't we?"

Lantern Rite

When the pair arrived in Liyue, the Lantern Rite Festival was being set up, and Coryn worked to help prepare the festival as much as possible. Sure, there was always the occasional request he would balk at, but he nonetheless helped out with them despite his initial reservations.

And yet...there was something exhilarating about not just participating in the Lantern Rite Festival, but also helping out with it. Back in his own world, he would've only seen such a grand event from a screen. Now, in Teyvat? He was living admist such fantastical traditions. He didn't even notice that he'd given Kaeya a look at a more vulnerable side of himself.

It would be during this time that he would first meet the Traveler, Lumine, as well as Zhongli. While Lumine didn't have very many answers, Zhongli's existence as "Rex Lapis, but now a man" was enough to leave further breadcrumbs.

During the Lantern Rite, Coryn's wish was that he would learn more about Corynacht, and get some answers.

Kaeya's wish? To get to know the "true" Coryn...not that Coryn would learn about that wish until much later.

Windblume

The Windblume Festival was soon in swing, with Kaeya wanting to return to his home in order to "sort out some business". Of course, Coryn didn't know what that meant, before the realities of the festival became clear. Jean and Lisa would be much busier, yes, but there was also something about a deal with Venti. Something something love poems.

Deciding to take the chance and see if he could sort out his feelings for Kaeya, Coryn spoke with Venti privately, asking for lessons as well. Venti, curious about Coryn's progress and creativity, decided to take him on under Kaeya's "tab".

As the first student to get his "homework" "graded", Venti imparted some advice to Coryn, telling him that he had potential, but not to stress too much over fitting his feelings to form. "Still, in another life, you’d probably have been a pretty good bard, unless you want to consider a career path after all this ‘Corynacht’ business is over...?"

With that encouragement in mind, Coryn confessed his affectionate feelings to Kaeya on a starry night as the festivities were in swing. While he admitted that he had to take it slow in some ways, Kaeya reassured him that the pace would be Coryn's to set, and Kaeya would follow suit.

Back on the Road

After the Windblume Festival, the two men began to head back to Liyue, ready to resume their journey for answers.

They would soon be joined by Xiao, the only remaining yaksha within Liyue. However, there was also someone else with him: another Earthling. Introducing herself as Alex, it turned out that she'd woken up in Liyue to be found by Xiao, and the yaksha wasn't exactly impressed with this Earthling business going on. So, his first thought was to just give Alex to the Knights of Favonius and let them deal with her.

Instead, Coryn convinced the two to join up and they could seek answers. Perhaps they could find how Coryn and Alex are tied into this "Corynacht" thing.

The group would cross Dragonspine and then head to Wangshu Inn, staying there for a couple of nights before finding that there was a hilichurl camp coming closer to the Inn. Deciding to take a look, the group made their way over to the camp, where they found themselves routed into seeing the lawachurl known as Raivo, his adoptive human daughter Nemesis, and the Pyro Abyss Mage Yuda. What's more, they claimed that Kaeya was the prince of Khaenri'ah; while Kaeya denied this, the group still went and helped Nemesis clear out a group of Fatui and returned for the rewards, and it was clear that the Lawachurl's clan would keep such a claim under wraps.

Upon returning, they would find a letter from a "Johanna Hasenkamp", asking to see Coryn...and Kaeya.

The Scholar of Liyue

While Coryn could understand his own presence being mentioned, the fact that Kaeya was mentioned as well worried him. Nonetheless, the party went to see the Scholar, only to meet Zhongli at the door.

Zhongli explained that this was a matter concerning Rex Lapis, but that he was bound under a contract preventing him from speaking further on the topic. However, Johanna was not bound by such a contract, and could even speak freely about the answers Coryn was seeking.

What followed was several revelations -- namely, that Raivo had been right about Kaeya being Khaenri'ah's prince, on top of the fact that Johanna Hasenkamp was Corynacht's daughter. The latter knew of the former thanks to keeping track of family trees and tracing downward, and was also keenly aware of Corynacht's connections with Khaenri'ah as well.

When attempting to gauge if Coryn was lying about his denial of being Corynacht reborn, Kaeya stepped forward to vouch for him, considering that Coryn was nothing but honest to him. Zhongli would interfere before things crossed any lines, having the two make a contract to prevent them harming each other until everything was said and done.

As for what's next...yeah there's campaign stuff to go thru lmao

Trivia

  • His constellation is Inversum Telescopium, the Inverted Telescope. His fate is tied to the past, most specifically a past he does not know and a legacy that is not his, but attributed to him by name.
  • Autistic, and was suspecting he had ADHD before he was thrown into Teyvat.
  • The shortest out of the three boys in his family, even his little brother shot past him once he had his growth spurt.
  • Sun / Moon / Rising: Aries / Capricorn / Leo.
  • When he was younger, he worked in a library on his world, resulting in the ability to access all sorts of knowledge at his convenience. A lot of this knowledge only becomes relevant when he has to tell stories, unfortunately.
  • Coryn has some talent in singing and vocal mimicry, although he's not going to be a pop star or imitating Hilichurls any time soon.
  • For trivia more directly relating to Teyvat, there's a tab for that.

Relationships

All items below are based on headcanons and roleplay.

Certain details may be changed as roleplay happens, or MiHoYo releases more events and story beats.

Kaeya Alberich

While on Earth, Coryn's first thought upon seeing Kaeya in the game was simply that he was a handsome man, before telling himself that he couldn't very well say those sorts of things too often for fear that his family would resent him for even the perceived attraction to the same gender.

Upon first waking up in Teyvat, though, he was more than a little shocked that his first sight was Kaeya's face. Even so, there was something about the way the Cryo user insisted on helping Coryn with the mysteries surrounding him that felt earnest, and so, Coryn allowed Kaeya to become his traveling partner; unlike Lumine, he didn't have anyone knowledgeable about Teyvat or its cultures.

While their initial departure from Mondstadt teetered the line between awkward and acceptable, especially with Coryn noticing Kaeya flirting with him (or misinterpreting things Kaeya did as flirting), there was still a sense of trust that anyone could see between the two. Coryn would seek Kaeya's input on a lot of matters relating to Teyvat, and would always speak with him sincerely when it came to questions about his own world.

It would take time for a romantic relationship to blossom between the two, but even before that, Coryn wouldn't have changed Kaeya's presence in his journey at all...despite both of their attitudes sometimes.

Eventually, this would blossom into something more.

Venti

Venti was the one who informed Coryn about the existence of the Traveler, as well as some other items of note that could help Coryn go home. While Venti doesn't know a lot about Corynacht, there's still enough for Coryn to start picking up the pieces of the mystery that he's caught in the middle of.

Additionally, the knowledge of Barbatos has at least pointed to where someone with more answers would lie: the Tsaritsa would likely know the true reason why Corynacht was frozen until the end of days.

During the Windblume Festival, Coryn took Venti aside privately and asked for lessons as well, offering to "do or give" anything in exchange for Venti's expertise. Venti, deciding to play on Coryn's feelings for Kaeya, decided to lump Coryn's "payment" with the three bottles of wine that Kaeya would already be getting for him.

"I certainly didn't think you were ready to take the dive into Windblume's traditions so suddenly, but if you're serious about learning...well, we can say that one of the bottles that Kaeya is getting is your payment. I did ask for three, after all!"

The bard had already suspected that Coryn was more than a standoffish sort, and was pleasantly surprised when there was a budding romantic under the surface. While Coryn was certainly no bard himself, Venti enjoyed seeing Coryn ease into addressing his feelings in a more open manner.

Lumine, the Traveler

While initially hearing of Lumine in Mondstadt, he wouldn't actually meet her until he arrived in Liyue; prior to that point, he only ever knew her as "The Traveler", since everyone tended to call her that first. Even so, she was the first step of their journey for answers.

While Lumine didn't have any answers regarding Corynacht, she was knowledgeable of other worlds, searching for her brother after being separated from him. She would leave Liyue soon after the Lantern Rite Festival, although the two met again in during the Windblume Festival in Mondstadt. Even after they parted ways, though, Lumine still pulled a few strings here and there for Coryn to receive certain items, such as his own Serenitea Pot, knowing that he'd find good use for them.

Coryn thinks of her as a very kind person with a good head on her shoulders, but does worry about her being taken advantage of or being treated unfairly. Yes, she's the Honorary Knight at Mondstadt, yes, he'll still fret.

Alex

No actual profile here, but Alex is a friend of mine's OC who's very much in Coryn's continuity at this point. Here's the Picrew credit tho.

As the two men were leaving Mondstadt after the Windblume Festival, they would encounter Xiao "escorting" a young woman in the direction of Mondstadt. This would be the first "Earthling" that Coryn saw other than himself, known as Alex, and the two were quick to become as thick as thieves with their Earth knowledge.

While managing to convince Xiao to at least let Alex join them for answers, they would find the yaksha also joining them, making a little party of the former duo. While Xiao could be extremely tiring at the best of times, Coryn could tell that Alex had expected all of this to happen and was just in it for the ride. This would later result in a conversation where Alex revealed that she knew about Genshin Impact, and Xiao was actually one of her favorite characters.

During the journey to find answers about Corynacht, Coryn and Alex would find themselves bonding in a sibling-like manner, having their own inside jokes and trying to help the other out with anything they could.

Zhongli

While Zhongli is knowledgeable on both Liyue and the Traveler, Coryn initially found him to be an eccentric yet kindly man, who...also tended to forget the value of Mora far more often than not. Despite this, he found Zhongli to be of great help as he and Kaeya helped out during the Lantern Rite Festival, even if he supposedly didn't know anything about Corynacht.

...yeah, so, Zhongli knew about Corynacht. Let's start there.

Having met the man personally, Rex Lapis held a great deal of resentment for the so-called Miasmo "Archon", but the main priority was to ensure that Corynacht was put away. As a result, he worked directly with the previous Cryo Archon in order to get the man sealed. Afterwards, he and his adepti made a contract that stated that they couldn't speak of Corynacht's existence, aiming to erase the man.

He held a lot of skepticism toward the idea that Coryn was Corynacht reborn, and began to subtly gauge if he was. When Coryn expressed adoration for Liyue's culture and traditions, Zhongli would be able to confirm that this wasn't the case, and would even speak with Johanna afterwards in order to get to her first -- before any rumors could reach her ears before he did.

He would also interfere before Kaeya and Johanna started anything regarding how trustworthy Coryn was, and offered them to make a contract. As a result, Coryn is rather grateful to Zhongli as well, on top of everything else.

34702320_x1e.png

Johanna Hasenkamp

Upon heading back to Liyue after Windblume, he and Kaeya received a letter asking to speak with both of them, explicitly stating them both by name. This would be the first point of contact with the illustrious Scholar of Liyue, who was said to have been a presence in the country for a long time. Apparently, she had returned from Fontaine, and wished to see them both.

Of course, Coryn had expected himself to be mentioned, thanks to the fact that he was trying to gather information about Corynacht.

What he didn't expect was for Kaeya to also be specified.

It was here that Coryn learned of the fact that Kaeya was actually the prince of Khaenri'ah, who was said to have connections with Corynacht. How much Kaeya knew about this, Coryn didn't really care, instead reiterating that he trusted the other man, and that was that.

Kaeya took offense to Coryn being implied to be lying about not being Corynacht reborn, but before anything could happen, Zhongli stepped in. As a result, Kaeya and Johanna would form a contract that swore that both of them were telling the truth, and held that they wouldn't harm one another until all the Corynacht business was dealt with.

Additionally, Coryn also found himself sympathizing with Johanna, namely with regards to her own origins.

Over time, Coryn would see Johanna as an older sister figure within Teyvat, especially as the two began to learn that they weren't so different from each other at all. Between their similar appearances, familial issues, and (sighs) dating a Ragnvindr, they could've been siblings in another life.

that's what AUs are for, though

4549a48758f8932ead7185cc1db0ca2ffa91b877

Diluc Ragnvindr

While initially very unimpressed with Diluc's attitude towards himself and Kaeya, Coryn had to admit that it came from a place where tensions were high regarding just how he'd ended up in Teyvat. While certainly not friends for a long period of time, there were a number of understandings that both men had to have with each other.

After the Corynacht arc, Diluc would begin to teach Coryn how to improve himself at chess, allowing the two more of a chance to feel each other out without Kaeya or Johanna present. While the two may bicker still, it's much less of it being about their attitudes and more about other things.

c79e3c5cbbd06b1d4c1ef00e3cf2c1d684885e1d

Xiao

While not a big fan of Xiao upon their first meeting, Coryn would admit that the yaksha joining the eventual party alongside Alex was actually a good thing. As much as Alex was Teyvat-savvy, there was only so much that knowledge could do within a world as hostile as Teyvat, and that's where Xiao filled in the blanks.

Even so, when Xiao would begin to go to him for advice on Alex, Coryn is willing to put aside his differences and help out. This kindness, however, doesn't stop him from teaching Xiao things from Earth like "yeet". (sighs)

e6e71768971045edd6f6abd543a5efbdffb8ae30

Jean Gunnhildr

Before being sent to find answers to the mystery of Corynacht, Coryn had to admit that Jean was a strong and capable leader of the Knights of Favonius. It doesn't help that, despite her firm demeanor, she is still one to remain kind.

00e0f48334900340b638a17b0a2d06661dee69a1

Lisa Minci

He has a slight crush on her every time she opens her mouth, and he's found himself in the position of her personal library book gatherer a couple of times. He does tend to fluster whenever she acts coy to him, though.

dfd39cb0c895ed22b1e16bb7dd85b3f197b3e27c

Paimon

While Paimon is knowledgeable about certain aspects of Teyvat's cultures, he still found distaste in how bluntly she often spoke to people. He mostly tolerates her because Lumine does, somehow, but it won't stop him from getting a word or two in edgewise.

unknown.png

The Tsaritsa

Upon learning that certain events changed the Tsaritsa's personality many years ago, Coryn has a couple of theories as to why that is, some involving Corynacht himself. Of course, the end result of this knowledge really depends on which of his theories is correct, and which would be worse if so.

unknown.png

The Previous Cryo Archon

Why the archon before the Tsaritsa froze Corynacht on his request is beyond Coryn's knowledge, but he has a few theories.
