Layla Chirper
[also known as Layla, Lays]
gender: female [she/her]
age: 11 years old
birthdate: April 1st
place of residence: Maplebark Woods
occupation: student, Eggnog Elementary

status: alive

A foster kid who recently moved in [again], this time staying with the Oddwoods. A girl who’s always got her backpack with her, Layla can be a bit of a rough n’ tumble, and occasionally a bit blunt. You might also be able to tell she’s quite the outdoor enthusiast, someone who can be found collecting rocks and observing birds and bugs.

Layla is someone who comes off as sensible most of the time. A girl who follows her mind, she’s someone who thinks before believing and doing. You’d fine that she’s not easily fooled or swayed, and that she’s usually the one keeping her peers to their senses. Layla is also very practical! She’s very much resourceful and skilled, someone who seems to be prepared for almost anything. She’s a self-assured gal, who knows what she’s doing. It helps that she’s someone who’s often composed. Someone who appears to have a good control on her emotions, the girl is able to stay collected when problem arises. This is perhaps why many kids and even some adults have credited Layla as "mature", as she often seems to act like someone who’s "grown-up beyond her years".

However, she’s actually considered “difficult” by those familliar with her, from teaches to parents and social workers. Truth is, Layla is someone who’s awfully critical. She has a cynical view of things, often seeing the worst of it. Numb to almost anything at this point, it seems any terrible event that would happen won’t surprise her anymore. Layla can also be rebellious, often has no respect for rules or authorities. It’s not that she lacks the control to, but rather she outright refuses to listen when she wishes. She won’t let others to just tell her what to do, and that she would rather make her own decisions. Plus secretive and refuses to open up, most find it hard to cooperate with her. Some even say she’s not trying to make it easier. This is why many have considered Layla to be cold. Peers and grown-ups alike have found her unapproachable and hard to get along with. And you know what? Maybe she doesn't want to get along with people, She's independent, she thinks. She knows how to take care by herself. Heck, pretty sure she can live on her own if the system just let her go! She doesn't need friends or family or any help. Already faced enough disappointments, Layla’s sure she’d be better of without others, and that she couldn’t rely on anything but herself. If no one cared about her before, why should she be cared for now? Why should she get close to people that’ll just leave her again? Besides, while the kid couldn’t pin point it, there’s something about bonding with others that makes her more… "stressed out". Hence, why she tries to disregard others, trying to not get attached to anyone.

Still, there’s actually plenty of things people may not catch about Layla. For a start, she’s someone who’s quite curious, and won’t simply take an answer. Insightful, she'll explore details [especially the ones people usually miss], and she likes to think beyond what others typically see. She’s someone who always comes with her perspective on her own instead of just following what people tell her, which does come with a rather unique view of things compared to her surroundings. And even if Layla avoids connections, that doesn’t mean she’s cruel. In fact, she might not think it herself, but sometimes she does still care for others and their well being. Layla is someone who's surprisingly non-judgemetal when it comes to people's problems, especially if it’s her peers. A girl who’s willing to listen to other kids, she could even be understanding at times. Layla can actually be pretty wise, sometimes one to give unexpected, but genuine good advice. Layla’s a girl who won’t just let grown-ups underestimate her just because she’s a kid, and believes that every other child deserves to be heard as well. Her expressions doesn't show it well, but she's someone who can be encouraging to other kids, and eager to help them go through the storm. However still, at the end of the day, she keeps telling herself to not get “personal” to anyone at all. She’s still unable to let her guard down for others, which is why most of these seem buried.

 LITTLE NOTES:
  • Currently, she's fostered by Marcus [dad], and lives with Oliver, Max, and Lucas.
  • Carries her backpack like everywhere. It literally has everything from tools, school supplies and textbooks, water, snacks, instant noodles, and even some sets of clothes somehow. No one has any idea how Layla manage to fit her stuff, is like her backpack “works like the TARDIS” or something.
    • Yes, that backpack is so heavy that her back kinda hurts from carrying it everywhere, but Layla insists she need it all the time, especially if the system decides she’ll have to leave again!
  • Same goes for pockets. Uses cargo pants because she wants to put stuff in it.
  • Has a pocket knife, she knows how to use it and won’t hesitate to if she’s in physical danger.
  • “You’re as fun as a box of rocks.” “Rocks are fun you chowderhead-“A geology enthusiast! She into rocks, and has a collection [albeit a bit small], often inside her backpack or pockets.
  • Abosulutely loves mysteries! Whether it’s from books or movies, she loves being a lil’ detective and try to join solve the case while reading/watching as well.
    •  The girl also love riddles! Especially challenging ones :O
  • Biology is her favorite subject, she really loves nature in general! Learning about animals [bugs and birds are her fav] and plants are fun!
  • Plays card games! Layla even has her own french-suited deck :]
  • Actually enjoys window shopping in thrift stores. She’s into the vintage/retro stuff you can find, from gadgets to decor and more! Also the prices are cheap.
  • Fond of Roald Dahl books, but what resonates with her most would be Matilda. Okay she enjoys reading in general as long as they’re her favorite genre: literal children having to face problems when the adults are unreliable!
  • Can do some basic cooking, like instant noodles, many kinds of eggs, etc. Also her fav food is mushrooms! Loves all kinds.
  • Least likely to believe in... anything really. Urban legends, conspiracies and magic are dumb. “Even if Polybius sounds cool, I'm 98% sure it's non-existent.”
  • Doesn’t really support most charities or non-profit organizations. Call her cruel, but it’s not that she doesn’t want to help, but can you really trust those people? When she helps others, she would often do it directly herself.
  • Drawn to dark, abandoned, and lonely places, Layla is a curious fella who loves to explore those! Was also into liminal spaces before she even knew that's a word.
  • However hates horror movies. “Seriously they’re stupid. It’s mostly just someone placing a bunch of screaming and gore, which isn’t even scary, it’s just cheesy.”
    •  She would rather enjoy an analog horror! A good one, that is.
  • She plays soccer, in fact she was part of a team for some time! Until she had to move-
  • Listens to many genres of songs, mostly around the 1900th century! However has a distaste in modern pop-
    •  Terrible singer.
  • Self-taught herself how to use a computer really well, she made her own email account and basically signed in a bunch of free newsletters lol. Probably has a quora account despite being too young to have one [broke the rules]
  • Reads medical articles. For fun! Reason why she has this niche knowledge about this stuff.
  • Dislikes white lies [or lies in general, but hypocritically she does to hide secrets at times-], and would rather have people just directly say their honest opinion.
  • If you start playing her favorite video game on front of her, she’ll just stare at you play the entire time while secretly thinking “Dude can I play too- please I wanna play :(“ but too scared to ask. [Try to guess what it is >:)]
  • Secretly does people’s homework in exchange for money/snacks/anything “useful”. She’s also an expert at copying writing styles for this. Layla does this so she could “make a living for herself” but she knows she’s so screwed if others find out. Though it’s been harder for her to find new clients ever since she moved in-
  • And yes, anything “useful” includes pokemon trading cards. Because Layla is secretly a big fan of the game but she could never get enough cards to play it >:(
  • She may be angry to adults, but peers are a different issue…
  • Layla has been in foster care for... years? Well, she couldn't remember the time she wasn't in the system, that is...
  • Lucas and Max were adopted by the Oddwoods since they were infants, while Layla and Oliver came in recently from foster care. This is context to the different dynamics in the family.
  • European descent of some kind.
  • [VOICECLAIM] Matilda from the musical! [Naughty/Quite]
